i dunno about dallas but i just want him back. i guess it's OK if it's dallas.
Thu Apr 06, 2006 1:20 am
working out today in dallas they say.
Other option is george lynch, who is just as old and never was a star like kemp.
Thu Apr 06, 2006 10:05 pm
If Kemp does come back, the worst thing that could happen after all this, and it just might happen, is he plays 3 or 4 maybe 6 or 7 minutes per game.
That would suck....
Thu Apr 06, 2006 10:15 pm
I'd like to see him in a significant role, but that at least would be a start.

insidehoops.com latest news is that kemp DID NOT make it to the workout on wednesday. There was a quote from avery saying adding a player looked sunny but now it looks cloudy.
I guess kemp won't make it. Maybe another team? It's just so doubtful. He's not older than some of the guys in the league. He's the same age as cassell and pj brown, who are still kinda good. He's younger than payton, mutombo, and cliff robinson who still contribute here and there. Other guys older than him playing this year were jon barry, antonio and dale davis, augmon, erv johnson, kukoc.... he coulda stuck around....

would've been awesome for an april fools joke if someone wrote a breaking news story about how isiah thomas signed kemp to a 6 year 44 million dollar deal.

It was funny, then you had to copy it.

That's a shame. I was hoping he might go to the Bulls earlier this year to shore up the frontcourt though that's probably unlikely.

iam disgusted by people who never see him play.. judging about his career, stat whatever....
in The 90 he was the No.1 Power Forward!!... Hands Down.. Webber 2nd and Malone on the 3rd.
i hope he gets back to a nice team.. to fullfill his mission....
Do you think he has a shot at the Hall of Fame?
PS. For all the doubters.. dont ever underestimate the Reignman
PS2: Sorry iam a die hard reignman fan who just thinks that shawn made bad mistakes and deserves a second chance...
Mon Apr 10, 2006 6:31 am
We can tell you're a fan. It's Malone 1st, then everybody else
Mon Apr 10, 2006 1:51 pm
Much as I like him, if he's got a shot it's an outside one at this point. Perhaps if he can return and have a couple of productive seasons he'll be in with a shot but that ship has probably sailed. A shame, because he was on that route in Seattle.
Mon Apr 10, 2006 4:10 pm
Well he can do something at least like getting the rebound.
Mon Apr 10, 2006 4:16 pm
True. But making a comeback only to grab four or five rebounds in ten minutes per game, while impressive, probably won't make a stronger bid for the HOF than if he doesn't come back.
Tue Apr 11, 2006 10:47 am
What if Kemp does a bench player role like what Bill Walton did with the Celts back then?
Tue Apr 11, 2006 12:29 pm
Possibly, but the difference is Walton had already led the Blazers to the 1977 championship before the worst of his injuries hit him and he was reduced to that role.

Avery Johnson: "It's dead".
Too bad. Can kemp catch on in another team real quick? I doubt it. Next season? That's a long time for an older guy like kemp to wait. The draft comes in and knocks out the spots for these older guys. Look at wes person, gugliotta, laettner...

Shawn Kemp to Zalgiris!
Oh man, if they do it this summer, I'm gonna kill somebody. There are rumours, that if Shawn fails to find a team in NBA, he might go to Europe, and Zalgiris (my team) staff for some reason just love former NBA stars that are old now We had Robert Pack last season, he played exeptionally well (avg 18 PPG in Euroleague, 2nd strongest league after NBA, if somebody doesn't know), but was blamed for playing VERY selfishly. And by very I mean that he just to fall in love with the ball at the point guard spot and woudn't wanna share it.
This year, we signed A NBA SUPERSTAR, ALL STAR, AND ALL OTHER STAR (he was presented like this) K. Anderson He, differntly than Pack, is just playing terribly and gets smth. like 3 points and 1 assist per game, even though he plays almost 30 minutes. Another interesting fact, that after he arrived and the other point guard (E. Cota) was fired, Zalgiris hasn't won a single game in the Euroleague. Can't belive he has the rating of 66 in the NBA live, he should be like 12 or smth.
Sorry for the total of topic, I just thought I share with you how your former all stars are doing. And I can just Hope that Kemp won't go to Zalgiris.

If Robert Pack can average 18ppg there that's a very,
very distant 2nd to the NBA.

With the Mavericks scenario falling through, I doubt it as well. Maybe next season but with each passing year it becomes less and less likely...no matter how much weight he may have shed.

You know, I thought about this for a couple of minutes and I realised, that it depends on many little aspects of the game. For example, let's review R. Packs playing style. He is a very physically strong guard, who has good ballhandling and exeptional driving ability. Most of his shots came from driving layups, because he was able to use his strenght to overpower almost every point guard in the Euroleague (the Euroleague is much less physical than the NBA, so the guards are weaker, but faster). And, as I said, he tryed to be the leader of the team and took really many shots, and got only about 2 assists per game, even though his job was to mostly just pass the ball to the box, because we have probably the strongest frontline in Europe.
While K. Anderson, who should be much better than R. Pack, afterall, he is the NBA al star, a very famous player. But his playing tyle is absolutely different. He has a great ballhandling ability, also could (some years ago) drive to the basket and shoot the mid-range jumper. But he is much weaker, so he couldn't use his strenght as an advantage over other guards. He also has an incredible passing ability, whitch is still there, this is probably one of the few things that he still can do well. He can spread the defence with some very nice unpredictable passes. Some of them seem like from "and 1" or smth. , when the defender just doesn't see where's the ball dissapear from Anderson. But, even though he's getting plenty of playing time, he isn't really showing the results. as I said 3 points and 3 assists per game isn't what you expect from your starting point guard. IMO, he's the reason why we lost 6 in a row before going out.
So my point is, that because of the difference of the playing style in the NBA and in the Euroleague, a good NBA player can play terribly in Europe, and a NBA bench warmer can adapt nicely in Europeand be one of the better players. The same goes for players from Europe. I ean, just look at Macijauskas.
Fri Apr 14, 2006 8:48 pm
That's all true, though you also have to take into account their skill degeneration... like Robert Pack might've kept himself in better shape than Kenny Anderson (who was probably only playing for money and no other reason) so that could explain things, but 3/3 is horrible for someone of his calibre.
Sun Apr 16, 2006 1:08 am
Well that's my point. When R. Pack arrived to the team, Zalgiris staff were blamed by some fans about this being a bad choise, cause Pack's old and stuff like that. No one took interviews from him, amost nothing. He just came here, wanted to play well, gave his 100% every game (including Lithuanian league, where we are crushing everyone. Even though he was selfish) and silenced all the critics (besides those who blamed him for selfishness) and became one of the best scorers of the league.
While K. Anderson was an absolute opposition. When he recently arrived, he told that he will show stuff we haven't seen before, he can lead us to the crown and shit like that. That's, besides the other reasons that I said in my previous post, the main reason why he didn't adapt and didn't show anything. Another interesting fact. As you probably don't know, Zalgiris has a great youth school, probably the best in Europe, MAYBE in the world (where do you think Ilgauskas, Jasikevicius, Kleiza, Andriuskevicius and many many many many more players came from? That's right). So, after some dreathful performances of Anderson, Zalgiris former head coach A. Sireika (Lithuanian NT coach, the one who beat USA), promoted a Lithuanian supertalent M. Kalnietis (He's in my sig) from the youth team to the senior Zalgiris team. He, IN HIS DEBUT, his first game as a pro, played MUCH better that Anderson. He got smth. like 8 points and 3 assists. While Anderson around 2 points and 2 assists and a terrible field goal %. In his second game, he got 15 points and 6 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals, while Anderson finished with 0 points, 1 assist and smth. like 4 turnovers (I'm not sure, and I'm too lazy to go to the Euroleagues home age to see the stats). Your probably wondering why I'm writing all this, but I just wanted to show you how an NBA player can become a NOTHING, a laughing stock of European basketball, if he's arogant and doesn't work. And to show everybody that in the next couple of years M. Kalnietis might (probably will) become a NBA player. Once again, sorry for the offtopic.

why's it so hard to believe Pack can score 18 ppg? He did once...

Ten years ago. With the Bullets.
Sun Apr 16, 2006 10:22 am
That's what I'm sayin'. And he hasn't lost almost anything in these years. He kept his speed, strenght, fatigue and ect. And he was given alot of shots in Zalgiris and we can see the results.
