Will all of these help the Raptors to go back to playoffs?

Tue May 06, 2003 1:41 am

Assuming, the Raps signs coach Silas.
Then trade Alvin Williams and Montross to Cavs for Ricky Davis.
Then, trade Mo Pete and JYD to Warriors for Jamison and Foyle
Assuming that if Raps draft Lebron James. The team will look like this:
C A. Davis
PF A. Jamison
SF R. Davis
SG V. Carter
PG L. James
Bench:
C M. N'diaye / A. Foyle
PF J. McCoy / M. Baston
SF L. Murray / C. Jefferies
SG V. Lenard
PG L. Hunter / R. Alston
How deep is this team goin to be? How far can they reach if they are in the playoffs? Can they play together? Is the chemistry good?

If they had this team the chance was pretty big yes, but they wont have this team so their not. I dont think the Cavs want to give their leading scorer for Williams and Montross, same for the Warriors. And the the NBA draft is still a time away so you dont know if LeBron will play there (chance is bigger that the Cavs will get him).

if the raptors have a roster like that next year they not only would reach the playoffs, they also would be the nba champions but i doubt that those deals will happen

What a big team lineup it would be !
BTW, it won't happen, I agree with Kobe4MVP......

This is about the only thing in your post that makes sense to me. Let me elaborate:

jc0127 wrote:Then trade Alvin Williams and Montross to Cavs for Ricky Davis.

Doesn't work under the cap, Alvin Williams alone makes too much to be traded straight up for Davis. Also, I don't think Cleveland would consider this trade unless they got LeBron James, Williams could compliment him pretty well, but you assumed the Raptors would pick James.

jc0127 wrote:Then, trade Mo Pete and JYD to Warriors for Jamison and Foyle

Another one that doesn't fit under the cap, you do know of the existance of the cap do you?
The only reason I see GS do this is to dump contracts. Jamison has turned into a leader for them, and they don't have any need for JYD. They could just play Fortson if they needed rebounds. Jerome Williams and Montross for Dampier and Welsch sounds nice to me, but even that would be a stretch, the Warriors wouldn't look forward to JYD's long contract. Could replace Williams with Olajuwon of they really want to get rid of some contracts.

This isn't a very likely assumption given their small chance at landing the #1 :) But it can't be argued there is a chance so let's assume for a moment.

N'Diaye is very likely gone, same with Lenard and I hope Hunter.

I don't think they'd be title contenders the first year, but could very well grow into a title contender as James develops. He won't be the saviour everyone makes him out to be straight away, if he'll ever become that. Also, I think he'd be better as a point forward, not handling the ball all the time. I think there are too many players needing the ball in this team, and some would have to put their ego aside to make it work, but I guess it could. IF this team would ever get together, which it won't...

it is a nice team and they would go far in the playoffs, but as Dan & kobe4mvp said it just wont happen.

Tue May 06, 2003 7:18 am

in the lineup you mentioned...the c and pf will get dominated by most big men in the league...plus niether bench center is good enough (or tall enough) to stop top league big man

plus the jamison trade will never happen

Tue May 06, 2003 8:24 am

As everyone else said, it's not hapening. However I thought I'd share a link with everyone Alvin for Davis?

Tue May 06, 2003 12:32 pm

well...the williams trade makes no sense why would the Raps, who already have two great scorers in James and VC want to trade a great true PG for Ricky's offensive score 1st game...

my raps lineup

trade Mo-pete and Davis for any good tall center (deke, zo, ratliff, etc...)

and have this lineup

Center
JYD (much more defensive presence than DAvis....and D is just what the raps need)
VC
James
Williams

James being the MJ style player can easily be playing SG because i'm pretty sure that he'll get what i can the "Mj mania" which is a mental decapitation in which you seem to forget you have teammates on ffence for a while...a terrible sickness for PG...Ivy was showing signs so they moved him to SG right away....

plus williams has already established himself as one of the best PGs in the league right now....great 4th quarter player as well....good leader, etc....

Tue May 06, 2003 4:46 pm

what the raptors need to do is trade mo-pete for jamaal magloire and then draft carmelo anthony.

then they will have a lineup like this:

C- Magloire
PF- Davis
SF- Anthony
SG- Carter
PG- Williams/Alston

great lineup IMO...

 Come on Pavel... Williams is a backup combo guard, not a great true PG. In the role of backing up both PG and SG he'd be great, now he's just sufficient he doesn't even get Vince the ball.

Sorry Pavel, but Rens is right....

That's an interesting team... from a cynical point of view, Carter would be out all year long, Jamison and Ricky Davis would squabble over shots, and Lebron is out of highschool, playing either PG or SG, he would get eaten up every night.

Well if he did get Vince the ball, it would be chalked up as a turnover pretty much every time :D

I think you're confusing Carter and Antonio "brick hands" Davis here Stevan :P
