Stan Van Gundy Resigns as Head Coach

The Miami HEAT announced today that Stan Van Gundy has resigned as Head Coach due to personal and family reasons. HEAT President Pat Riley will assume head coaching duties immediately. Van Gundy will remain with the HEAT as an NBA free agent evaluator, while also assisting the team in other projects.

Riley joined the HEAT as President and Head Coach on September 2, 1995. He guided the HEAT to a 354-270 (.567) record with four Atlantic Division championships and six playoff berths in his eight seasons as the team’s head coach. In addition to ranking as Miami’s all-time victory leader, Riley ranks third on the NBA’s regular season all-time list, compiling a 1,110-569 (.661) career mark in 21 seasons as an NBA head coach with the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Miami HEAT, and second on the all-time postseason list amassing a 155-100 (.608) mark. A future Hall of Famer, Riley has led his teams to four NBA championships as a head coach, eight conference championships and a league-record 16 division championships. He is the only coach in league history to capture the NBA Coach of the Year Award with three different teams and his string of 19 consecutive playoff appearances as a head coach from 1982-2001 is a league record for consecutive postseason appearances. His 19 total appearances is tied for the most in NBA history. Additionally, when he won his 1,000th regular season game on November 1, 2000, he became the fastest coach or manager to reach 1,000 wins in the history of the four professional sports in North America, bettering the previous mark held by Fred Clarke of the Pittsburgh Pirates by an astonishing 144 games. Riley recorded his 1,000th win in just his 1,434 game. Riley currently stands as the all-time leader in both regular season and postseason victories for both the Lakers and the HEAT. Riley stepped down as head coach on October 24, 2003.

Heat announce TWO trades!!

After the Miami Heat signed new general manager Shaun Callahan, he made two trades. One was relitivley small, the other will turn the Heat into either a great team or alittle bit weaker. Lets take a look at the first trade which involved the Atlanta Hawks:

Image

The Heat mainley did this to free up some cap. They traded Doleac whos salary was 2.64M over the next 3 years and Shandon Anderson whos salary was 1.04M for this year only. Take alook at the player comparison:

The next trade will most likey change the franchise. In all honesty is was a smart trade. Heres what it is:

Image

Your probally thinking, Oh my God we got KG! But we lost Shaq. Then again KG is 3 and a half years younger. The Heat traded away a total salary of 22.1M and recieved 23.96M, thats the only bad part. The total salary from Minnesotas Garnett, Hassell and Maden equals 101.8M. The TWolves recieved 103.1M. Take allok at the comparisons:

All in all, we think that the Heat got a great deal. Shaq is going to be missed, but the Heat have to do whats best for the team.

nice trades, GO KG

Mon Jan 16, 2006 2:09 pm

haha youth routine
maddog is still a freak

Mon Jan 16, 2006 2:10 pm

good trades....I'm really liking that everyone seems to be making an effort to have fair trades....the 1st one is a pearler....Hawks were desperate for a big like Doleac so they took on the $$$'s and you got some deadweight....my only concern with the deal is that you traded your starting C with the very next trade....how's the depth looking at C now?!?

the Shaq trade was fair and if both sides were disgruntled, it wouldn't be out of the realms of possibility....Wade-KG combo is nice....

Mon Jan 16, 2006 2:20 pm

Bosh4 + Cyril

Thanks guys, KG is gonna be SICK

The X

YEa fair trades are good. I kinda liked the Donta Smith trade, I think he'll have something to offer in 2-3 years. My C depth is weak, I will admit. I might start KG @ C IDK, Im gonna do a depth Chart later on Ill let you guys know

April's a good month, only 3 weeks rest and 3 tough teams to lead up to the play-offs including against KG's old team

Thu Jan 19, 2006 1:21 am

It's better that you got KG for Shaq...

Shaq's rating will drop every season

go Garnett! 8-)

Thu Jan 19, 2006 3:24 pm

Jugs

Yea I like April the most. 3 weeks off, 2 rivalry teams (Detroit and LA) then against Shaq and Minnesota. Then playoffs.

Jasikevicius3

Definatley. KG will help alot. Shaqs shitty FT shooting and older age leaves for a more athletic just as threatful as Shaq in KG. Shaqs rating will definatley drop yearly. KGs will probally hiy 99 for a season then slowly decline.

imo i wouldn't put Hassel in the IR, he is a great defender.
