Cavaliers and Bucks strike 4-Man Trade



28/10/05: Today a 4-Player trade was agreed between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Milwaukee Bucks. The Cavaliers send Larry Hughes (SG) and Alan Henderson (PF) to the Bucks and receive Michael Redd (SG) and Dan Gadzuric (C). A Cavaliers spokesman stated that the original goal of the trade was to generate cap room as both Redd and Gadzuric only have 1-year contracts, and the Cavaliers are beginning plans for major franchise reconstruction. It was later added that depending on the outcome of the season, both Redd and Gadzuric might be signed to longer deals. Michael Redd will wear the Number 22 jersey for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Dan Gadzuric will wear the Number 50 jersey.

Cavaliers sign Rookie Free Agent


29/10/05: Today the Cleveland Cavaliers signed rookie free agent Stephen Graham to a 4-year contract, with the financial value not made public. A Cavalier spokesman said that they had been monitoring Graham for a while and with recently generated cap room they managed to sign him to a good-length contract. He added that the Cavalier staff believed that Graham could develop into a strong NBA-standard player. Graham himself was delighted with the move, and now joins his twin brother Joey Graham (Toronto Raptors) in the NBA. Graham can play at either the Shooting Guard position or Power Forward position and will wear the Number 1 jersey for the Cavaliers.

INCOSISTENCY SPOILS OPENER FOR CAVALIERS

The Cleveland Cavaliers were unable to get their season off on the right foot with an 18-point loss at the Minnesota Timberwolves. Coach Mike Brown used the word 'incosistent' to describe his team's performance, and looking back that is an accurate reflection.

On one hand, franchsie player LeBron James posted strong numbers in scoring, rebounding, assists and field goal percentage.

On the other hand, starting guard Eric Snow's night was cut short by injury, and both Drew Gooden and Michael Redd shot below average figures from the field. Gooden made a game low 2-11 from the field.

"Garnett was a monster all night," said Cavaliers' newcomer Michael Redd. "On both defence and offence he showed why he is always an MVP candidate." Timberwolves' forward Kevin Garnett had 23 points (8-10 from the field), as well as 14 rebounds and 6 assists.

Head Coach Mike Brown said that they hoped to turn this around tomorrow night at home against the Denver Nuggets. He also added that starting guard Eric Snow would miss two weeks of action with a broken toe suffered in tonight's loss.

CAVALIERS PREVAIL IN CLOSE-KNIT CONTEST

The Cleveland Cavaliers took their early season record to 1-1 with a thrilling home victory over the Denver Nuggets. They finally outlasted their opponents by two points, with Drew Gooden hitting the match-winning shot with 2.4 seconds left on the clock.

Overall the performance was an improvement over their losing display at Minnesota although some players still shot very poorly. Despite making the game winning shot, Gooden again finished 2-11 from the field. Replacing the injured Eric Snow at point guard, Damon Jones shot 5-13 from the field and Michael Redd 'improved' from 6-15 to 7-15 shooting. LeBron James was the star man again as he shot 11-13 from the field for 24 points and added an impressive 14 rebounds and 6 assists.

The Nuggets were trailing by 10 at the half and didn't managed to get within 4 until the last quarter. In the closing minutes it degenerated into an all-offensive war with both teams trying to outscore the other to victory. The Nuggets shared their points well amongst starters and bench players, with Carmelo Anthony having a team-high 20 points.

This is what could have won them the game ahead of the Cavs. The Cavaliers use of their bench was nothing short of woeful last night with only 1 of 4 bench players used getting double figure minutes (Donyell Marshall). When questioned about this after the game, rookie newcomer Stephen Graham said, "I'm a bit dissapointed not to get more time but the team got the W and that's more important."

CAVALIERS WIN DESPITE LATE PHOENIX RISING

The Cavaliers took their record to 2-1 with an impressive defensive display against the Phoenix Suns last night. In the first half the Suns were held to quarters of only 18 and 19, which served as the catalyst for the Cavs to take a ten-point lead into the half.

Michael Redd was free-scoring in the first half nailing three consecutive 3-point attempts on the way to 18 points off of 5-10 shooting. LeBron James was again the high point man, making 26 off of 12-15 shooting. The game was a strong one for the Cleveland bench, who coming off a near shut out against Denver, combined for 24 points.

There was a stunning low amount of both assists and rebounds amongst the team with Zydrunas Ilgauskas grabbing a team-high 7 rebounds and James 5 assists. However, the minutes were shared out very evenly with Ilgauskas, Drew Gooden and James having a team-high 21 minutes (Possible 28) each.

The Suns' downfall could be attributed to the fact that the only used 6 different players. Indeed, it was a poor usage of the bench and it cost them as they pushed for the win. Steve Nash had a team-high 24 points and 6 assists, with Amare Stoudamire grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds.

CLEVELAND STORM TO THIRD STARIGHT WIN

For the first time this season a Cleveland Cavaliers game was not dominated by LeBron James. Despite having 21 points and 11 assists in 34 minutes, James was overshadowed by the 4th quarter performance of Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Big Z scored 15 of his 27 points in the final quarter including Cleveland's last six as they stormed to a 14-point victory.

Michael Redd had the team high 29 points (Including 10-11 from the free throw line) and Damon Jones contributed 16 points.

The Cavaliers reverted to an 8-man rotation system with Donyell Marshall, Anderson Varejao and Dan Gadzuric being incorporated into the game. Gadzuric was impressive in grabbing 9 rebounds in 14 minutes.

The Wizards' were led in scoring by Gilbert Arenas who had 25 points, with Antawn Jamison grabbing a game-high 11 boards and Antonio Daniels dishing out 8 assists. When asked about the team performance, Jamison said, "We just weren't godd enough last night. We missed too many shots and committed too many turnovers."

Cleveland Head Coach Mike Brown added, "We played some good ball tonight and we're looking to get a good early run in the season." This win is Cleveland's third straight and takes them to an early 3-1 record.

CELTICS SINK CAVS IN THRILLER

Fans in the Quicken Loans Arena witnessed a modern classic. Cleveland fired out of the blocks to lead 25-17 at the end of the first quarter but were then held to below 20 in both the 2nd and 3rd quarter. Coming into the final quarter the Celtics led 82-63. A mmamoth 37 in the 4th quarter looked enough to carry the Cavs to victory until Paul Pierce sunk a three-pointer with 1.5 seconds left on the clock to take the score to 102-100.

The 4th quarter surge could be largely attributed to LeBron James and Michael Redd who combined for 6 consecutive 3-pointers, as well as 45 points in the entire game. All five starters broke double figures for Cleveland, both it was their bench that was their undoing again.

Despite Dan Gadzuric grabbing an impressive 9 rebounds, the five bench players used in rotation combined for a measly 10 points. 6 of those points came from Stephen Graham.

Head Coach Mike Brown said, "This is a tough loss. We were hoping to build a winning streak but we conceded a game at home tonight that we should have won. The bench's contribution was not up to par. They're getting more minutes but not producing the goods."

One piece of good news for Brown and the Cavaliers is that Eric Snow should be eligible for the next game against the Sacramento Kings after missing two weeks of action with a broken toe.

Paul Pierce was the high-point man for the Celtics with 28 points, with Ricky Davis dishing out a team-high 8 assists and Kendrick Perkins grabbing 9 boards.

CAVS OUTSCORE KINGS TO VICTORY

Drew Gooden was the high point man for Cleveland with 26 points in their 4th win of the season, but the night belonged to LeBron James. The third-year superstar had 24 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds in 39 minutes as the Cavaliers hit the wicket-score.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas had a good night from the field with 9-11 shooting for 20 points and both Michael Redd and Eric Snow again broke double figures. Damon Jones was effective off the bench as he scored three 3-pointers for 9 points in 10 minutes.

The Sacramento Kings were outscored in every quarter but managed to get 4 starters with 10 points or more. Brad Miller had 12 points while Peja Stojakovic, Bonzi Wells and Mike Bibby combined for 60 points. Stojakovic had the team-high 24 points.
