The Denver Nuggets played their second game of the season at the Pepsi Center at home, the fans were excited to see their first look of their Nuggets for the 2006 season. The game started off pretty even with Carmelo Anthony dominating and Andre Miller was dishing out the assits. The Spurs were playing very well and Parker was playing at his best. Kenyon Martin and Tony Parker were the players at the half and the spurs led by 4. The spurs opened the 3rd with a 14-0 run it soon silenced the whole arena and got the Nuggets to motivate themselves. Andre Miller combined with Marcus Camby completed a spectacular alley-oop play which got the fans screaming, Denver then had a surge and got the score closer. Spurs closed out the quarter winning. George Karl was happy with the game but disapointed with the loss. Denver played really good in the 4th but it was enough to get them the victory and San Antonio claimed the win.
Carmelo Anthony finished with 29 points and 4 rebounds for the Nuggets. "I didn't get much help from my team mates tonight thats really why we lost, we didn't execute like a team". said Anthony on tonights game. Nene played well off the bench again getting 10 points and 8 rebounds. Denver lacked help from other players who usually put up big numbers such as Kenyon Martin and Andre Miller, Miller got 12 assists but only 5 points.
Tony Parker led it for the spurs getting 27 points and 6 assits. "I just had one of those nights i guess, i did anything to get that W. Parker has been playing pretty average as of late and is not one of San Antonio's top players right now. Manu Ginobli finished with 21 points and 3 assits. Duncan played well despite his lack of points he got 9 boards, 2 assits, 3 steals and 2 blocks. "I didn't really focus on points tonight i just played more on defense, Duncan had to watch quick PF Kenyon Martin who has been playing at all-star level as of late. "he's a good player, he was awesome with the Nets and is turning out to be better with the Nuggets" said Duncan.
Greg Popovich was happy with the spurs performance and he also credit George Karl on turning this team around. "I think hes done a great job with these guys so far, i mean our team is full of all-stars and Denver has maybe 1 or 2 in Camby and Anthony and they managed to come into 3 points. I wouldnt be surprised if we lose next time we vs, they are a tough team, look out for them." George Karl laughed and and thanked Popovich for his comments. "It's great to hear one of the best coaches in the league give you compliments, i look forward to playing the spurs again. I feel we could of played more as a team tonight but Carmelo stepped up and i am happy with his performance. The Nuggets play the Clippers next look out for Corey Maggette when he takes on Carmelo Anthony.
