well for those who were waiting on the Nintendo Revolution, it's name has been changed to "Wii"
http://news.ft.com/cms/s/5924c500-d63c- ... e2340.html heres one link

anyone like this name?

Fri Apr 28, 2006 11:59 am

Still not going to buy it.

I've never liked Nintendo, even as a kid. The only game I'd play would be Smash Brothers (the one for N64 and GameCube). I also outgrew a lot of their characters like Mario, Zelda and the others.

How do you pronounce Wii? Is it like, "whee!" or is it "why?"

Fri Apr 28, 2006 12:09 pm

Or is it w-2 as in WWII, without a 'W'?

Fri Apr 28, 2006 12:10 pm

Pronounced: We

Some logos.. not sure if they are legit or not:

The logo looks cool, but I don't understand how the upside-down angled 'n' would be part of a 'w.'

I guess it makes sense, they're both tragedies.

And LMAO @ "Nintendo We"... jesus.

Introducing… Wii.

As in “we.”

While the code-name Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that seperates videogame players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games… and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?

Wii sounds like “we,” which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive “ii” spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of videogames that sets it apart from the crowd.

So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because it’s really not about you or me. It’s about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything.

Revolution sounded cooler, though I haven't been a Nintendo player since the N64 (aside from bringing out the old consoles for some nostalgia every now and again) so it doesn't really affect me. But since that doesn't stop me having an opinion...their decision back in the day to change "Ultra 64" to "Nintendo 64" was a much better idea.

what a weird name now....

Fri Apr 28, 2006 3:56 pm

thats a stupid name what was wrong with revolution

Fri Apr 28, 2006 6:20 pm

But I really don't care because I'm waiting for the Playstation 3 :) .

Fri Apr 28, 2006 7:56 pm

the name is gay, but either way a remote controller? It's gonna suck ass anyway

Fri Apr 28, 2006 10:00 pm

Wii the Fuck?

Fri Apr 28, 2006 11:29 pm

We the fuck? lol

The remote control pad will be great for shoot em up games imo.. but since the snes, nintendo consoles have been to gimmicky.

I'm curious how well that will work. I've heard debates on this, but until somebody actually tries it out, we'll see if it'll be a "revolution" in the long run. For now, though, I'm happy with the conventional controller.

Sat Apr 29, 2006 1:53 am

I would buy both this and the ps3. Dont care much for the new name though, Revolution was cooler.

I've seen a demonstration of the controls on g4 and it looked awesome.

Sat Apr 29, 2006 5:13 am

"Wii" sounds too Asian. I think sales will decline from the game cube.

Sat Apr 29, 2006 5:32 am

They were set up for great success with the name "Revolution" I (and many gamer magazines) were convinced that nintendo would finally make a comeback.

I'm not so sure now- my guess is that this name ruins it.

So stupid.

Revolution was a great name- and fitting. Wii is just stupid.

YTMND has already exploded with dozens of Wii parodies.

Sigh. :(

Sat Apr 29, 2006 5:53 am

Wii makes more sense because the console won't be a technological revolution, but it will in terms of gameplay.

Heh.

The console hasn't changed, just the name. Changing names doesn't change how good something is, just look at Chris Jackson or Oliver Saint-Jean...

Actually, don't...those two are bad examples...

I agree that it doesn't really change it- I'm not of that mindset. But with a stupid name- materialistic America is less likely to accept it.
