Here's my first Photoshop sig... I had been using PSP for a little while.. I cut out the pic of dwade and then used a pre-cut for Shaq (odd, there aren't many pics of him with Miami

)

It's pretty good but the text is plain (but better than nbalive744) but it doesnt make the sig badder....
And I don't like the black shadow on the players
Other than that, it's pretty good

I like the background... the cutting on Wade isn't bad but it isn't good. It seems like you used some sort of blur on the edges which never works out well. I quite like using drop shadows, but if you are gonna use it make sure either the opacity is low or the slider things are adjusted so it's not so dark... it's also a good idea to only use drop shadowing if you're gonna have 1 graphic. Trying to do it to both doesn't work too well. The text isn't bad either.
I think pre-cuts are the way to go personally. It saves alot of time and effort and you can concentrate more on other parts of the sig without spending all the time on cutting the player out.

I used bevel on Wade to make it appear 3D, not blur.
Here's the cut... I had to sacrifice a lot of the image cause it wouldn't fit into the sig

not a bad cut man, but the weird white blur shadow around wade isnt taht good... perhaps rid of that. but the drop shadow is fairly nice

How's this? I changed from an emboss to inward bevel.. I think this does a better job making it look like Wade is coming out of the picture (and i think that would look nice since he is rising up for the dunk)
I really wanted to get a picture of Pat Riley and put it in the middle... couldn't find a good one though

I really think bevelling player pics is a bad idea... use the drop shadow feature if you want them to look like they're coming out of the pic.

I'm going to tell you to ignore the last thing Jae said. Basically don't use any layer style effects on player pics (bevels, shadows, glows). A good way to get a player to stand out is to use duplicated layer effects. Go to the stickied tutorial thread and check out the brief one I did.

Thanks for the advice Colin. I'm busy reading through all the tutorials (esp the masking ones). I'll make another sig in the next few days if I get some time.. I'm a fairly slow worker though.

That's better than pumping them out every 15 minutes without revising them. The one that's currently up in my thread had 5 different versions.

Meh I use drop shadows on most of my stuff. I prefer the way it looks as long as it's done properly. Sometimes it just looks plain with a flat pic.

Yeah, as Colin said, just drop the bevels and I think your pretty damn good for a first timer.

As for the Ray Allen one, not bad. Not a bad idea, but by using that idea you've made the sig very monotonous by having the only colour other than green that bit of yellow in the logo. Normally I would say to keep your colours in and in variance, but starting off it's a good idea to focus on using one colour and adding the various elements one at a time. For now here's a BIG tip: use a curves adjustment layer. Go to layer-->new adjustment layer-->curves, and make the curve look something like
this.

That Ray Allen sig is really nice, 7 hours is a lot, great job on putting the effort in, you obviously aren't lazy.

thanks everyone... and thanks for the tip Colin, it fixed a problem I had.
I was going for a monotone sig, kinda got the inspiration after a friend showed me a monotone painting she made. Turned out ok, i think.
