Are white people afraid of black people?

Mon Jan 09, 2006 12:55 pm

Well, after going to a pretty much all white school and then reading Slam magazine where someone who was hatin on the dress code said "WHITE AMERICA IS AFRAID OF BLACK PEOPLE", in caps, I started wondering. This would answer some of the racial stereotypes too. Black people are labeled as thieves, murderers, etc. Also when I hear white people in school refer to us (blacks) as "thugs" I kinda wonder what they think a thug is.

Now I think I've been around white people enough (16 years or so) to have a semi-decent idea how they think about some things. From what I've heard, black people with du-rags, sagging pants, and big shirts get the stereotype "thug" or "gangster." That's like me labeling a white kid in American Eagle and Abercrombie a prep or something like that. That's just how we/they dress these days.

Then there's the racism. I'll take Riot's T-Shirt hell example for instance. The one that said "Arrest all black babies before the become criminals" or something of that nature. Well, is this fear to a point where black people are just labeled criminals all of the time?

I know that black people don't fear white people, well not as far as I know. I'm sure that if 4 black guys walked up to a white guy he'd get pretty nervous, but if 4 white guys walked up to a black guy it probably wouldn't matter much.

But I don't know, you guys tell me...

Nahh black people are awesome. They just got stuff that white people cant do. Like rap and get a normal sense of clothing. Not some of that prep shit. White people reffer to them as "stupid" and "never going to get anywhere in there lives". Some people these days are still racist but fuck them. And yes white people are afraid of black people, and actually most of them. Even if you know you can beat the shit out of them every white guy knows that the black dudes got like a shitload of backups waiting in da hood.
Lastly Fuck the haters, blacks rule.

Where did you see that?

Well I remember my Economics teacher (old white lady in her upper 50's) was saying she saw one of her former students at the mall one day and he was with a group of guys and they were dressed in that "gangster" type clothing. She got real scared because they start walking up to her and she didn't even know who they were, but when the guy said "hey mrs. pickens, how are you doing" she relaxed and she knew who the guy was  I think its more of the older generation thats scared of black people, the younger generation growing up isn't as scared and the fact that most of us grow up in schools together and things like that.

Judging by my experinces in the places I've lived, I think it depends on what kind of neighborhood and community it is. When I lived in Brentwood, a mostly minority-populated town, no white person I ever met was ever afraid of someone because they were black (same goes for Brooklyn without saying, although I lived in Ben Sty, and there weren't any white kids). I also used to live in Commack, an all-white rich school district. The answer there was yes. People were afraid of me ever since I moved there, before any fights or anything. There was even a mother who didn't want her kid hanging out with me just because I was black. She thought I would get her kid involved in weed or something (ironically, he's now a pothead).

White people are scared because of sterotype, but then again, a lot of black peopel don't like white people. not saying all Im just saying the ones in North America and maybe Europe and I dunno.

Well not liking is different than being scared of. There's reasons like racism number 1, lol. But I dont think the majority of black people are afraid of white people.

If they're wearing police uniforms, then hell yes I'm afriad of white people.

XD
this is interesting i feel like i've seen this before

whos the dude that said
"i'm not racist, i hate everyone equally?"
sometimes i agree with that

Am I afraid of black people? No. Am I afraid to insult and piss off strong, crazy ass black people? Yes.

I'm more afraid of arab people than black people. Trust me, my racist jokes at school are more pointed at the arabs than the black people these days.

That's no better :|

Well, black people to a certain extent are stereotyped as "gangsta" and stereotypes are derived from truths (most of the time). If I see a black person dressed up as a "gangsta" with the baggy pants, big shirts, one jean leg rolled up to his knee, a bandana and a bit of jewellry, I might be inclined to feel intimidated. If it was a black person in a business suit, or dressed differently from the "gangsta" image, then I wouldn't feel intimidated.

Now this applies to the other side of the coin, if it was a white person dressed as a gangsta, I'd feel intimidated in the same way.

But aren't you and Legend good friends?

Mon Jan 09, 2006 2:14 pm

 He doesn't dress gangsta. He might joke about it or act like one for fun, but as far as looking like a gangsta, naw, not even close.

Mon Jan 09, 2006 2:25 pm

I'm not afraid of black people but I can see why some people would be in general... like young-ish black guys dressed up like gangstas and whatever.

They bring it on themselves entirely. You only have to look at something like SLAM magazine... 99.9% of the black players they feature are standing there with their heads tilted looking like they've had the worst day of their entire lives and they want to hurt someone, this however in their minds is "cool". The white players, some of them pose like idiots but others just smile. (Some) Young black kids like projecting the image that they're mean and tough and people should be scared of them.

I remember when I was in LA I walked past some guy who looked about 19, dressed like your a-typical gangsta rapper and he gave me this really weird stare, I didn't know whether he was checking me out or trying to telepathically tell me to keep away from him because he'd kick my ass. What's the point of this? Apart from trying to look tough. If there's any fear directed at black people (young black people mostly) it's not ignorance or racism, how would you feel if people WANTED you to be scared of them? I think regular everyday black teenagers probably suffer because certain others in their age group want to be seen as gangbangers or whatever.

Mon Jan 09, 2006 3:25 pm

jae should go to harlem 8-)

Mon Jan 09, 2006 3:25 pm

When I get out of the military I'm going to be a cop in Compton, right Mafia?

Mon Jan 09, 2006 4:14 pm

around here, those that dress like "gangsters" ARE criminals (and dole bludgers). No stereotypes here.

Mon Jan 09, 2006 4:33 pm

anyone i see is neither black or white i don't diferrentiate people by their colours

Mon Jan 09, 2006 6:04 pm

Lol, my 'friend' is color blind and he says that everyone looks green to him, but all slightly different shades of green. It's fun messing with him, like telling him he's wearing a hot pink jacket or stuff like that... but anyway...

I'm white. Am I scared of all black people? Hell no. Sure, if I was walking in some dark back alley by myself and a group of angry looking black people approached me, I'd be scared, even if it was a group of white people I would still be scared.

I'm not more scared of an average black guy then an average white guy or average chinese, japanese, east indian, native, asians, mexican, etc. The color of someones skin doesn't make them more scary then someone of equal build, look or whatever that happens to be a different color.
