Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

I'm a little pissed with some members of this forum. As usual, we got an attack by a stupid spammer named "maddencrazy" who was posting ads for his dumb site; but thats not what pissed me off.
exhibit A:
http://www.nbaliveforums.com/ftopic40020.php
People on this forum seemed to have made it their duty while he was spamming to tail him around the forum and reply to his shit with "get da fukk out" and "i bet jae will ban this guy.." and "in before locked...". Most of you have been around a while and you should know better and I dont see that as any different from what the spammer did. Cut that shit out or next time or we'll have a mass banning go on here. Don't encourage idiots....it was hard enough keeping up with the moron as it was without everyone joining the 'short bus' along with him.

Note: i deleted a whole lot more threads and posts by this tool that contain more examples of what i'm talking about...but i only left this couple to show an example.

hey, I didn't post in any of those threads
I didn't even notice them until I saw this thread.

Trust me, if i didn't delete most of them...you'd have noticed.
I have a suggestion that i will propse to Andrew. How about we look for a phpp script that forces new members to the forum to only be able to post 5 posts or so per day for the first 3 months of their membership to the forums. That would help them get over their stupid n00b mentality if they have to choose their posts smartly and not just come with crap like "worrrdd". Ofcourse it would also help prevent mass spammers.
Opinions please...

Or how about one of those flood control mods that only let you have one post every 60 seconds or so?
I will post my thoughts on the other issue tommorow as it's late right now.

good idea yohance. I don't get these people. It took a few months for me to actually post regularly here, I think my first post was about a month after I signed up.
Thu Jul 20, 2006 3:30 am
I like your idea Yohance.Almost all of the new guys that join here my post like "omg thats so true","word""agree" etc.And in my opinion that really needs to stop.I would like to point this out that many of the new posters have like 13 posts per day,but don't say a decent thing in their posts.
Thu Jul 20, 2006 4:06 am
Hmm 5 posts a day? What if they have a dynasty story?
but none-the-less its a good idea.

I have a suggestion too, maybe you can make a rule saying you can't make posts anymore like "release!".
And I'd like to see requests dissappear from patchers thread unless they ask for "who/what to do next" (like courtney's most recently), but I understand that would be a little harder to accomplish.

There's a flood control in phpBB by default but it applies to all users and setting it too high would be quite bothersome. I'm fairly certain most of the additional flood controls are similar so it would be restricting everyone to five posts per day. If we were to implement something like that, we'd need it to have the ability to only be in effect for newly registered posters and also be user specific so quality posters would not have their hands tied. Even then, it's a little more restrictive than I'd like (though it would greatly help in some cases).

I agree, Yohance. There's nothing more annoying than a brain-dead spammer except for a guy that rides his coat tails bitching at every post he makes. Meloboy was a pretty good example of that.
If he's an idiot, leave him alone and let him get banned himself, although you're probably an even bigger idiot if you go around provoking that person.

Don't be such a hypocrite asdf.
Anyways, I took part in this and had 3 posts in the whole issue, I apologise for that.

That was a few months ago. I'm a changed man.

I think, we should install some like character rule like mixmakers has.
You can only post a reply if it has like 50 characters in it. So it will stop all the people to make comments like 'thx' 'wtf' and 'oh ok'
Thu Jul 20, 2006 2:58 pm
The character rule is fucking irritating.

i dont think that will really solve much, theyll just write more crap

You could always fill the rest of the post in dots with character limits too...
"lol ...................................................................................................."
Fri Jul 21, 2006 2:15 pm
yeah, i can see it now:
*******filling character limit**********

You should have put that on me while I was at .org, Benji.

I think its excessive Messenger usage that causes newer members to post in the one-liner style. From the 2 threads you posted thats the sense I got. Theres one particular member I saw who did it in both threads and maybe he just cant help it. I say yall shouldnt cap posts per day to new members but rather cap it when you realize them as spammer. Put them on a probation period for like a week(capped) and then see if they return a better man/poster.
