I just don't see the White Sox being able to fend off both teams. I'm going to go with a homer pick and say the Minnesota Twins will win the wildcard with the Tigers, Athletics and Yankees there as the division winners. Sorry Sox (both Red and White) fans.
I want you to make sure you remember saying this.
The White Sox pitching is finally coming around, and now that it's crunch time we've begun our run. We beat the Yanks 2 out of 3, and we just handed the Tigers their ass with a complete game 3 hit shutout by Jose. Buerhle is looking better and better every start, look for him to come out and dominate today. I think we sweep the Tigers here, and boom, just like that the division is 5 1/2. If we don't sweep them this series, then the division is probably out of reach but I don't really care about that anyways.
The Twins don't worry me in the least bit. I'm not at all afraid of not making the playoffs and here's why. We played the worst baseball that the team could possibly play for the longest period of time possible. Now we've snapped out of that and we're only 7 1/2 back of the division and we lead the wild card by 1 1/2 games. The only team that worries me in a playoff series is the Yankees too. We've won 7 out of 10 against the Tigers, and we even played then during the stretch when nothing was working right. I think we would easily sweep the Tigers in a series, same with the Red Sox, just like last year. The Yanks are the only team that could give us trouble.
The White Sox WILL repeat as World Champs. Put it on the front page, back page, middle page...

OleEnglish, you'll be panicking after we're done with you guys in Cromerica next week...

Every team gets blasted a few times a season. I'll gladly lose 13-0 and still have the best record in the National League. Meanwhile, you're still not entirely sure you're going to make the playoffs.

Any team in the NL that's going to fight off the Mets from making it to the World Series at least will be a shocker.

I agree, I was just messing with you.
If the Mets don't make the world series, that would be a tragedy for them, but I could see the Dodgers being a big surprise.
If the Mets make the world series, the White Sox will have just as much fun sweeping them as we did the Astros last year.

I agree that the Dodgers could be an issue, as could St. Louis if they ever figure out what's making them stink lately (originally I didn't think their pitching would hold up, but they're being shut out...). And, the Mets are twice the team Houston was a year ago. Their lineup packs twice the punch, while their pitching isn't quite as up to par.

true. all good reasons to be optimistic about the Sox chances for the division and then eventually the World Series.
No panic here. Cool
based on what? Detroit has been a juggernaut this season but yet again they looked like a virgin on prom night in the Sox series. lol what's up with their leader, Ivan no more steroids Rodriguez, getting tossed out of the game? that's a bad sign when your leader can't keep his cool.
As Indy mentioned it is crunch time and Detroit has initially responded very poorly and Verlander has a tired arm (and the Sox own him) plus Rogers has historically been a poor 2nd half pitcher. Minnesota had a nice run but Liriano is on the DL (tired arm too).
5 1/2 games behind with a month and half to go and still some games to play against Minny and Detroits. The Wildcard or Division makes no difference to me, just as long as the Sox are playing their best baseball heading into the playoffs. this is a good start taking 2 of 3 from the Yanks and sweeping Detroit.

i dont get this baseball trade deadline thing..cuz teams are (blue jayz) are still trading after the deadline
Sat Aug 19, 2006 6:42 am
It was the non-waiver deadline or something like that. Basically, after that date, a player must go through waivers and all the teams must pass on him before he can be traded. Example; Eric Hinske must have gone through waivers without getting picked up, so the Blue Jays could and did trade him.
I think I read somewhere that there are many, many players who go through waivers just to see if there's any interest for them, and not just role players, but stars too.
Mon Aug 21, 2006 1:49 am
Yeah, a couple years ago(2004 I think) Manny Ramirez was put on waivers and noone picked him up.
Tue Aug 22, 2006 9:57 am
Big series for the Tigers and Sox. should be fun. if anyone's watching the game, have you ever really seen a pitcher take so little time in between pitches as Verlander?
Wed Aug 23, 2006 7:44 am
Jeez, any Red Sox fans here. You're pretty screwed after that so-called series. I don't think it should even be called a series, I like what the announcer called it: a massacre.

Yes, Mark Buehrle.

White Sox are getting owned by the Tigers! Guess what? The Twins plan on sweeping the White Sox (again) next series, too. Eat it, Indy!

The Metrodome is extremely ugly.
Who plays baseball inside? I hated it, I felt like I was in "The Truman Show."
In other news, the white sox suck.

I told you that before you went to the game. The good news is that our new stadium will arrive in 2010!
By the way, I agree with your last comment.

Yes, Mark Buehrle.
and Jarrod Washburn. i think when Buehrle & Washburn pitched against each other, the game lasted less then 2hrs
Sox "suck" but still remain in 1st in the wildcard and they plan to sweep (again) the twins next series
but 1st things first, the bats need to wake up and we need a good one from Sweaty Freddy/Big game Garcia
Thu Aug 24, 2006 9:43 am
Crede hit his 100th career homer. It seems like they are all against the Tigers. He owns us. He just flipped that ohe right out.
Sat Aug 26, 2006 12:04 am
Hey Indy and Air Gordon, I hope you guys enjoyed your wild card lead because it will be ours tonight. Twins will take 2/3 from the White Sox (if not a sweep) and take control of the race. After we beat the Sox we then face the Royals.
Things are looking up, fellas!

Twins win despite Radke's injury. Johan goes out tomorrow!

Never in doubt.

Can you tell me how the Twins are a joke? It's actually quite amazing that the team is still in the race with all the problems we have had (Radke's arm, Liriano's arm, Hunter's injury, Stewart out, Jones gone, Silva and Lohse sucking). Our rotation is crappy once you get past Johan Santana right now. Radke's arm is falling off, Boof and Garza are young and inconsistent and Silva just flat out sucks.
With all of that said...this team will still make the playoffs and be dangerous. Liriano threw 45 pitches yesterday and is going to try to make a comeback this season. The three game losing streak should come to an end tonight because Mr. Cytana is on the mound.

enough of these 'tragedies' lol. we are supposed to feel sorry for you now? bullshit
even though they are a division rival, i respect the Twins- they are a fundamentally sound team, have a great bullpen, and they don't crap in their pants when they play the big boys unlike Detroit
Detroit is finally struggling.. i think the division winner will come down to the Sox and the "joke" twins
if Scotty Pods could get his head out of his ass, it would be easier to overcome the uneven starting pitching
