Tue Jul 22, 2003 9:42 pm

i read that there are some hush hush additions to nba live, does anyone have any idea what they are? do you think they might have a dunk contest this year?

How would we know the secret additions. Nobody knows.

Chances are no dunk contest, but it seems everyone is hoping for one.

I'd want a Dunk Contest but it would be too complicated to implement. When you near the rim and press Shoot, it automatically does a random dunk. I don't see how we could have fun doing random dunks because the rating-scale might be a blowoff.

What I'm hoping for is the return of the 3 Point Contest.

I guess the dunk contest could work but by mystery combinations but it still would be hard to implement.

Why did EA take the 3point contest out in the first place?

Wat about the private jet they talked about to transport ur team to have them well rested for games could that be one of them?

a dunk contest hard to implement? have u guys never played nba in the zone with the dunk contest on psx? that was the best part of the game, the way u controled the dunk is bye how u move the joystick in the air, for instance i did a triple pump dunk bye pressed down up, down up, down up. it was awesome! then a long time ago they had jordan vs bird which had a dunk contest. it's not hard to do, it just takes time, and it would send them over the edge. Also this year, they must have the ability to double pump out of a shot like nba2k3 had, that was awesome!

Yeah thats here. But did NBA In the Zone have all of the Stuff as NBA Live? They'd have to use 2 cds.

 IDEA

I'll start it in a new post.

That's not really a secret feature, since they've already mentioned it.

Most of the features of Dynasty Mode are still unknown. I guess they might also bring back features such as the 3 Point Contest and Create-a-Team, but that's just speculation.

I really hope it is not a dunk contest... Don't take me the wrong way, but I think they should focus on other areas of the game.

Glitz and glamour is all fun for a while, but what really ties the player to the seat is the dynasty mode. I hope they work on it and work and work and work.

I propably have played like a handful of exhibition games after they introduced the multi-season mode back in the day.

As with the cheerleaders and 3pt shootouts, well the dunk contest would get old pretty fast. As with 3pts it would be a fun mode to play with your friends, but with single player mode, well it wouldn't be that much fun.

I hope the secret is something new and revolutionary...

I think most of the secrets will be related to Dynasty Mode. I think we've pretty much been told everything else about the game.

agreed. dunk contests have no replay value whatsoever. ea should focus on improving the dynasty mode imo.

I ogt ncaa football 2004 and its dynasty mode is excellent. They have a digital Sports Illustrated and after a good performance you can see if you got in. In the magazine is all of the awards and award watches. I think that could be a possibility for live 2k4.

nope it was only one cd...it had a dunk contest, threepoint contest, create a player etc... and the one area that i think was better than live was shooting... in the zone had momentum shooting meaning which ever direction you were goin, the player would jump in that direction while shooting without his body being perfectly straight at an awkward angle...i think live needs to fix that animation because their off balance shot and lean in shot looks so ugly..

Yea the leaner on live 2003 is pretty bad and an improvement in that would be nice and is definitely needed!!!

The dunk contest would have enough replay value, because whenever you have a lotta friends over they would want to play it. It might get bored if you are just sittin there doin it, but then it depends how complicated and fun it is. If they made it like street fighter, where you had to remember combos but still execute them perfectly, it might not be that bad.

You would have to have alot of hangtime but i can see it happineng. up could be say pump left could be windmill, right could control 1 or 2 hands and down could be between the legs. Then 4 other keys could be 360, reverse, tomohawk, and throw pass of backboard. Then you could get a 360 double pump between the legs dunk or somethin crazy like that. :P

The number of CDs has no bearing on the amount of features. More CDs means more art and audio, that wouldn't fit on just one CD.

A dunk contest would have replay value, and would be fun from time to time. But extras and mini-games can wait if it means improvement to the main game.

well, i guess the dunk contest would be a great addition as long as we're able to create our own dunk animations or something like that

There's two ways of implementing the dunk contest:

1. Have a wide selection of dunks to choose from. You would then control the player in attempting the selected dunk. Depending on their ratings and when you press the shoot button, they would make or miss the dunk. There would have to be a few variations of the dunks, some more impressive than others.

That could work, but would be pretty limited. Replay value would be limited, as you would soon master the timing and know which dunks will get the high scores.

2. Use combinations to string together a new animation. For example, you could put together a dunk where the player wrapped the ball behind his back during the steps and then performed a 180 or 360 before dunking - something that would take a bit of co-ordination. You could also control double pumping and other tricks that give the dunk more "oomph".

It would take a little more effort from both EA and us as gamers, but that would be a pretty fun side game when you have a few minutes to spare or have some friends over.

But the bottom line is that a dunk contest is not necessary, and the energy would be better spent perfecting the gameplay before adding extras.

I think they would put in the dunk contest just to appeal to more people so EA could get more sales. Alot of people are dumb enough to not give a crap about gameplay and get it just because it has a dunk contest.

I doubt it will be in this years game though.

In the Zone had a different dunk contest for 2000 and 2001 (cant really remember which years it was but im guessing)

the first way konami implimented the dunk contest was:

when it was your turn, they would flash a combination of buttons on the screen and then you would have to memorize it and press the combination at the right time to perform the dunk (which you could not choose)..if you completed the dunk then the next combination would be longer and more complicated...

the second way was much better and was actually fun to play because you didnt have to worry about memorizing anything:

first you choose where you want to start off (baseline, center court, three point elbow) then you would have to tap O fast enough to build up speed, and then when you get to the point where you wanted to jump, then you would press x to take off and then it kinda turns into a mortal kombat game where pressing different directions on the directionaly pad made different moves... i'll never forget the first time i did a 360 windmill or 360 through to legs...

a dunk contest wouldnt be that hard to impliment from what ive experienced so far.

So, would you really want that ?!?!?!? (I mean if they only care about getting more sales ?!?!?) I don't think so.

Why not make the dunk contest controls be like the Tony Hawk games? It's easy to string together different combinations of moves in that game with a few simple button presses.
