Why cant we get that kinda speed plus cable and telephone for that kinda price here in the US?

my friend has a 10MB a sec connection and it takes him 6-10 seconds to get an album and under 3 minutes to get a movie. That's good enough IMO...and he get's his shit for $10 a month.

No way! 10 MB/s doesn't mean you download at 10 MB/s...I have ADSL2+ at 24 MB/s and the max I download is 4 MB/s, which is still great.
Downloading an album (at max speed) usually takes me from 15 seconds to a minute. Downloading a movie takes me from 2 to 15 minutes, but only if I download at max speed (which is around 4 MB/s as I said before)...Usually it never happens, only when I download direct link files I get that speed (because I use FlashGet) but downloading with any other program (except iTunes...the time to download an album with it is always around one minute, not more) it never reaches 4 MB/s...Sometimes it doesn't reach even 1 MB/s.

It all depends on what server you download from. You might have a 2.5 Gb/s connection, but from a slow server, you're not gonna be able to download as fast as you would like.
