Mark's Knicks Dynasty::First Month Recaped [2/2/06]

Postby Mark. on Wed Feb 01, 2006 1:02 pm

I'm going to do this Dynasty on the side of the Conference Battle one. I'm planning on presenting it in a similar style to X's, in that it will just be monthly info, with maybe one or two games reacped, but even then it wont have that much info, im planning on getting pretty far into the future with this one.

It may not be updated as often as I would like, but the Conference Battle will take priority, so this will only get attention when I have the time and motivation.

Anyway here are my settings:

 Season Length: 29 Games
 Sim Q Length: 12mins
 Play Q Length: 12mins
 Intervention: On
 Sliders: A hybrid of lots from these forums, and my own preferences.
 Skill Level: All Star, I should be ready to make the move up to Superstar soon though.

I will post Rosters etc this evening (Y)

this should be good....as you know I wanted/actually did a Knicks' dynasty but DBF problems stopped it, which I'm actually kind of glad of, considering Blazers is working out well (Y)

all I ask for in this dynasty is the success & development of David Lee....you can trade away the whole team for all I care, but please develop Lee 8-) (Y)

Actually, your lucky, cos i just made a trade at the end of November and the other team was really interested in Lee, however I think I managed to get something to work where i didnt trade him, I dont think I would have done the trade if id have to give him up, hes pretty good, altho i dont know how they play him at SF in real life, hes got no outside game at all, I think hes gona have to be a fulltime PF or maybe even some C to be effective for me.

this is the Knicks we are talking about, they used to play a PF by the name of Charles Smith as a SF....they have a habit of doing that for some reason....

I'd probably say play Lee at PF for now, but try to develop his outside shooting so he can be a Kurt Thomas-like baseline jumper threat....one thing's for sure, Lee's great on those offensive boards....who needs the JYD when Lee is around 8-)

also glad to hear you didn't give him up in that trade

Good to hear your back with another dynasty of your own.
I like playing with the Knicks cause there young and basically every trade you do in NBA LIVE can be realistic .
Make some trades and do well with them. Give Ariza playing time (y)

Yeah I have found him to be effective on the offensive glass, hes gonna need some training for the Mid Rangers though

Yeah Ive made a trade, and I thought it was pretty realistic, not sure if it was the best one to make, but I think it works for me.

Oh dont worry Ariza is getting plenty of PT, he starts most of the time, and plays well, i think hes aveaging 2 blocks and 2 steals per after 3 games. Hes quite effective at PF if I need to go small ball

Ah thanks for noticing that, im not gonna change it tho lol, cant be stuffed changin the Gif.

Game Notes

Nov 3rd:
Knicks win in season opener
Stephon Marbury teamed up with Jamal Crawford to lead the Knicks to a 104-93 Victory over the Kings. The Knicks stunned the Sacramento crowd from the word go, taking control of the game and never letting the lead close to les than 4 points. The Knicks used a 31-21 3rd quarter effort to give a 12 point lead going into the 4th.

Marbury and Crawford poured in 23 and 22 points respectivley, Marbury added 12 assists and 5 steals.
Ron Artest tried his best to keep the Kings in the game with 23 points and 7 rebounds.

Nov 4th:
Suns = 1 Q-Rich = 0
The Knicks fell 3 points short in their first home game of the season, losing 106-103. The Suns destroyed Richardsons hopes of getting the first win against his old team. A clutch 3 from Leandro Barbose with 15 seconds left gave the Suns the win. New York tried to answer, but Richardson missed on his 3 points attempt.

Marbury and Curry kept the Knicks alive with 22 and 28 respectively,
However a balanced attack from the Suns, led by Marion's 21 and 16 was too much.

Rumors

Change is in the Air

It has been clear since the season started that moves were on the horizon. With the overload of Bigs on the Knicks roster, and more simply the performance of some players. GM's around the league are supprised that a move hasnt been made yet, and expect to see one by early decemeber.
Word has slipped that there is a deal in the making wtih Atlanta, possibly involving Josh Childress and an un-named player from New York. The players most would expect to be shipped would have to be Maurice Taylor or Malik Rose. However some young talent may have to be included for teams to take ont he hefty contracts of these Vets.
Nothing has eventuated yet, but we can be sure that a move will be made soon.

Each month, depending on the amount of games, I will write a recap for 1 or 2 games that were set to be good match ups, or I thought were rather outstanding

Knicks win first home game over Jazz

Utah Jazz 96 @ New York Knicks 120

Larry Brown said the Knicks played the most scrappy game of basketball hes seen in a long time, yet they still managed to come out with a huge win, says a lot for the Jazz doesnt it?

Image
Nat Robinson Scored his first NBA 3 pointer during the first quarter

New York shot a horrid 7/25 during the first quarter, yet still managed to be trailing by only 3 going into the second. From then on the Knicks managed to shoot a bit better, outscoring the Jazz by 11,6, and 10 in the next 3 quarters respectively.

Stephon Marbury scored a game high 31 points, but played terrible throughout the first 3 quarters, at one stage having shot 3-12, however it was in the 4th where he sealed the game for good, scoring 18 points on 8/11 shooting and 2/3 from down town. For the game Marbury also recorded 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals, while commiting 7 turnovers.

Trevor Ariza who has been surpassing expectations so far this season, scored 17 points and pulled down 14 boards to go along with 4 steals and 3 blocks. Rookie Nate Robinson scored 11 points in 16 minutes including 2 3 pointers.
Gordan Giricek had a good game for the Jazz scoring 28 points on 10/18 shooting.

Image
Ariza had a great all round game

Coach Larry Brown, while happy with the win, was not happy with the teams performance; "We cannot afford to play like this for the rest of the season, we have been lucky in our wins this season, we need to play with more structure. Some players need to consider the choice of their shot attempts..."
It was clear that the last statement was a stab at Stephon Marbury, who shot 11/31 and was forcing some very questionable shots.

Each month I will give out "awards" for who I thought was the Player of the Month for the team, who had the most supprising month, and also the Dunk of the month. In this section I will also recap the teams overall performance.

Player of the Month
Image

While Stephon's decision making was questioned after his performance in the latest game of the season, he is still the main reason the Knicks are above .500 this season. Marbury averaged 25.3ppg 4.3rpg and a league leading 9.0apg and 5.0 spg. Those are not only great numbers on this team, but also MVP type numbers for the whole league. Dissapointingly Marbury was robbed of the East POTM award by Jermaine O'Neal.

Supprise performance for the month
Image

Trevor Ariza was thought to be a project with lots of potential, however since he as been given a starting job, he has played past all expectations.
Starting in all 3 games this season, Ariza has averaged 13.7ppg, 9.0 rpg, 2spg and 2bpg while shooting 48% from the feild. Its not only his stats that tell the stroy though, he has been a big motivator for the team, providing a lot of Hustle and Fire especially on the defensive end. Look for Ariza to be a possible candidate for MIP this season.

Dunk of the Month
Image

November 3rd, @ Sacramento, 1st quarter. Coming off a high pick Nate Robinson penetrates into the lane, getting double teamed, he appears to turn back out of the lane, but then supprises everyone by evelvating straight up for the double pump slam, what makes it amazing is he did this with no run-up in traffic!!

Overall Performance

The Knicks ended the month of Novemember with the 4th best record in the East and 2nd best in the Atlantic. None of the players really dissapointed although new comer Quentin Richardson couldnt seem to find his shot, shooting 21% from beyond the arc, however he made up for that by showing that he has a great slashing game as well. Another new comer Eddy Curry may not have dominated as much as hoped but still held down the fort in the paint well, averaging a double double with 16ppg and 10.3rpg, also shooting 58% from the field.

It will be interesting to see how they cope in december, with an inevitable trade looming and having to face Eastern Conference Rivals in 5 out of their 7 games.
