Spurs are 2003 NBA Champions

Postby Andrew on Mon Jun 16, 2003 1:23 pm

Congratulations to the San Antonio Spurs, the 2003 NBA Champions! I would have liked the series to go seven games, but at least the Nets didn't go quietly. However, the Spurs wrapped it up in 6, with an 88-77 victory.

Recap

Edit: Great game from Duncan, who was justly named the Finals MVP.

Good job by the Spurs....that 18-0 run was beautiful....Manu's steal....

Great job by Duncan...who had 2 blcks stolen by the evil stat keepers...he should have had a QD....he deserved the MVP award...

It was great to see Kerr get some minutes.....also was great seeing Jackson produce so well, and Manu play for many minutes...

Shitty job by Kidd and Parker...

and the finals were boring to watch in general...
too bloody predictable...

well.....there's always next year...

Congratz spurs idd, this is what the outcome should have been :) . And bout the "ugly" play of the finals, they were two top defensive teams doing at what they are best, so give them a break(no offence to anyone), the big question remains, how bout j-kidds future?

spurs are the nba champions! (i hope i can say next year that sixers are the nba champs) it would've been even better last game for the admiral if td would've got the qd...but robinson had a good game too 17 rebouns and 13 points.
good bye david the admiral robinson!

p.s:pavel it was 19-0 run not 18

keep in mind they'll have so much cap room they can sign any high-profile free-agent this summer... like jason kidd...
OR... if they don't get Kidd, and Nets re-sign him... they can hold onto that cap-room and wait for KG next summer...

anyway, congrats Spurs...

Congrats to the Spurs. I wish we could've lost to a more interesting team at least but hey...with some retooling (a new coach) and a scorer we can be right in the hunt.

Congrats to the Spurs, I feel happy for D-Rob for going out in style by winning another one. In this Finals, it exposed Byron Scott's coaching miscues truly in front of the worldwide audience. Finally, ABC's coverage stinks, only if TNT wasnt a cable TV (are they?)

Again, Congrats to the Spurs

Oh, it is a glorious time, indeed! :D
Sorry I couldn't respond sooner; I was out partying last night

Who can argue TD is the best player in the league now? Almost a quadruple double!

Titles: Lakers 3, Spurs 2 (in recent years). We're coming for ya, LA!

Yea, it is. I used to get TBS games since I get that channel, but they only show them on TNT now. :(

As Tony mentioned, the Spurs will have a lot of cap room this offseason. A Jermaine O'Neal, Jason Kidd or even Karl Malone might very well allow the Spurs a return trip to the NBA Finals next year. But if I were the Spurs, I wouldn't count on Kidd or O'Neal leaving - I'd have a Plan B.

the big question remains, how bout j-kidds future?

If the Nets continue to improve and remain one of the East's top teams, Kidd's path to the NBA Finals will be much easier. Despite the odd mention of a rift between Kidd and Scott, I have a feeling he'll be back in New Jersey next year.

I don't know Andrew, ONeal seemed pretty disgusted being a Pacer after that first round loss... San Antonio would look sweet... He could be the most exciting player on the team and turn into more of a superstar with a mentor/teammate like TD. Both of them would probably average a double double. Parker becomes a reliable 3rd option... Another thing I'm suprised noone mentioned... What about ZO? No more monster numbers, but if he could play the amount of time Robinson has this year, he might be a good band aide for a center in SA, he could score some points and play some anchor defense...

O'Neal has already linked his future to Isiah Thomas, so if Thomas goes O'Neal might also walk. At this point I think he'll stay in Indiana, just as Kidd will probably stay in New Jersey. But I guess anything's possible, we'll find out soon enough.

I think Zo will re-sign with Miami. He has mentioned that money will be an issue, and no one can offer him as much as Miami can. They're probably the team that is most willing to take a risk on him. But if he was to sign with the Spurs, he'd definitely be a good replacement for the Admiral.
