then they relise allen iverson went 5-25 and shutup

its good to see they care about the game.

and man oh man, arent so many people jealous of the lakers success

I couldn't be bothered looking further back... stop acting like it's only the Lakers that get smack. I won't even bother looking up all the posts that claim Kobe is the best or whatever on unfundamented arguments, you'll probably say they're crap or edited or whatever anyway. Which leads me to the greatest reason people dislike the Lakers: their fans are so damn ignorant. Any Laker fan wil disagree with this, any other basketball fan will most likely agree. And no, I won't get into another stereotyping discussion here...

Good example.
Let me tell you this: why would someone have a discussion about something when they think they're wrong anyway? Think about that.

So? It was discussed in those cases as well. And Michael isn't my boy, what makes you think that? Unless you mean Michael Bradley, who's going to pan out next season, but I can't remember him crying at a basketball game.

The thing is, you are wrong sometimes, but you never admit it, and like i said, its very annoying.

If you arent a fan of Michael Jordan, you never would of had that michael jordan banner in your sig, you know, the one where it said "if wizards dont make playoffs, then the 8th seed should give up there spot"

just admit it for a change, you're wrong

Yes, so I asked where was I wrong? The thing is, I don't argue about things where I know I'm in the wrong... it would be a waste of time. And then people find out they're wrong, get off topic, start calling names and be annoying and the topic gets locked.. I bet a few of these about the Lakers' loss will get locked once Andrew gets up as well, he doesn't seem to like discussions that go deeper than:
My example wrote:"I disagree"
"I disagree with you disagreeing!"
"OK, let's agree to disagree"

But well that's ok it's his forum.

Laddas_KB8 wrote:ok...................i told ya so to that we are sick of it

You fail to see the point. I already said in my post that Laker fans would disagree with the statement, I thought that would be enough for you to go past that one.

That's..forbidden? Oh no! Maybe.. just maybe.. maybe I know what teams/players I support just a wee bit better than you do? And maybe that banner was started just a whole big joke anyway? (Oh and admitted, to annoy a few people) Just ask the other people that sported it.

I guess people don't like the Lakers because they (used to) win

your wrong right there for starters

lakers all of a sudden dont win anymore, coz they didnt win 4 in a row.....makes no sense

well when someone puts something like that there, its a common thing to assume that they are a fan........for the record???? who is your favourite p layer?

Man can't we like get our own thread where others don't have to bother going over these uninteresting debates where nobody else participated anyway... :P

No what I was saying was that people often root for the underdog, not the winner, the winner in this case being the Lakers. Had I not put "(used to)" there people that like "playing with words" would've put a magnifying glass on that and said stuff like "haha they didn't win the spurs series now did they"

Laddas_KB8 wrote:well when someone puts something like that there, its a common thing to assume that they are a fan........for the record???? who is your favourite p layer?

It might not be common, but possible I guess. If you couldn't understand from the banner's content and the threads about it that it wasn't serious, I guess you could've thought I was a fan of Michael Jordan.
My favourite player doesn't seem very relevant in this discussion to me.

Oh did you watch the news before game 6? I think it was channel 7, KABC. Well the newscasters were interviewing Laker fans, guess what they did or acted? One idiot has a minivan in Laker colors, smoke pipes in the front, on the side having 4 NBA trophy stickers on the side of his van. The newscaster asked him about that and he said.. "I had the 4th trophy on there when the season started. I had it on before the Playoffs even started. They're going to win their 4th. We're the Lakers, we can't lose.." That's ignorant. That's arrogant. You know why there are lots of hating going around with the Lakers and their fans now?

Then on ESPN (SportsCenter), it showed last year's Laker victory parade with Shaq. He said they're going to win their 4th, win the 10th title for Phil. Tell the crowd to put up 4 fingers. Doesn't he feel stupid now? Anyone who saw that (I know most did), would be laughing their ass out because it was the most funniest thing ever

How is saying they will win a 4th straight any different from guaranteeing that they will win a 3rd? which they did, I dont get it, if that is stupid of them to say/do than every NBA player who has made a guarantee is stupid if it failed, which I guess they are?

to all you bitter laker fans: just take it.

don't complain why we don't mention derek fisher crying as much #8 crying (i think they still are. i could see fisher flopping/crying in his sleep and bryant watching tape of the bulls losing their game 7 to the pistons so he can cry like mike), or pointing out AI, carter, or any other nba player cried, etc.. this just makes you sound even more bitter.

the rest of us non-laker fans had to sit here and listen to your 'intelligent' and 'logical' posts all year. so why don't you guys back off and just take it.

the spurs were the better team. the lakers had their run. congrats. enjoy the long offseason

"oh kobe went 5-21 last night, see he aint all that good."

A lot of people don't like Laker fans because they're fake...they're fairweather fans. Most of them, anyway....look at all the stars that appear in Staples on game nights, just to be there. Half of them don't even realize there's a game going on, and then throw in the other ignorant fans (such as the guy with the van), and you have a team with millions of fans who don't care about the team and don't know any other players than Phil, Kobe, Shaq, Rick Fox (because of the hollywood connection), and Robert Horry (Because he saved their asses).

Why are Laker fans annoying? Because they have no idea who Brian Shaw or Janero Pargo or Mark Madsen is. They don't know the strengths and weaknesses, they just know "their team" has three rings, Shaq, Phil, and Kobe, and that they're winning.

The majority of Laker fans are the epitomy of band wagoners except they're ten times more arrogant. Bulls bandwagoners were NEVER this bad. They always say "I've been a Laker fan for so many years" as if we care how long they've been a fan...if they hop on the bandwagon and are intelligent about their team, learn about it, accept other peoples views in discussions (I'm talking non-internet here), and aren't dicks to everyone (several people on this board are great Laker fans (Y)), then they're fans, no matter how long they've been following the team.

Back to the reasons people dislike the Lakers; my dad hates the Lakers because he thinks Shaq's a bully and that Kobe is a sandbagger. He loves Derek Fisher because the kid has heart (I don't mind Fisher, he DOES have a lot of heart), but he hates the Lakers because they aren't the way they used to be. They aren't the unselfish finesse players of Magic and Kareem and Wilt, they aren't the same as they were. As Dan said, that's another reason people didn't like the Lakers (although I don't think he meant this): there's a lot of people who don't like the Lakers from the Showtime days, the Celtics and Pistons and Bulls (the end of Showtime, but Showtime nonetheless) fans.

If you think about it, the Lakers fans then were similar to the ones now: movie stars, bandwagoners and what not. Granted, I'm going a lot on what my dad's said, but I don't know why it'd be so different now; history repeats itself. Lots of people probably weren't huge fans of the Lakers and fans back then either for the same reasons now, and those are carried on.

What bugs me is that many Laker...how was that put, anti-Laker sentiment?...many people with Anti-Laker sentiments are lopped into the 'hater' group when they aren't 'haters' (hating for the sake of hating?), but have legitimate reasons for not liking the Lakers much.

I don't like the Lakers because I don't like how they disrespect the other teams and don't give credit - even when they lose. Yeah, they said something about this game, and Kobe I think was totally sincere, but what excuses can you make for a blowout like last nights? None, all you can say is the other team played better, which is what they did.

I don't like Kobe Bryant. He's not my favorite player, blah blah blah. However, if you guys recall, I was the one who was criticized heavily when I said Kobe would average over 30 points per game this season (along with McGrady) and would surpass Jordan in a few years. I was harshly criticized for those statements, even though Kobe did what I said with the points and is looking to do that as I said in the next couple years. I'm a hater, though, even though I give respect to Kobe where it's due...

The same goes for Shaq...but no one wants to read any longer. I don't like the Lakers, I don't want them to win because I like the Spurs better for their fundamentals and guards (I mean, Ginobli and Parker are gonna be so special in a couple years) and defense, and I wanted them to win because of that whole asterick by their championship bullshit started by Phil (who I do hate).

However, I don't HATE the Lakers. I'm not a hater....but anyone with Anti-Laker sentiment is automatically a hater (even if you state a fact like "Kobe Bryant turned the ball over 7 times. He wasn't taking care of the ball" - HATER!!!!). I think this causes people to dislike the Lakers and Laker fans even more, because they're frickin' annoying! Not all, of course. :)

Anyways, whoever actually read that...sorry, kinda rambled...hehe...

My example wrote:"I disagree"

In my defence, it's not that I don't like or wish to discourage debates that don't follow that pattern - it's just that so many discussions degenerate into flame wars when people don't see eye to eye - hence, the discussion starts to violate guidelines and a good topic is ruined by unnecessary insults.

I think Shane pretty much summed up why there's anti-Laker sentiment. It's also important to note that the sentiment is usually directed at the prominent Lakers - Phil Jackson, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal - not the whole Lakers squad (is there reason to hate Kareem Rush? Of course not).

Like Shane, I don't like the way Phil and Shaq disrespect their opponents. It might be an old fashioned way of thinking, but when you escape a 7 game series that was close, up and down throughout, saying your opponent was never a threat and mocking their name by calling them the Queens, it's not admirable behaviour. In a league that has seen heroic performances and at times remarkable and touching signs of respect, that kind of arrogance and bad sportsmanship is almost sickening.

It's human nature to react the way some people have. When someone is as disrespectful as Shaq has been since last year's Western Finals, when someone boasts that they will win basically just by showing up (in not so many words), when someone displays a certain level of arrogance, it's not unnatural to take pleasure in watching them fall flat on their face - at least if you're in the opposing camp.

I can understand/see where people are comming from, from both ends of the argument here, but sometimes you just have to say "fuck being diplomatic". When you have Laker fans referring to the Kings as the "Queens", when Kobe is "the greatest of all time", and when Kobe has 9 40 pt games and MJ all of a sudden has 8 (which is not true) then a Laker fan is obviously just waiting to be flamed when the Lakers lose. Don't act all innocent Laker fans, some Laker fans deserve it. I actually think a lot of people have held back so far and restrained themselves. After three years there's a lot of build up "hate" just waiting to come out. Anyone who has been here a while, just remember back to the Drespn/Marlon/etc days. How badly did you want to give them shit?

*Deep breath*
