Chelsea are set to seal a deal for Feyenoord forward Salomon Kalou.
Blues chief Jose Mourinho has been monitoring Kalou for a number of months and now the English champions have finally made their move.
Kalou has been looking to claim Dutch nationality and that meant Chelsea were looking to a deal and then let him stay at De Kuip on loan - in order for him to gain his passport.
However, the 20-year-old has now given up on his hope of playing for De Oranje and that has paved the way for a move this summer.
Chelsea made an official move on Thursday, after which point Feyenoord gave Kalou permission to travel to London.
"Anticipating the possible departure, we have given Salomon an authorisation to talk with Chelsea," Feyenoord marketing director Chris Woerts confirmed.
"We have been in talks with this club over Kalou for some time.
"It's going in the right direction but he still hasn't reached an agreement yet. Chelsea sees in Kalou an exceptional talent."
The two clubs are yet to finalise terms - although that is seen as a formality, and Kalou could be unveiled as early as next week.
Chelsea are ready to offer Kalou - who can play up-front or on either wing - a four or five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
The move will be subject to a work-permit and because Kalou does not meet current criteria, the decision will have to go to appeal when Chelsea will hope they are given the green-light to complete his signing.

Frank Lampard has revealed that a move to Barcelona would be a 'dream'.
The Chelsea star is currently tied down to a long-term deal at Stamford Bridge and the English champions are ready to offer him fresh terms following their successful defence of The Premiership title.
However, with Lampard's partner hailing from Catalunya - a move to Barcelona has always been mooted as possible option for the 27-year-old.
Having spent the weekend in Spain, Lampard admitted that a move to Camp Nou would be something he considered in the future.
"It would be a dream to come to Barca," Lampard told El Mundo Deportivo.
"But Chelsea has offered me a renewal, and I am very proud of that and it shows they have confidence in me.
"In addition the team is being reinforced and will be even more competitive and will be able to aspire to everything."

DÜSSELDORF, Jun 1 (SW) - Though it doesn't come as much of a surprise to German football fans, striker Lukas Podolski has said he will move to Bayern Munich from relegated Köln at the beginning of July.
Speaking at Germany's training camp, the young starlet said, "I'm happy the transfer has been worked out. I'm looking forward to a new challenge, a new city and a new club. Bayern are the best in Germany."
The 20-year-old said the decision to leave his hometown club was tough, and he proved that by staying with the club in the second division in 2004/05, but agreed that another year outside the top flight would keep his career down.
No details of the transfer fee have been disclosed to the public, but German media have long since reported that it is in the area of €10 million.

Ajax have sealed the signing of Spanish midfielder Gabri.
Gabri has penned a three-year deal at the Amsterdam ArenA after leaving Barcelona at the end of the season.
The versatile star arrives on a free transfer after seeing out his contract at Camp Nou.
Gabri will link up with former Barcelona assistant coach Henk ten Cate at Ajax and he is looking forward to playing for the Dutch giants.
"I have chosen Ajax firstly because of the coach," Gabri told the club's official website.
"I have worked with him for three years at Barcelona, he knows me well and I know him. He has convinced me this would be a good choice.
"Secondly I chose Ajax because of the history of this club and their level. Ajax is a big club in the world.
"With Ajax we could fight for a title, other clubs couldn't offer that to me.
"As well as that Barcelona and Ajax couldn't be compared. Both clubs have a famous youth academy, talents are educated at a young age to finally play in the first team.
"Also their offensive playing style is almost the same. Because of all these things I think I can adapt very quickly to the club, culture and the football."

Skysports.com wrote:Inter confident of signing Italian star
Internazionale will sign marksman Luca Toni from Fiorentina, according to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza's technical director.
Viola director general Pantaleo Corvino has already met with Inter officials once, and told them Serie A's top scorer is untransferable.
But Nerazzurri technical director Gabriele Oriali has stoked the flames by insisting the Italian giants have already made one offer for the Italian forward and will continue until they get their man.
"I can't confirm Corvino's declaration. Me and Marco Branca spoke with him a few days ago. We made an offer," the director told Sky Italia.
"Corvino's request is far from our responsibility. So that's our update. I think it will be a long negotiation, but I'm confident it will be positively closed for Inter.
"With all respect to Fiorentina, who will play in the Champions League next year, it's evident Toni would like to play for a team that could give him more chances to win something."
Toni, who scored 31 goals in Serie A last season, is in Germany with the national side and will need to maintain his focus for their opening World Cup game against Ghana on Monday.

Costa Rica striker Paulo Wanchope has expressed a desire to secure a move to Italian side Roma.
The forward, who netted twice in Costa Rica's opening day defeat to Germany, claims he came close to moving to the Eternal City earlier in his career and would not pass up the opening if it came his way again.
Recalling the chain of events when he was with Derby County, Wanchope said: "I can't forget it. It was January 2nd, 1999 and Zdenek Zeman called a friend of mine who is now my agent.
"I understand an offer was made, but it never happened."
Wanchope has alerted European teams to his talents with a starring display in the World Cup opener and he would jump at the chance to join Roma.
"I've played in England and one year in Spain, with Malaga, before coming back home," the CS Herediano man told Corriere dello Sport.
"But I'm 30 years old and I'd like to do at least another two seasons at the highest level.
"I'm missing the Italian experience and of the Italian sides, Roma are the one I want more.
"I would happily come to Rome to play with champions, Totti especially."
Reports in Italy have suggested that Roma are taking a close look at David Trezeguet should Juventus be relegated from Serie A.
The Old Lady are embroiled in a match-fixing scandal which has hit Italian football, and they could face relegation as a result.
If they are found guilty of serious wrongdoing and are relegated, it is certain that they will lose a host of their top stars.
Clubs around Europe are already casting an eye on Juve's best players, with Monaco having a look at Pavel Nedved.
Roma are thought to have put their sights on French striker Trezeguet, who will not stay in Turin to play in the lower leagues.
His father and agent Jorge insisted that they know nothing of any interest from Rome, as he is concentrating on the World Cup with France.
"We must only wait to know what will happen," Jorge Trezeguet told Corriere dello Sport.
"The justice officials are investigating.
"The only certainty is that my son has another two years on his deal with Juventus.
"Even if those in Turin are negotiating with Roma, we know nothing."

Everton midfielder Andy Van der Meyde has signalled his intention to return to Italy following a disappointing time in The Premiership.
The winger arrived at Goodison Park last summer, with manager David Moyes believing the flying Dutchman could help the club in their quest for silverware.
However, the winger was plagued by injuries last term and he has admitted that he regrets leaving Internazionale for Everton.
"I am sorry to have quit Italian football and Inter," van der Meyde told Corriere dello Sport.
Van der Meyde was a fixture in the Dutch side some 12 months ago and he feels his disappointing season in England cost him a place at the World Cup finals.
"I had a real will to play," he said. "I wanted to show my value and earn a place in van Basten's team for the World Cup.
"It is like I have lost a whole year, because I have played only ten matches in the Premier League due to injuries."
Juventus could find themselves relegated to Serie B, with the club currently being investigated over match-fixing allegations, and van der Meyde claims he would like to help the Turin club, but he also says he has an offer on the table from Porto.
"I hope there can be a place for me," he added. "I want to start from scratch.
"I would certainly be attracted to play for Juventus if they get relegated.
"But my old coach (Co) Adriaanse would like me to help him at Porto.
"I worked a lot with him at Ajax, but I really hope there could be a place for me somewhere in Italy."
Everton have remained quiet on van der Meyde's situation, but reports suggest they would be prepared to cash-in if a decent offer is tabled.
