Development Squad?

Thu Mar 23, 2006 8:59 pm

ok, for the last couple of years i have just scraped into the west australian basketball league team i play for because there were only ten players trying out. i only ever played the rubbish minutes, and didnt get on the court at all. over the christmas break i went and did some individual training to improve, in an attempt to move up the bench. naturally i wasnt very happy when i got to the first training of the year to find eighteen people trying out for ten spots.
Last night i received a phone call to tell me i was not in the final ten, which i knew was coming since the pre-season training started. HOWEVER......the coach has decided to enlist 2 players as development players, to train only and not to play. i have been offered one of those spots. so here are my options:

1. Take the place in the development squad
2. Go back to the individual training
3. Absolutely nothing

What should i do?

1 and 2.

Thu Mar 23, 2006 9:12 pm

Agree, do both.

Thu Mar 23, 2006 9:39 pm

there ain't enough time to do both...it's one or the other.

Why can't you do the development squad and 1/2 your training or something.

do the developmental squad then, i rekon it would be more fun to work with a small team than individual, but whatever you find more fun (and get the most out of)

exactly. no, the coach i work with individually has a million things on as well as me, and i'd have to go to all the team's games and shit...there's no times that we're both free. its a different coach to the one of the team.

I say developmental squad....if they have any injuries you could be called up to sit on the pine

Train with the team. You will get better when you train and play aginst other players. Hope that helps ya!

just thought id bump this up to give an update. i decided to go with the dev squad, and a week ago one of the kids in the actual team broke his leg. so theres now a free spot in the team, and two dev squad players to take it. initially he was to be out for 12 months, but they're now saying 3-6. and ive become a real shotblocking presence under the basket, rejecting two of our power forwards, and the coach tonight. so purely from an ego standpoint he might have to put me on the team. dont want to be getting swatted by the reserves now, do we? :P doubt it'll end up that way, but yeah. there's now a free spot at the end of the bench.

good luck on getting it (Y) to make sure you get it injure the other guy in practice

Good luck getting the spot, hopefully you get some PT if you do get it as well (Y)

I smell something fishy here, i suspect that broken leg wasn't an accident.
:P

That gives me an idea - why wouldn't we do a NLSC development forum for underdeveloped posters. Jugs comes to mind (j/k). But seriously, we need something like that because this is becoming a theme park with tools as its main attraction.

The idiots here are so ignorant, so fucking retarded, so non-english-speaking, so slow at picking up hints, and among many more things, stupid.

I cannot see anyone being able to talk sense into them - its easier to ban them and wait for someone smart to come along

That's sort of what my n00b prison idea is like, but it's near impossible to impliment.
