Tough loss for Croatia who did a much better game than Brazil in my opinion.
I didn't expect much from Brazil in this game considering the massive media attention, yet they still disapointed me somewhat..

A win is a win

Brazil showed some flashes of jogo bonito today. I (and most people) expect more of them.

Ronaldo is a mo'fucking diva
damn... what's wrong with him ?

Good news

despite not playing their best Brazil still beat a pretty good opponent. First game is usually the toughest.
Watched about 60 mins of that France game.....that ugly mofo has the making of a cheater. He grabs the Swiss player by the jersey, pushes him and falls over and claims a foul......a graduate of the Rivaldo school for sure.
I hate the end of games where one team just holds onto the ball. So damn boring....and then it's funny how the team that's winning always has someone "injured" in the late stages of the game.
4 games on tonights menu....ownage!!!!

Hey, I never realised there was a world cup thread here. Hell, I never even realised there was a section about other sports, cause I usually never scroll down that much (cause I don't give a crap about the live 2005-2000 sections...).
Well, after almost every team has played their first match, I see many teams that couldn't live up to the high expectations. Included are Brazil, Holland, France, Sweden and England. Some teams surprised me with their amazing fighting spirit and inspired playing style. Like Australia, Croatia, Trinidad/Tobago, Ivory Coast, Ecuador and Mexico. But two teams were totally dominating and have the best chances for the title at the moment: Argentina and Germany.
My team had the best possible start into the tournament with the best goal we've seen until now. Even after the early equalizer, they did what they do best: score to the max. I didn't see one team that played so exciting during the past 5 days. Let's just hope that they will be able to execute their offside-trap better in tonight's game.

I think Rosicky's goal was better than Lahm/Frings.

Croatia played pretty well in the 2nd half. Look for them to get 2 wins.

That was great, too. But Lahm's shot was so damn precise. Btw, has anyone noticed that there are much more shot goals this year? I think it has something to do with the new ball - that thing flies pretty good.

it's only been one game though. I'll be damn surprised if Brazil, England, Holland & France brought their best game. Besides, some teams play differently in group stages than in further rounds. Obviously when you play one of the big teams in your first game you defend more trying to get a draw or score on the break, and then hope for good results against the weaker teams in your group.
Besides we all know Brazil is going to win it (once they shelve Ronaldo)
Wed Jun 14, 2006 7:57 pm
Yah, sure. I mean, it's basically what I said. You can't judge a team by its first appearance, of course. But the tendencies are promising, cause nobody would have expected the big teams to struggle like they did.
Is Ronaldo a lazy bitch or what???

Argentina were totally dominating?
They won 2-1 against Ivory Coast.
Wed Jun 14, 2006 8:07 pm
The Czech Republic are the best team based on round 1 games I think.
Wed Jun 14, 2006 8:22 pm
Yeah, they won 3-0 and they played very good.

But did you get the notion that anything could happen to them? I didn't. And their overall style of playing was very convincing, too.
I forgot about the Czech Rep.. They were awesome! Too bad that Jan Koller will be out for a couple games. That guy is a freak of nature...

Both Brazilian forwards were extremely passive during that game. I was pretty disappointed to say the least but I am happy they got the win. I feel they are too comfortable and need to wake up before they get a bite in the ass. They cant walk over every team and it seems as though they feel they can.
Overall there was nobody who really stood out. Maybe Kaka but thats about it. Oh well. If they improve every game as they say then hopefully the next one is a bit more thrilling.

yes.. the ball is different, many keepers were complaining, it has something to do with it goes faster and does curves easily
about the Brasil game both forwards didnt play at all, when Robinho came in he played better than both together. What i like is the improvement on the defense, more tackles on midfield.. Overall: they can play much better, but it was regular for a first game.
Wed Jun 14, 2006 9:54 pm
Robinho done jack shit IMO. Kaka was the only one that done anything (not just saying that because he scored the goal). Does anybody know where Ronaldinho was?
Wed Jun 14, 2006 11:51 pm
But Robinho did SOMETHING at least. He had the ball sometimes. Not like Ronaldo 'bring your personal cook to the tournament' lazy ass...

2-0 Spain over Ukraine in the first half. Ukraine are just bleh

. Spain are dominating like beeches. Although their 2 goals were from lucky deflections and shit.
Thu Jun 15, 2006 12:11 am
Spain always have the talent that they should make, at minimum, the World Cup Semi Finals everytime....unfortunately they often falter....even when they get out of their weak group, they will have to prove everyone wrong & advance when they are playing quality opposition....
Thu Jun 15, 2006 12:51 am
Damn, 4:0!!!

That's not what we're used to see from Spain. Must've been a pretty good game.
