Pacers Training Camp

Indianapolis. IN

October 21st, 2005

It was that time of the year for the Pacers, training camp, where players improve and prove themselves worthy of playing time on the Pacers. The main man of training camp was Ron Artest. Everybody wanted to know how much he had improve over the Summer on his break after receiving a suspension from the league due to a brawl in Detroit, MI. But that's hopefully in the past now, and with key new editions in rookies Danny Granger and Sarunas Jasikevicius, the Pacers camp looked happy then ever.

Each of the new coaches coaching time were set.

Ron Artest showing coaches that his defence has not declined one bit

Rick Carlisle was extremely impressed with Tinsley's improvement in shooting this past summer as his shooting is much more reliable.

Image
No doubt that Tinsley wants to become the 2nd scorer behind O'Neal this season

The franchise player, Jermaine O'Neal spent most of his time improving his rebounding. Look for him to be a huger force in the post this up and coming season.

Other player improvements included:
David Harrison improved his rebounding, toughness and quickness.
Danny Granger improved his stealing, strength and free throw shooting.
Austin Croshere improved his blocking ability.
Eddie Gill improved his dribbling and quickness.

The only player not to attend training camp was Jonathon Bender who has been battling injuries for the past few months. He has been in rehab the whole summer which isn't going according to plan. He's contract ends in 2 years but he may be dealt before then. The final addition to the team was 9 year veteran Samaki Walker, he has helped the squad with his experience and is quite an asset in the locker room.

Look for the Pacers to rise in 2006, I have a feel everyone's happy in the team and time will tell if this year can finally be our year, where we can hold the trophy and dedicate it to the most loyal Pacer of all time, Reggie Miller.

Yours sincerely, General Manager, Larry Bird.

Thanks.

I've gone with a more diary type thing but still like a short NBA recap style. I don't know what I'm doing, I'll do whatever feels right but is readable.

I like Fred Jones, and about Bender, I might use him as a trade filler.

CMJ wrote:Good Luck, Keep Artest

Nah, I want to trade him, but just have to wait, cos in real life, he demands trade around December and it's only November.

The X-amus wrote:good luck....looking forward to the life and chronicles of the rookies, Granger & Sarunas

Yeah I really like Granger and Sarunas is a not bad shooter.

I don't think Kobe would like to be traded from his beloved Lakers.

Thanks for the comments guys, after I watch Napolean Dynamite, I'll play my first match

Pacers survive last quarter Heat surge to win

November, 1st 2005

Boxscores
Indiana Pacers | Miami Heat

Miami, FL (Ticker) Rookie Danny Granger scores 19 points and Ron Artest scores 17 as Pacers prevailed against Conference finalists, Miami Heat.

This was the comeback game for troubled Ron Artest after being suspended by the league for a brawl in Detroit 11 months ago. Unfortunately, the Pacers had to face the Miami Heat in Miami, the Shaq and Wade led team who made the Conference finals last season.

The First quarter saw Jermaine O'Neal get struck down and injurying his arm but he managed to shake it off and play again in the second half. An Artest lead run saw the Pacers taking a 10 to nothing lead as Dwayne Wade was put into early foul trouble. Even with Dwayne Wade out, the Heat managed to get themselves back within 3 points to end the quarter. Ron Artest was living up to the hype with scoring 8 points. David Harrison and Shaquille O'Neal had a blocking fest, swatting 3 shots each. However, the second quarter belonged to the Pacers as they hit 9 out of 9 field goals in 6 minutes of play to get themselves out to double-digits. The young couple, Granger and Harrison, combined for 16 points that quarter as the Pacers outrebounded the Heat, 10 to 5.

The 3rd and 4th quarters saw Jermaine O'Neal trying to make amends of his earlier injury, pulling down 8 boards and scoring 8 points but that wasn't enough to stop the Wade-lead Heat from making a comeback. They managed to get within 5 points in the 3rd but the Pacers finished that quarter ahead by 10 thanks to a buzzer-beater from rookie Granger. The 4th quarter saw Shaquille O'Neal combine for 16 points as they got within 3 points in the final minutes but a Stephen Jackson lay-up sealed the game for the Pacers as Jasikevicius and Croshere hit their free throws to win 94-87.

Bottom Left: Shaquille being his usual self Bottom Right: Granger had an excellent debut with 19 points despite playing only 9 minutes

Ron Artest after the game, "Well, it's always great to win your first match. And it's even better when you're there actually playing the game rather than on the sidelines"
Rick Carlisle, "We were running lots of plays for rookie Danny Granger and he scored off each play, it was great to see the young guy stepping it up in his first NBA match"
Pat Riley, "I suppose it's a new season, lots of new faces, the guys aren't used to each other yet. I'm sure we'll meet the Pacers in the play-offs and match their game."

This is the beginning of a 5 game road trip which continues tomorrow against the Boston Celtics.

Thanks, I hope you like the recap.

Guys, I really like my new recap style, even though it's a copy off the NBA's. It's much easier to do than before's style. I like having a lot less pictures and the video will be up soon, damn maintenance.

Glad to see you are starting another dynasty Jugs. Hopefully Artest can keep his head screwed on straight and he won't have to be traded. :P

Danny Granger scored 19 points in 8 minutes. That's awesome, be sure to give him plenty of PT.
