Sixers announce late pre-season trade

'In an effort to finally find a player who can take some of the organizing and game control duties away from Allen Iverson as well as serve as his primary backup during the few minutes AI has to sit on bench, the Philadelphia 76ers announced today that they have reached an agreement with the reigning champions San Antonio Spurs. This deal involves the immediate tranfer of Slovenian sophomore point guard Beno Udrih to the Sixers in exchange for rookie 2nd rounder Louis Williams and forward Matt Barnes. The teams' respective GMs were approached for comments soon after the trade was announced:

RC Buford - SA Spurs: "We believe that Philadelphia's offer benefits the Spurs as an organization and covers needs both present and future. We are sad to part with Beno and wish him all teh luck in his future endeavors. We were very high on Williams and pondered using our first round pick on him instead of Ian (Mahinmi), and we believe that he wil devemoip into an excellent player for this franchise in the future. Barnes will cover the gap of backup Sf after Glenn's (Robinson) departure."

Good trade, Beno Udrih becomes a great shooter.

I think you kinda gave up a little bit for Udrih. Louis Williams is a project and Matt Barnes could be pretty good if he got decent burn off of the bench.

Williams is great, dunno why you did that trade. He can also play PG...

don't worry Weaver, I understand the trade....Udrih has shown glimpses of his talent and is definitely more ready than Williams to contribute at each player's stage in their career....you were after a steady hand who has the chance to be a key player in your rotation....

of course losing a prospect like Louis Williams hurts (I consider Matt Barnes a cap filler so he is insignificant in this trade, it's essentially Louis for Beno straight-up), but I like the move

Well, she does look a bit Eastern Block, doesn't she? We actually had our share of fun some time ago when we posted her pics on a matchmaking site and pretended she was 'Svetlana' looking for a 'gree card' mate in the US... You can't imagine the kind of e-responses we got!
