12th November - 19th November recap.
Game 1 - November 12th, 2006.
Toronto Raptors (0-4) vs.
Seattle Superonics (1-1)
The
Raptors were on a losing streak and the
Sonics seeked for the advantage against the under-manned
Raptors. But the
Raptors started the game with an 8-0 run. That didn't last for long as the
Sonics fought back and went on a 16-2 run of their own. Neither did that run last for long as the
Raptors answered back with a 10-2 run and
Ray Allen got into some foul trouble. The
Sonics finished the quarter ahead 24-22.
The
Sonics could only manage to increase their lead to as high as 8 points but they turnovered the ball too many times which allowed the
Raptors to sniff a chance. The quarter saw
Sonics big men
Chris Wilcox and
Nick Collison get points on the board after both having scoreless opening quarters. The
Sonics continued strongly, even with star player
Ray Allen riding the bench. Eventually,
Ray Allen was put on and continued the
Sonics run but he got himself back into foul trouble. The
Sonics finished the first half with a 13-4 run and would enter the half-time break ahead 53-40.
The
Raptors finally began to find their range in the 3rd quarter but they were outshunned by
Ray Allen, who was simply unstoppable for the defenseless
Raptors. The
Sonics were definitely exciting their homecrowd with exceptional plays like a double-handed windmill on a fastbreak by
Ray Allen,
Rashard Lewis grabbing his own rebounded miss and slamming the ball on
Joey Graham and getting the foul and
Robert Swift dunking over
Chris Bosh.
Johan Petro was a surprise scorer for the
Sonics as he scored 9 points to add to
Ray Allen's 17 points in the 3rd quarter to go into the final quarter ahead 88-67.
The
Sonics easily continued their momentum throughout the final quarter, increasing the lead to as large as 38 points. The
Raptors salvaged a late 8-0 run but it was all over by then as
Ray Allen got the ball on the fast break with 3 seconds left in the game and he tomahawked it down from jumping a foot past the free throw line to end a spectacular individual game, and team game, with the score 120-86.
Player of the game was
Ray Allen with 44 points, 20-38FG, 5 assists, 3 steals, 1 block and 2 rebounds.

Kenny Smith's play of the game
"Here is
Alvin Williams on the fast break, you know Kevin, we haven't seen him play that... OH AND HERE COMES
NICK COLLISON WITH THE HUGE BLOCK, you go young gun! A big man chasing down a guard down the court and blocking him into the backboard, great!"
Game 2 - November 14th, 2006.
Memphis Grizzlies (4-0) vs.
Seattle Superonics (2-1)
The
Grizzlies have had an excellent start to the season with 4 wins as they travel to Seattle to continue their run. The
Sonics play their final home game before going on a long road trip. The
Grizzlies started the game in style with an 8-0 run.
Rashard Lewis got into quick foul trouble but that didn't stop the
Sonics from going on a 13-2 run to retake the lead which saw
Ray Allen score 9 of those points.
Bobby Jackson,
Shane Battier and
Lorenzon Wright also got into foul trouble for the
Grizzlies. Despite being in foul trouble, the
Grizzlies finished the quarter with a 27-21 lead due to poor shooting and rebounding by the
Sonics.
Rashard Lewis was put back on the court for the
Sonics but he got his 3rd foul but he was kept on for a few minutes longer as he was deemed useful.
Earl Watson and
Luke Ridnour got into foul trouble as well. The
Grizzlies continued their strong defence as they didn't allow the
Sonics to go on any possible runs.
Lorenzon Wright got his 3rd foul and got injured after being caught under a
Robert Swift dunk. His diagnosis was back spasms, but he was able to return to the game. The
Grizzlies finished the quarter with a 55-44 lead, including making a 13-5 run.
The
Sonics began to lose concentration and start jacking up difficult shots, the
Grizzlies took advantage of that and increased their lead. The
Sonics failed to do anything spetacular as they missed shot after shot as the
Grizzlies went on a 23-3 run to close out the quarter ahead 92-63.
If there was a Joga Bonito in basketball, the
Sonics would be the exact opposite. Their ugly play continued in the final quarter, and they had no luck either, many times they would get fouled and miss a dunk and only get 1 free throw in, where there could've potentially been 3 points. The game finished with an airball from
Rashard Lewis as the
Grizzlies won 111-87.
Player of the game was
Pau Gasol with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block.
Kenny Smith's play of the game.
"..the ball passed into
Pau Gasol in the low post, double-team comes over, fadeaways and in! He's been doing that all day baby, all day."
Game 3 - November 16th, 2006.
Seattle Supersonics (2-2) vs.
Philadelphia 76ers (4-1)
The
Sonics traveled to Philadelphia to play their first road game of the year against the in form
Sixers. The
Sixers started the game by taking the early lead but then the
Sonics went on a 12-3 run with
Ray Allen scoring most of the points. The
Sonics continued their dominance with excellent shooting from
Ray Allen as he went 13 from 17 from the field to score 31 first quarter points as the
Sonics finished ahead 41-25.
Allen Iverson got into some foul trouble early in the 2nd quarter as
Ray Allen continued his excellent shooting. The
Sonics got out to a 20 point lead and looked to be staying there. Although
Ray Allen began to go cold, he was placed on the bench for the first time, after scoring 39 points already. The
Sixers did go on a 12-6 run in the final 6 minutes of the quarter but it wasn't enough as the
Sonics went into the break ahead 61-43.
Ray Allen scored 41 first half points.
The
Sixers started the 3rd quarter with a 7-0 run but the
Sonics managed to answer back with a 7-2 run.
Ray Allen stupidly got into foul trouble by hacking at the ball which caused the
Sixers to manage bringing the
Sonics lead down to 11 points.
Ray Allen received his 5th personal from a stupid coaching decision which saw him stay on the court. The
Sixers got to within 10 points but the
Sonics went on a 10-2 run to bring it back to a 19 point lead then the
Sixers went on a 14-2 run to bring it down to 7 points. The
Sonics did manage one more basket to finish the 3rd quarter ahead 90-81.
The
Sixers managed to get as close as 6 points early in the 4th quarter but some great defence by the
Sonics prevented them from going further.
Ray Allen received his 6th personal and the
Sixers got to within 4 points of the
Sonics' lead. The
Sonics continued to have the lead down the final stretch.
Damien Wilkins dunked on
Allen Iverson and
Allen Iverson got his 6th foul. The
Sonics extended their lead to 9 points then the
Sixers scored 7 points in a row with 90 seconds left.
Samuel Dalembert hit a tip in to level the scores at 111 with only 47 secs left.
Rashard Lewis drove in and got hit hard by
Kyle Korver and was sent to the line and nailed both free throws. Then
Kyle Korver missed a 3 point shot and the
Sixers fouled
Nick Collison hit both free throws.
Latrell Sprewell had one last hope for the win but his 3 ball spun out of the rim and the
Sonics won the game 115-111.
Player of the game was
Ray Allen with 44 points, 18-29FG, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, 6-6 FT in 22 minutes.
Kenny Smith's play of the game.
"..
Ray Allen drives in and left-handed tomahawk jam! That was nice Kevin, real nice. That's his 41st point in this half, Kev."
Game 4 - November 17th, 2006.
Seattle Supersonics (3-2) vs.
New Jersey Nets (3-1)
Both teams coming off losses, both teams came in wanting to win this game. The
Nets came out way too aggresively as they fouled 3 times in the opening minute, including 2 fouls from
Vince Carter. The
Sonics capitalized as they kept the
Nets scoreless for the first 7:30 of the game, while scoring 18 points themselves.
Jason Kidd hit a 3 pointer to break the drought which would be the only score for the
Nets that quarter as the
Sonics finished the quarter ahead 26-3. The
Nets went 1/15 from the field as the
Sonics went 11/15.
The
Nets managed to regroup in the 2nd quarter and put another 19 points on the board. The
Sonics looked to struggle offensively but they still kept a 43-22 at the break.
The 3rd quarter wasn't exciting at all as both teams turned to a slow pace game. The
Sonics still kept their lead, finishing ahead 73-45.
The game was pretty much over in the final quarter, the
Sonics had won the game in a dominant fashion, 96-69.
Player of the game was
Ray Allen with 29 points, 10-23FG, 9 steals, 6 assists, 3 rebounds,
Kenny Smith play of the game.
"Here's
Jason Kidd with the ball, will he amazingly dish it to an open man.. no, he's open himself and he hits the 3! Finally, Nets put some points on the board."
Game 5 - November 19th, 2006.
Seattle Supersonics (4-2) vs.
Toronto Raptors (1-7)
After totally dismantling their last opponents, the
Sonics traveled to Canada to verse the
Raptors as they seeked revenge from a week ago. The
Raptors began the game quite strongly having the small lead as
Ray Allen and
Rashard Lewis were the only scorers for the
Sonics in the first quarter, well for most of it because
Danny Fortson hit a full court buzzer beater from a rebound from a
Chris Bosh miss with 0.6 seconds left in the first quarter. The full court shot put the
Sonics in the lead at the break, 28-27.
Ray Allen scored 15 and
Rashard Lewis managed 10 points.
The 2nd quarter was an even battle until the
Raptors went on a strong run to get a 12 point lead. The
Sonics tried to fight back but
Ray Allen got into foul trouble and the
Raptors finished the quarter ahead 57-48. The
Sonics actually had a 100%, 3/3 record from the 3pt line, very rare so far in this season.
The
Raptors continued to have their lead and all hopes for the
Sonics were broken when
Ray Allen got fouled out with 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. The
Raptors played strong and won this game 110-102.
I simmed till the end of the game, too pissed off
Player of the game was
Morris Peterson with 30 points, 6 assists, 7/12FG.
Kenny Smith's play of the game
"
Chris Bosh, shoots, misses,
Danny Fortson rebounds and throws it at the basket, OH AND IT GOES IN! Miracle shot from the
Raptors free throw line by
Danny Fortson! My oh My."
Here concludes, if you must say, part 1 of my week recap. The 2nd part is the positive/negative stats for the Supersonics from each game plus Power Rankings.
I will be alternating between Power Rankings and current Sonics' stats for each weekly recap.
