Help, Image Quality changes. Anyone?

Sorry if this isnt the right place to post this.

When i try to post a screen thats been saved under Jpeg and try to post it it loses alot of quality. When it was on Bmp, the type Fraps saves it as. It looks perfect. Why does this happen?

I upload it with imagetrail. If that helps.

actually.... jpg is better because it is less space.
could it be that it looks bad cause nlsc is resizing your image? because there is a width limit of 600 pixels.

How do i resize the images?

you use photoshop, gimp i've heard works too. fireworks as well

Ive got Elements 4.0, but i dont know anything about using photoshop.How do i resize my screens?

I had Gimp, it's nice and free, but the UI was too hard and there isn't as much support for it. Besides, if you have a friend who has Photoshop you can get it for free... or other ways.

To resize go to image and image size... choose the parameters that fit the signature limit.

Image>Size>Image Resize, I think. What he meant was that although it looks small on the NLSC, it's actually not; if the image is bigger than 600 px wide then it's auto-resized on the page, but you can click on it to see it at the original size.

Thanks so much for the help Cable Guy & Axel. Ive never used Photoshop before so i was quite confused. I have a few more questions.

1) How do i put a border on my images?
2) Is there a way to make image quality better?

Borders are easy, depending on what you want. Basic borders, like the one on my sig, are made by creating a new layer, selecting the entire image (Ctrl+A) and then going to Edit>Stroke and stroking whatever colour you want. For a sig, don't stroke more then 2 pixels.

Image quality depends on two things, 1) the quality of the original image, you can't make a pic bigger and expect it to have the same quality; and 2) what kind of file you save it as: .jpeg or .bmp for pics with people (beware that everytime you open a .jpeg you lose quality, it's got to do with the image being compressed and decompressed), .psd for a file with layers, .png for a file with transparency, and .tiff if you want to have the best quality for, say, a digital camera image. As a rule, the better quality of the image, the larger the file will be.

www.good-tutorials.com has all the information you need. When I'm not making signatures I browse the website there for different neat effects that i might put in my next work.
