i'm going to use this as a picture reference:

so i work at champs, and the location i work at is probably one of the busiest ones in canada. anyways, it's back to school, and shit is pretty hectic. i've been literally running about all day trying to help customers, etc. so i was pre tty stressed out. mind you, i've only been here for a month and today was the busiest as its ever been. moving on, it was the last 20 minutes of my 7 hour shift and i'm climbing the rungs (#1,2,3) of whatever-the-fuck-you-call-that-thing-that-holds-the-shoes. as you can see from the picture, there's only 3 rungs but at the place i work at there's eight. so imagine how high that is, and imagine it in relation with my picture. long story short, i was on the 7th rung and i was trying to grab a shoebox that was on the bottom pile of the eighth rung but all the boxes fell on me. i went crashing down on the pile of boxes (in addition to other ones that were on the ground already). my back and ankle are sore as shit right now, but in retrospect it was kinda fun. just wanted to share my story for the day, considering i never really post anything interesting (other than gay shit).

Man that must suck. Glad to hear ur ok at least, for a teabagging tyrant you need to be a bit more careful.

Shit, you could've potentially been in the hospital or dead. Good thing you're "ok." You might be at risk for long term damages, but hopefully that back and ankle will get better.

damn... i had a fall about like 15 feet while we were running to school and taking a shortcut over the bike storages areas, there were sections between the storages houses, and i miscaculated the length of one jump and landed right on my ass, and it knocked me out for about a couple seconds before I came to.

heal from your injuries man.

do they have worker's compensation in canada?

Thu Aug 24, 2006 10:47 am

Are you stupid? Don't you guys have ladders at your place? I've worked in the storeroom at Toys R Us getting things like fucking power wheels down from shelves and you do not want to lose your balance with that thing. You should really use a ladder next time because I know by experience that those things aren't excatly very sturdy.

wow ur lucky the boxes fell, if you landed on the ground, im afraid wed never hear you post again

we got ladders, but we (the manly men, me for example) don't use them because they take too much time. our boss actually encouraged to scale the damn things, no joke. when it comes to selling shoes, you need to be quick or you might lose a customer. so what we do is when we get their size, we run to the back and climb the thing with no ladder. it's different when we're putting things into the shelves -- that's when we use ladders; otherwise, we're spidermen. don't worry though muchachos, i will recover <3. my nuts are still in tact, which is good.

After I read the first three lines I thought it was gonna be a suicide attempt. :)

At Toys R Us it takes me about 10 seconds to get a ladder and to set it up. We have a few ladders in the back room for us and we have a lot of ladders in side rooms along the floor. I understand cutting corners because you are busy and shit because we all do that but standing on the shelves? You are asking for trouble. Those things aren't made to hold people.

I had a scary moment at work once.

I work at Future Shop and I had to bring down a computer, so we have those "rolling ladders" if you know what those are, chances are if you've ever been to a Future Shop you've seen one.

Anyways I climbed up and had to grab the computer from the very top of a stack that was pretty high, basically I started pulling it out and misjudged how heavy it would be so I let it slide down into my hands. Well the computer fell onto me and I managed to hold on but I was losing balance, so I was about to fall off the ladder when I just let the computer go and held on.

Luckily nothing happened to me and the computer.

I was in the store room at Toys R Us one day and my job was remove about 8 stacks of these fixtures that were stacked up next to each other about 12 feet up on a shelf in the corner of the room. I got on a ladder and I had to remove them all and then go downstairs and throw them into the dumpster. There were a lot of them but the worst part was that a lot of them were stuck to each other on the OTHER pile so when I would pick one up it would hook onto one on the other pile and all these huge fixtures would just crash onto me and onto the other piles. I thought that was the day I was going to die, honestly.
