4th quarter surge gives Pistons thrilling win



Summary: Detroit overcame a 7-point deficit to start the 4th quarter to win the game. A flurry of threes from Rasheed Wallace and Carlos Delfino gave the Pistons(5-0) a late 6-point lead. The Suns(3-2) battled back to make it a 2-point game with 1.9 seconds left, but it seemed like too little, too late. But Tayshaun Prince threw the in-bounds throw over everyone across the court, giving the Suns a chance to tie. But Joe Johnson missed the potential game-tying shot, giving the Pistons the victory.


Pistons stats: Rasheed Wallace had a team-high 29 points, and Carlos Delfino added 17 points. Chauncey Billups had 10 points and 7 assist, and Ben wallace grabbed 8 rebounds.

Suns stats: Steve Nash scored a game-high 40 points and dished out 8 dimes. Shawn Marion had a double-double(20 points, 13 rebounds), and Amare Stoudemire added 14 boards. Joe Johnson added 12 points.

Pistons keep it a team sport, continue hot start

Summary: The Pistons had a 31-17 lead after te 1st quarter and never looked back. No Detroit(6-0) player had more than 17 points, once again displaying their ability to pass the ball. Portland(1-4) just couldn't get anything going today in the home loss.


Pistons stats: Chauncey Billups led four Pistons in double figures with 17 points. He also had 6 assists and 9 steals. The other double digit scorers for Detroit were Tayshaun Prince(14), Ronald Dupree, and Antonio McDyess(10 each). McDyess also had a double-double, grabbing 13 rebounds.


Blazers stats: Sebastian Telfair scored 26 points and Theo Ratliff had a double-double(14 points, 10 rebounds), but it was no match for the Pistons. Zach Randolph added 11 points and 8 rebounds.

Sloppiness costs Pistons

Recap: Detroit(6-1) couldn't find a groove against the Celtics (1-6), and the unbeaten Pistons lost, while the winless Boston won. The game wasn't as close as the score tells. Said head coach Flip Saunders: "I don't even know why we showed up today. We played like (explicit)".

Celtics stats: Ricky Davis led three Celtics in double figures with 38 points. Paul Pierce and Delonte West scored 27 and 16, respectively. Al Jefferson had 9 points and 9 rebounds, while Raef LaFrentz ripped 17 boards.

Pistons stats: Despite the bad play, Chauncey Billups managed 27 points, and Lindsey Hunter added 20. Rasheed Wallace added 13 points and 7 rebounds.

Team Notes:

Pistons head coach suspended 10 games

Detroit Pistons head coach Phil "Flip" Saunders is suspended for ten games for using explicit language in a post-game interview after the Pistons' 92-88 loss to the Boston Celtics. He will be replacd by D-League coach Jacob Milani during the suspension.
"It's going to be tough without Flip," said shooting guard Richard Hamilton. "Hopefully we can get over it and play our best."




Hopefully the loss of Saunders won't affect the Pistons gameplay





Hunter making most of opportunity

Lindsey Hunter is playing like a man possessed.

In the Pistons' 114-68 win over the Toronto Raptors, Hunter didn't even play the first quarter. Yet he scored 48 points. In the next game, an 107-88 win over the Sacramento Kings, he tallied up 29 points and 5 steals. He's cooling down a bit, but he is still playing great.

"I just want to go out there and do my job," said Hunter. "Hopefully I can keep playing like this and helping my team win".

Pistons hold off late surge

Summary: The Detroit Pistons held of a 4th-quarter comeback by Houston in the road win. The Pistons were outscored 25-15 in the 4th. With the game on the line and 5.9 seconds left with the score 90-87, Mike James threw up a last-gasp 3-pointer that bounced out. Stromile swift gets the rebound, and makes a 2-pointer with 1.9 seconds left(I wouldn't say Swift was the sharpest tool in the shed). The win gave interim coach Jacob Milani his first win as an NBA head coach.

Pistons stats: Tayshaun Prince made huge baskets late in the game...He finished with 20 points, and Chauncey Billups led the Pistons with 22. Lindsey Hunter added 13 points, while Rasheed Wallace had 8 rebounds.

Rockets stats: Mike James led the game with 29 points, while Tracy McGrady and Bob Sura added 29 and 13, respectively. Stromile Swift and Yao Ming each had a double-double. Swift had 10 points and 16 rebounds, while Yao had 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Hamilton has career game in win


Summary: The Pistons (8-1) controlled every element of the game today, while the Mavericks(4-5), playing without star player Dirk Nowitzki, just couldn't get anything started in the tough home loss.

"It's hard playing without Dirk," said Mavs point guard Jason Terry. "But he's not the whole team. We still have to go out there and play hard."


Pistons stats: Rip Hamilton had the best game of his career, scoring 53 points, including 25 in the 3rd quarter, and 40 in the second half. Antonio McDyess had 13 points and 9 rebounds, and Lindsey Hunter had 11 points.

Mavericks stats: Jason Terry scored 49 points and 8 assists, as he and Hamilton battled throughout most of the game. Two Mavs players had double-figures in rebounds(Erick Dampier and Keith Van Horn). They had 11 each.

Summary: Detroit(9-1) jumped out to a 8-point lead in the 3rd quarter, and kept it that way as they cooled down the red-hot Nuggets(11-2), led by Carmelo Anthony. Interim coach Jacob Milani is 3-0 during his time as coach of the Pistons.

Pistons stats: Rasheed Wallace had a team-high 22 points, and also grabbed 6 rebounds. Chauncey Billups and Tayshaun Prince scored 12 and 13, respectively, and Ben Wallace and Antonio McDyess both grabbed 8 rebounds and had 8 points each. After the game of his career, Rip Hamilton only had 4 points.

Nuggets stats: Andre Miller led all players with 32 points and had 9 assists. Anthony scored 22 points, and Marcus Camby added 16 points and 9 boards.

Summary: Detroit(11-1) didn't hold anything back, scoring 65 points in the first half, while holding the Wizards to 34. Washington(4-10) couldn't catch a break in the loss at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Detroit stats: Chauncey Billups was one of three Pistons with double-doubles, scoring 27 points and dishing out 10 dimes. The others were Tayshaun Prince(26 points, 11 rebounds) and Ben Wallace(11 points, 12 rebounds). Rasheed Wallace had 16 points, while Carlos Arroyo and Lindsey Hunter added 12 and 10, respectively.


Washington stats: Antawn Jamison scored 27 points, and Brendan Haywood had a double-double(11 points, 12 rebounds). Anthony Peeler added 15 points, whille Gilbert Arenas added 10.

Pistons, Suns execute blockbuster trade


The Detroit Pistons have announced they have traded centers Ben Wallace and Elden Campbell, and point guard Carlos Arroyo for small forward Shawn Marion.

"I'll miss Ben," said current shooting guard Rip Hamilton. "He's a great player on and off the field. But I'm not in control of these things. We just have to move on.

"I heard Jacob [Milani, interim head coach] say Shawn was going to play PF, so thats good. I just hope they don't trade me."

This trade will supposedly move Rasheed Wallace to the center position.

Summary: The Pistons(11-2) went into halftime up by 1, but played a sloppy 2nd half, costing them the victory. The Nets(10-5) had everything go their way in this one.

Nets stats: Jason Kidd had a game-high 31 points, and Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson added 14 each. Nenad Krstic had 9 points and 9 rebounds.

Pistons stats: Shawn Marion had a good Pistons debut, scoring 24 points. Lindsey Hunter had 15 points, and Chauncey Billups scored 10.

Summary: The Pistons(12-2) never trailed in their big win at the Palace. The Knicks(6-9) continued their struggles. Pistons PG Chauncey Billups sustained a sprained wrist. He will be out for 12 days.


Pistons stats: Despite the injury, Billups still tallied 20 points. Tayshaun Prince added a game-high 25 points, and also had 9 rebounds. Rasheed Wallace and Shawn Marion scored 22 and 16, respectively, and Antonio McDyess added 16 rebounds.


Knicks stats: Reigning 3-point champion Quentin Richardson scored a team-high 20 points and added 9 rebounds. Jamal Crawford scored 16 points, and Jerome James added 11 rebounds.
