Yeah, but they can't win a championship without Shaq. Shaq is the most dominating big man in the NBA. You can't replace him. Take him out of the Lakers, and they are just another regular team.

like they've won w/o Kobe? i know, so Kobe is replaceable, but really...is he? VC a clutch player, hardly like Kobe. T-mac...No clutch time. And thats another thing that got them through alot of the playoff games was clutch needed perfoprmances by Kobe, and others.
So yes I agree so Shaq means more to the team, but that would be funy then, becasue Houston or Thomas means more to their teams, respectively, but Spree is still the leader?
I know Shaq is alot more than any other player in the L, just he doesn't shot ALOT of leadership on and off the court. alot of times i see Kobe taking control and talking to the players about what to do. i se shaq as a recipient of the ball, and just another dominant part of the Dynasty NOW.
I say NOW because I see kobe grown into the leadership role NOW.

Though I still lean towards Shaq as being the leader of the Lakers (he's the most valuable commodity, so important in their offense and defense and not afraid to speak out), a strong case can be made for Kobe being The Man. Obviously, he won't truly be The Man until he no longer has Shaq around, but he's getting closer and closer to that status with Shaq's increasingly casual approach to the game.

Pretty soon it's going to be Shaq mumbling his usual remarks of being unstoppable and winning simply because they're the Lakers and he's Shaq (losing in the second round might be the best thing for Shaq - it might actually provide him with some motivation and the realisation teams aren't just going to lie down because you've won three titles) while Kobe rallies the troops.

Sprewell is no longer in his prime and he's seen better days. He's been around for 11 years and he'll be 33 fairly shortly. His field goal percentage has been down the last couple of years, though he did shoot a career best 37% from three point range. 2002/2003 certainly wasn't his best year, but apart from his scoring average his numbers were not too far off his career marks. He's not the player he was a few years back, but he's still a good player.

However, leadership has almost nothing to do with the stats the guy is providing to his team. We know a lot of guys who were not the leaders of their teams even when they led the team in scoring, why? cause they just can't handle that position (determination, experience, ability to take over closed games.)

On the other hand, we can mention few guys who are/were not the leader in scoring of their teams and still they are/were the guys you could call leader, some of them cause of the age (Miller, Ewing) but something is for sure, they were not in their best and still they are/were the leaders of the teams.
