buddy are you talking about "you" getting faster speed?

if so, don't worry about no programmes & whatnot? It takes, practice, hard work, lots of trainning and dedication...

try plyometric training- also used to improve verticles. but this also improves quickness and faster, more powerful strides, reaction time in your lower body muscles
Jump.

Try making your legs stronger with weights...like, don't go for the power, ie leg pressing a ton or whatever...go more for tone to get rid of any fat. Plyometrics also help quite a bit.

Another way to improve your speed would be to run distances (say, 2 miles) and end on a 400 meter or so sprint; it'll help your endurance and help to naturally make your legs stronger.

Try doing a search on the internet, there's many simple things. I don't know what to do for lateral quickness, but I was my quickest (till knee injury :() doing those things...if your legs are toned and without fat, then it'll help them. Remember, very strong muscles also weigh more and slow you down....

But how come Michael Johnson, Maurice Green, Linford Christie and (insert any other famous sprinter here) are build like the proverbial brick shit house and they are the fastest runners on the planet. I say hit the weight room and boost you whole bodies strength (abdominals help big time) and combine that with plyometrics and endurance. But basically this sums it up best.....

They're sprinters! Running the 100m or 200m is easier with muscles than running over a long period of time, eg. a basketball game, they could easily get more tired out than a thinner long distance runner.

I agree that you need to keep your legs slim for speed, quickness and even leaping. Not too slim but find a medium. Excercises which work your fast twitch fibres help. (or whatever it's all called it's been years since I learned this stuff in highschool.) Plyometrics, skipping etc. I dunno about weights.
I have friends/team mates who have bigger, and you would thing stronger legs, calves, etc, but can't outrun or out jump me. Just looking at the way one of my friends runs, you can see he's carrying a bunch of un-necessary weight in his legs... :?

Yeah, toned muscles. :) In sprinting, the most important part is the explosion from the blocks which requires extremely legs...in cross country, you don't want extremely strong legs like that because the muscles are bigger and need more oxygen, hence making you tired after greater distances...I was lucky and had really strong legs, but they weren't that big....I used to be able to squat just under 250 and about that on the leg press as well...

But yeah, you do want a happy medium, which is why I'm saying tone your legs. Do more reps and less maxes on weight machines, and then also do the running with kicks at the end. Plyometrics also help a great deal. Also, losing unneeded weight would also help...

why is it that this topic says next to it 'moved' when it actually hasn't been moved, all that has happened is that it has been cloned into another forum?

There's an option in phpBB forums to leave a "shadow topic" in the old forum. That way, the person who created the topic is aware that the thread hasn't been deleted, it's been moved elsewhere. Opening the shadow topic redirects you to the new location.

but what i don't understand is why don't you do what you do, except maybe delete it from the forum where it doesn't belong after about 10 days of being listed as 'moved'. it just makes no sense to me that it being in 2 forum'z for eternity

Yeah, that's feasible. But to be honest, it's never really been considered a problem before, which is why we don't delete the shadow topics.

Plyos would be things like skipping for heigth and distance, goose stepping, running so your feet hit your ass, strides, I think running backwards...did I forget any? I haven't done those for about 5 years now....
