Official Tank Bowl 2006 (Clippers/Grizz)

Wed Apr 19, 2006 9:23 am

I'm fascinated to see what happens tonight. The winning team loses home court and plays Dallas, the losers get home court in a first-round matchup with Denver.

David Stern has threatened to basically kill anyone who misses a shot tonight. But each team has zero incentive to win.

I wonder if they'll "rest" their starters? The whole game? Or will it be more subtle?

The only way this would be PERFECT would be if Ron Artest was also somehow involved. But unfortunately he isn't.

Oh well. Let the Tankfest begin!

Damn, nice situation they're in

Clips next game is against Dallas anyways.

Memphis are up 1 game, and have won their last 3, so i wouldn't exactly call it a tank fest.

If the Clips (who have lost four of their last six games) were to lose to Memphis, they would be locked in at No. 6. If they win and beat Dallas on Wednesday (and Memphis loses to Minnesota), they are No. 5. Let's all do the merry math together.

BTW, the #5 seed not only loses home court to Dallas...if they beat Dallas, they're in position to get San Antonio in the second round.

I'd rather have Clippers win, because If I recall, Mavs beat them the other time they played (Y)

Wed Apr 19, 2006 10:37 am

I love it. Each team shoots 35% in the opening quarter, Clips turn the ball over 8 times...including one play where Mobley just stops to tie his shoe(!) on the other end of the court. I love it!

Wed Apr 19, 2006 10:47 am

I don't really care, either of them will beat Denver!

Wed Apr 19, 2006 11:24 am

The Clipper announcer is seriously pissed.

"This is a bizarre half of basketball...the likes of which I've never seen before...because it's just so...goofy."

Wed Apr 19, 2006 11:25 am

 What's the score?

87-71 Grizz.

Grizz tried to give it back but the Clips immediately started fouling and took control back of the game.

and took control back of the game.

And someone please check the lineups, Kaman and Sam were not starting and didnt play a single minute, seems like the Clips will be winning the 6th seed and piss on Stern.

Wed Apr 19, 2006 12:36 pm

I knew they Clips would throw this game... it's so Mike Dunleavy-ish.

Not to say that isn't a smart idea, which it is. I would have done the same thing. The teams are fighting for a championship, and obviously playing Denver is a much easier route for the Clips... also factor in that they're 3 and 1 against them this year, it makes for a smart decision.

I think if the Grizzlies would've lost this game anyway and lost their final game along with the Clippers losing their final game, they would still have to play Dallas because I think Memphis would've got the tiebreaker.

Wow, just think if the Grizzlies best player didn't suit up...oh wait...

first round loss against dallas or 2nd round loss to the Suns. hmm, does it really matter?

Wed Apr 19, 2006 5:32 pm

damn, the Clips came back strong and gave me a scare... but I think there's a reason why they started Vin Baker.

Wed Apr 19, 2006 7:18 pm

haha....they should have gotten Shawn Kemp too, and someone from the crowd!

Clippers now have a very good chance at Conference Finals....they CAN beat Denver & Suns.....but, Denvers experience might just be too much for LAC...that's the toughest series to predict IMO.

Wed Apr 19, 2006 9:00 pm

I think playoff experience is overrated. Denver still sucks, whether they got knocked out in the first round last year or not. Obviously going to the playoffs year after year never helped the Mavs, or the Jazz in the 90s. It never helped my Atlanta Braves either..... lol

Wed Apr 19, 2006 9:25 pm

to some extent it is....but only Cassell knows what it's like to play deep into the playoffs on this team. When you have no experience it's gonna have affect on your game. Teams have 3 days to scout your team, they'll know everything about you and the games are slower.

I'm inclined to pick Denver.

I agree with Matt....provided they have a healthy Camby, they should be able to get buy the Clips in about 6 games....should be a great series though, however I think the Nuggets' playoff experience from last couple of years should help, plus the fact that Melo has ice cold veins is always good....

yes, one would expect close games and Nuggs have Melo, can't go wrong there.

Thu Apr 20, 2006 6:42 am

the Clips can put Q Ross on Melo and considering lil Earl is still out and Camby & Martin have one good leg between them, I think the Clips will win in 6.

The Nuggets were actually pretty good against the Spurs last year in the first round. Too bad injuries decimated Marcus Camby. They need people who can play besides Camby and Anthony.

No love for Earl Boykins and Andre Miller? (and Najera? this guy is an amazing hustle player, dives for loose balls, gives it his all)

ehh probably true....I don't get many games here besides Nets games so the only time I see other teams is when they're on TNT here sometimes.
