Just saw Curry's profile on NBA.com:

Traded from Chicago, with Antonio Davis, to New York in exchange for Tim Thomas, Michael Sweetney, two future second-round draft picks, a 2006 conditional first-round draft pick and the right to switch future first-round draft picks on Oct. 4, 2005.

Is that lottery pick the Bulls are going to have this season from the Knicks? If it is, what's the condition. If it's not, is it a different pick?

Chicago receives New York's 2006 first round pick (no protection) condition: (unless it is pick 26-30 in which case it goes to Utah) (Eddy Curry trade 100405)

The Knicks would have to finish as one of the best 5 teams this season. That is not possible anymore. ;)

"The same Allan Houston who missed 62 games and averaged 11 points last year was better than Marbury, who played every game and posted 21 points and eight assists a night?"

'If you can't do that, if that's not important enough to you, it's not on me. It's not on me.'

It's not on me. It's on Marbury, the guy who leads the team in minutes, scoring, assists and steals -- one of two players in NBA history to average 20 points and eight assists for his career. (Oscar Robertson is the other.)"

its about time someone other than me stuck up for marbury. if marbury wasnt putting up numbers it would be a different story, but he is. and for those who say marbury is a selfish player and doesnt make his teammates better? how is 8asts for your career not make ur team better? marbury is averaging 10 shots a game this season, and he's selfish? well if thats what you call selfish then what the hell do you do with 26-shots-a-game-kobe??

and its finally great to hear someone of stature to join me in sticking up for marbury:
" 'Marbury wants to win. He came up to me on the plane and pointed to my [1973 championship] ring and said, 'I want what you have.' Besides, the guy has skills; he can get to the basket against anyone.' "

I seem to recollect from a post in an earlier thread (Marbury: I'll play my way) that I WAS THE ONE who said marbury just wants to win and has the talent to be the best pg in the league. ok well Frazier didnt so far as to say that marbury could become the best point guard but he still did vaguely acknowledge his potential.

"To be sure, Marbury is an easy target. His detractors rattle off his failures in Minnesota, Phoenix and New Jersey as readily as they bring up Brown's record of improving his teams. "

thats probably one of the best points in the whole article. probably the biggest thing people have against marbury is that he hasnt won anywhere. and now that he's losing in new york, its still his fault even with the hall-of-fame-i've-won-everywhere-i've-coached larry brown.

yes i'll admit the situation in new york isnt even at the very least conducive for marbury to get his ring, but i still strongly believe that if some changes happen (getting rid of marbury isnt one of them of course!) i think that the knicks can get much better. besides, lets say if marbury gets traded and starts winning somewhere else. well, the marbury critics might shut up, but even that satisfaction isnt enough to make marbury as happy as he would be if he won in new york. but apparently no one cares about loyalty in this league anymore... (see: [Marbury: I'll play my way])

There is a large difference between wanting to win and trying to win. Marbury doesn't seem to do the latter if things aren't going his way.

i see your point, and i'm also a big advocate of still playing and trying hard even if the season is lost, but as bad as this season has gone, why risk injury and jeopardize your future?

wanting to win and trying to win? i thought they went hand in hand... i didnt think you could have one or the other. i mean if you want to win, is there any choice other than to try? is it possible to not want to win and still try to win?

The way Marbury likes to play is always monopolizing the ball and looking for his own chances to score. That's not a bad thing if you are one of the best scorers in the league but Marbury is not one of them (see his field goal percentages - mediocre). His 8apg are misleading as he mostly penetrates and only passes the ball when he does not see a way to score by himself. Then he dishes the ball to someone but does not exactly pass the ball to his teammates in their comfort zones like real playmakers like Kidd and Nash do. A playmaker's task is to make the shots for his teammates easier. But Marbury does not play for his teammates but only for himself. Even worse, his defense is atrocious and opponents can score against him easily.

Furthermore he is one of the worst locker room cancers. No team will succeed if the players always fight themselves. With Marbury playing and acting that way his teams will never win.

Sorry to disagree but Marbury is the biggest problem of the Knicks.

Great post - you said it all. That's what drives Larry Brown nuts. Marbury's game is the total opposite of what Brown wants in his PG. He doesn't feel Marbury's style is conducive to winning basketball. Neither one will adjust, which is why "Starbury" will be gone.

Correction, Masilo - James Dolan & Isiah Thomas are bigger problems for the Knicks. You all are kidding yourselves if you think it'll change next season. Is Isiah going to become Rod Thorn over the summer? I don't think so.

They should go hand in hand. I know Marbury wants to win, but the problem is the way he goes about it. I don't know for sure obviously because I don't know him personally, but it seems like he thinks that to win he doesn't have to try hard. If he was doing what Larry asked of him, and I think he was for a while there, he would be working 10 times as hard as he is now.
In other words, I don't think he wants to put in the hard yards in order to win. But he does want to win. See the problem?

Me neither.

Isiah Thomas is responsible for assembling a non-fitting team (why would anyone sign Larry Brown for this team? Everyone knows that he prefers hard-working players who emphasize teamplay. Marbury is not known for teamplay - for a decade! - while Curry and Jerome James are not known for working hard) and so he really is the bigger problem for the Knicks because he doesn't seem to have a real plan for the future. Blame Dolan for giving him an absurd amount of money to fail, but Isiah is the (non-functional) brain of the Knicks.

Marbury is the face of the team, he has to be the playmaker, the example for the other players to play hard and as a team. He failed miserably and even drove some of his teammates nuts. What I meant was that he is the biggest problem among the players.

Will Larry Brown Jump Ship?

Wouldn't surprise me. His nomadic ways are well documented.

Jamal Crawford does it again, another game winner. The Pacers continue to drop, which isn't to the Knicks' advantage but does help Chicago. New York has been quite generous to the Bulls this year.

Sat Apr 08, 2006 1:21 pm

I love Jamal Crawford. I've never been a fan of his shot selection or his defence, but he's really turned it around. One of the bright spots coming out of the Knicks this season.

Sat Apr 08, 2006 1:21 pm

lol, knicks work for the bulls i guess

Sat Apr 08, 2006 11:06 pm

Another game winner for Jamal Crawford. Boy, I'm going to have to jump on his bandwagon soon.

The Knicks picked up a D-Leaguer, Ime Udoka or something. He played a few games for the Lakers a few years ago and has been one of the best in the NBDL for the last few seasons. From what I read he's a tough defender and a good outside shooter. Being from the NBDL you'd think he'll play his ass off to try and earn a contract.

Mon Apr 10, 2006 9:36 am

haha sup with that crawford guy? brown again has pulled an 180 and is praising Crawford

Mon Apr 10, 2006 10:39 am

Yes, Crawford had another great game with 31 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists.

Also, the all-mighty Qyntel Woods (a.k.a. Jesus) scored 9 points. Huzzah!

Sounds awsome..knicks need someone who actually cares about being in the NBA other than Crawford.

Mon Apr 10, 2006 1:40 pm

great knicks finally winning some games now.. hope they can pass the hawks and continue to decrease that lottery pick (Y)

Mon Apr 10, 2006 1:44 pm

^^So are the knicks going to the playoffs? I think its better they do get 1st draft pick they can get JJ Reddick or Adam Morrison (Y) (Y) (Y)

Mon Apr 10, 2006 1:46 pm

That'd be a fine plan, if that pick didn't belong to Chicago as a result of the Curry trade. ;)

Brown will do/say anything to piss Marbury off.
Allan Houston was the best player last year.
Penny Hardaway is the Knicks best player (during the preseason).
Francis moves the ball better.

Tue Apr 11, 2006 11:07 am

He was praising Crawford months ago, said something about him being one of the best kids he's coached.
