how to get better at basketball?

Sat Jan 07, 2006 6:41 am

I need tips on how to get better at the ol' B-Ball.

I played with a bunch of kids in GYM today, and I realized I'm not as good as I thought I was.

So I need some tips on better (mostly defencively) because this kid thats maybe upo to my shoulders scored 8 points and went 4/5 on me today and that REALLY brought down my ego.

thanks, tips are apprecieated.

(playing again monday so hopefully these tips will help me (Y) )

BTW- I think theres a topic that covers this alreay but Im mad lazy

Contest every shot don't get lazy.

Hm, I'm the best perimeter defender in my team and you want to know my secret? Follow one guy everywhere he goes, everywhere, because i'm well conditioned, kinda, i can follow my opponent all day and he'll get pissed off....

Offence, I'm the worst shooter on the team  so I can't help you there.

Just follow him and play though :) Contest shots, keep your feet moving, and cut his dribbling hand.

That should already help.

If you're as conditionned as me (not at all), you should try to see what his weaknesses are, and play with them. ie: If the guy has no jumper, give him more room. If he can't blow past you, play at half your usual distance. If the guy gets the ball down before shooting (ie he goes from his knees to launching the ball instead of just having the ball over his head then launching), try to swap the ball while it is going up.

lol I was gonna mention that...

With Finals MVP Chauncey Billups

god I hate those commercials on NBA TV

they also got a Magic video out... it features Melo, Kareem, Rip, Kenny Smith, Amare, Diana Taurasi...

and a new one just came out from Lenny Wilkens.

but all those drills they show you I did in high school... you really don't need to buy any videos to get better

Best thing I can tell you is just to practice, after a couple months if you practice fairly often you will see a difference. I noticed a big difference in my shot after spending the summer shooting most days.

Sat Jan 07, 2006 9:37 am

jep practice.. and also try my technique.. i play here at home in a small rim due to the lack of space but i play with a normal ball so its hard to make baskets, then when i play at the normal baskets is seems very easy!!

I could send you 'Fundamentals of Basketball' where MJ himself gives some advices about pretty much every aspect of the game,if you are interested that is.

Sat Jan 07, 2006 9:44 am

Not spending so much time on an internet forum would help. (Y)

Sat Jan 07, 2006 9:44 am

I don't really get what you mean ^^, but I guess I'm lucky because I have enough space on my driveway to draw the NBA three-point line and a bit more, it made it easy to practice.

EDIT: I mean felix

yeah but there's a club very near to my house so when i want i just go there and play

and what i meant is there there's a space left here at my house so i just put a basket rim there for me to play.. and since its small it makes it easier when playiing on the big ones..

Run a lot, get used to running a lot so you won't get tired on defence or offence. Practise foul shots and jumpshots, just keep practasing.
