Sonics Fall in Season Opener

Image 106 Image 84

The Seattle Supersonics simply had no answer for Elton Brand the Los Angeles Clippers as they opened up the regular season with a blowout loss to the Clippers.

Sam Cassel and Elton Brand dominated the offense as Brand grabbed 22 rebounds with several offensives to give the Clippers second chances. Sam Cassel added 27 points and 5 assists.

The Sonics' scoring leader was without surprise Ray Allen who notched 27 points of his own and Rashard Lewis followed with 16. Luke Ridnour had a disappointing night in the assist category with only 3 but was able to net 10 points in the loss.

The Sonics were simply outdone by the Clippers in every way. They were manhandled on the boards and shot poorly from the field. The Clippers however shared the scoring with 4 out of 5 starters hitting double digits in points.

bad luck on the loss, you got owned on the rebounds for sure, hopefully you will get better later on.
You might need to sign a center to help you out...

You're completely right, help is needed down low and I'll do my best to improve that weakness so that we're not outplayed like this.

Thanks Thierry, I'll do my best.

I wouldn't be surprised since that happens more than a few times in the NBA. Brand just took advantage of our weaknesses and left most of the scoring to Cassell.

Thanks Shaun. And it's console, I'm playing the games on XBox.

Thanks. And you're right, we're going to have to rely on the play of Ray and Rashard throughout the season, they are the leaders and we have a lot of young players.

Peterson Boosts Raps with Late 3

Image103 Image105

"Heartbreaker" would be the word to describe this game for the Seattle Supersonics. Coming into the game looking to get to .500 against a team who sits near the bottom of the standings.

The Sonics got off on the right track and had control of the game for the most part. Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis were big factors as they combined for almost 50 points.

Jalen Rose of the Raptors however was able to keep Toronto in the game as he seemed to be the go-to-guy in the early going. He finished the night with 17 points and 7 rebounds.

Reggie Evans and Ronald Murray had solid games coming off the bench for Seattle with 6 points each and Evans added 5 rebounds. As for the Raptors, two of their point guards Jose Calderon and Alvin Williams stepped up with 14 points combined.

But the big story came in the 4th quarter as the Raptors were starting to make a comeback. Chris Bosh dominated down low and Morris Peterson continued his hot shooting.

Near the dying seconds the Raptors were able to take the lead but it didn't last long as Ronald Murray was able to drive and score a huge bucket to put Seattle up ahead by one. Then as the Raptors seemed to be in trouble, Mike James found Morris Peterson at the three point line and Mo-Pete put up the rainbow as Ray Allen had a hand in his face. The ball came down and went in and the crowd began to cheer with their team up by 2.

The Sonics called timeout and went back on the floor with what would be their last possession of the ball game. Ronald Murray tried his luck again as he drove by the Raptor defenders and put up the shot which was up and no good. That ended the ball game as the Raptors stole one from the Sonics in Toronto.

Sonics Key Player Stats

Ray Allen- 33 Points|6 Rebounds|3 Assists

Don't worry, I'm sure I'll put one up there soon. :)

Yeah but Allen was majorly fatigued and Murray had a nice lane and was able to do it last time so I went with Flip.

Sonics Roll Along with win at New Jersey

Image83 Image73

The Sonics shook off the heartbreaking loss to the Raptors as they continued their trip through the Atlantic with a win against the Nets 83-73.

It wasn't a high scoring affair as the defense was tight and the shots weren't dropping but the Sonics will take it.

Ray Allen led all Seattle scorers with 24 which was matched by guard Jason Kidd who led the Nets in scoring. Rashard Lewis also had a solid night with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson completed the trio domination of scoring with 15 and 16 points, the trio combined for 55.

As mentioned before, this wasn't a high scoring affair but the Nets' big men Nenad Krstic and Cliff Robinson didn't seem to mind as they combined for an impressive 31 rebounds with Krstic grabbing 18 and Robinson pulling down 13. The Nets' backcourt was also active on the boards as Kidd and Carter combined for 19 rebounds.

The Sonics won the game tonight but they were once again dominated on the boards as they can't seem to find a consistant big man down low to grab boards and give the Sonics the edge down low. Johan Petro was placed on the Injured Reserve and Danny Fortson is their new starter and he was able to get 5 boards in tonight's game.

The Supersonics will face the Celtics and Bulls before returning to the West to face Sacramento but the big question remains to be their rebounding and their play down low.
