Gotta love alcohol - it's the best truth serum. What's funny is Gibson's lame apology - hey Mel, if you really feel that way about Jews, stick to your guns, you big phony. His views aren't surprising when you hear his dad's remarks about the Holocaust.
Will this hurt his career? I doubt it - money talks in Hollywood.

He's the Passion of Christ guy right? I guess its somewhat disappointing coming from him but when I really think about it, I dont care either way. I guess its because I think poorly of most celebrities.

That's what I thought. I never really pictured Mel Gibson as a racist type of person, but then again, I don't really give a shit about him.
Edit:

If you watch Passion of The Christ you'd start getting the idea he's kinda anti-semitic.
Pretty pathetic from him, Mel's a respectable figure over here but after this well I guess Jews won't be watching his movies.

Celebrities should be given a break. If some random drunk makes some anti-semitic comments, no one gives a crap. But if celebrities make mistakes, everyone gangs up on them. I know they are looked upon and are regarded due to their status but everyone makes mistakes.

The thing about this is that he made the Passion of the Christ which got some crap from Jews about being Anti-Semetic. Get it now?

While it's true that if he was Mel Gibson the anonymous member of society working in a 9-5 job the world wouldn't care about his views, the fact he is in the public eye, in a position where he can share his views with a large audience and thus offend a lot of people is significant. As an actor and filmmaker in Hollywood, he's in a position to influence other people. Consider that if a person makes a racist or sexist joke or comment in most workplaces, they risk being fired. They aren't "given a break", why should celebrities receive special treatment (especially when their actions offend a larger group of people)?
Furthermore, most people neither like nor admire racists whether they're famous or not so when someone like Mel Gibson makes anti-Semetic remarks - especially given the controversy over Passion of the Christ - it does stir up feelings of disgust.
