Can Mavs win the champ next yr with this new lineup?

Postby Skip 2 My Lou on Mon Jun 02, 2003 6:09 am

According to rumors in Hoopshype.com, Mavs may attempt to trade Van Excel and Avery Johnson for Jermaine O'Neal and Austin Croshere from Pacers, and also the Mavs may use the 4.9 million exception to sign Alonzo Mourning. If Mavs do all of these trades and signings...
The lineup for next yr will be amazing!~~~~~
C Alonzo Mourning
PF Jermaine O'Neal
SF Dirk Nowitzki
SG Michael Finley
PG Steve Nash
In my opinion if they trade away 3 bench players from the list below for a decent free agent...like... Corey Maggette or Gilbert Arenas....
The Mavs will be a beast in the WEST!~
Bench:
Raef LaFrentz
Walt Williams
Eduardo Najera
Tariq Abdul-Wahad
Popeye Jones
Austin Croshere
Adrian Griffin
Raja Bell
Shawn Bradley
Evan Eschmeyer
Antoine Rigaudeau

That JO for Van Exel trade will never happen, I don't know about the cap restictions on it, but there's no way Indy will pull that trade, especially when they have Tinsley, who's good enough to be their starter for the time being.

Indiana is not happy with Tinsley.

But I don't think they'd want to replace him by trading away Jermaine.

O'Neal's going to get a hard look from the Spurs, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Spurs inked him to the max. Right now, it seems like the Spurs want either O'Neal or Karl Malone in their lineup next season.

As for Zo...I can see him taking an exception deal with the Lakers to play the PF position beside Shaq. If that's the case, the Lakers will be back on top next season.

Very interesting stuff...i dont see o'neal fitting in with the mavs offence..so imo..bad trade.

Malone on lakers: although i dont like malone or the lakers...sweet trade for both parties if it happens. It would be nice basketball watching them play and voting for them to loose at the same time
. :)

malone will no way go lakers coz he is a leader, kobe is a leader, shaq is a leader... how long did it take for kobe and shaq to work things out??!!

malone wants to go to dalas, thats one of the options,
O'neal trade might work coz 1. Indi needs vet PG 2.if they dont trade they will lose him!!!

why in the world would the pacers trade their franchise player J.O. for nick van exel? no offense to nick that is...

i think the mavs have a better chance of getting Zo, or the mailman... besides it wouldn't work out having four 20point scorers on a team; nash, dirk, finley & oneal.

Zo, or mailman would fit perfectly with the mavs: they'll be getting 13 to 15 points per (or more depending on minutes), 8-10 rebounds, block shots, and the inside presence both offensively, & defensively that the mavs need.

only way pacers would trade oneal, is if they got dirk, or even nash + finley, or van exel + finley? but who knows, anything is possible?
