Leandro a Laker: Lakers May Have Answer For the Point

Image
ABOVE: Leandro Barbosa is headed to Hollywood

7 Nov, Phoenix - The Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers agreed to a three player trade today. PG Leandro Barbosa will be traded to the Lakers in exchange for PF Slava Medvedenko and SF Laron Profit.

General Manager Will Sit finally looks like he is making the point guard rotation stronger for the Lakers although he admits, "Leandro isn't the best candidate to fill up our 1 guard spot but he does bring scoring to the table. Our initial aim was to get a playmaker but Barbosa has a lot of potential and he should do well." Barbosa who had fallen out of Coach Mike D'Antoni's rotation was becoming a non-factor on and off the court. The fiery Brazilian was on his first and final warning with the Suns after he punched teammate Steve Nash in the head during a training session. Nash was rushed to hospital and received 3 stitches to the forehead.

The Lakers only had to give away two of their bench players for Barbosa. Medvedenko, a veteran of Phil Jackson's system wasn't improving on his play from last season and Laron Profit's play has been limited. Profit who arrived in LA with C Kwame Brown from Washington just didn't adjust to the triangle offence. "It (Playing for LA) just wasn't what I thought it would be," Laron says, "They've (Lakers) got a great bunch of coaches, players and fans but it's not my type of team."

Barbosa gives the Lakers a solid scoring option on offense and although the lakers were looking for a jumpshooter, they will have to make do with Barbosa's slashing abilities. He is in his thrid NBA year after averaging 7 ppg, 2 rpg, 2 apg and 0.5 spg in just 17 mpg last season. He started 6 out of 63 games for the Suns.

The Lakers have started the season with back-to-back losses and play the Suns in their next game, which is also their first home game of the season.

Nice trade Sit, it's time to see Barbosa shine

Thu Nov 10, 2005 8:38 pm

wow whatta trade! really good pick up, its good that your able to trade some of the unproductive players...unlike in my dynasty

Thu Nov 10, 2005 10:18 pm

Great trade Sit and you made the right choice! You now have the answer at PG, this should be a breakout year for Barbosa, can't wait to see him in action.

Thu Nov 10, 2005 10:32 pm

you gave away Laron  ahh well, hopefully he prospers in Phoenix....either way, I think you should slot Barbosa straight into your starting lineup....I'm expecting good things from him (Y)

It was a good pick up that you got Barbosa, but I would have liked to see Smush get some minutes after seeing what he is capable of doing in real life.

Barbosa Trade Falls Through
Lakers Looking For Answers Elsewhere

9 Nov, Los Angeles - Just when Laker fans were starting to anticipate for better days, the orginisation was hit with another punch in the gut. The original three player trade between the LA Lakers and Phoenix Suns was unexpectedly vetoed by the League office due to salary reasons that are undisclosed.

The Lakers front office was disappointed with the decision and immediately made a formal complaint to the NBA commisioner David Stern. "You cannot terminate this agreement on no proper grounds," Magic Johnson said on behalf of the team on national television.

Leandro Barbosa who had passed his physical yesterday afternoon was iritated with the announcement as he is to travel back to the Suns for training on the next day. "I guess I can't play for LA until the trade is cleared. I will play against them in two days," Barbosa stated before boarding a private jet for Phoenix.

It was anticipated that Barbosa would be a dependable scorer for the Lakers but on second thought, the team may be glad that the trade was intervened. Phil Jackson was one of those who was glad the trade wasn't processed as he said, "Leandro is a good, talented player but his skillset just doesn't fit our team's (Offense)."

Barbosa who was involved in an altercation with NBA reigning MVP Steve Nash seems to be welcomed back to the Suns for the time being with injured captain Amare Stoudamire coming out to say, "Leandro is an important piece in our puzzle. Once I return to the court, everything should become perfect for us. Trading him away is a mistake in the first place because Leandro isn't the root of our problems and he's certainly not why we are losing (Games) right now."

The two Lakers players who were originally thrown into the deal however made it clear that they didn't trust the franchise no longer. Slava Medvedenko and Laron Profit were both hit with fines after refusing to return and report to their team.

"We feel betrayed by the Lakers and since they didn't want us in the first place," Medvedenko stated, "We won't be back." The two players talked to General Manager Will Sit and made it clear that they wanted to be traded. Sit released the following statement, "The Lakers are currently trying its best to find a suitable destination for Slava and Laron to move to."

Team Captains Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom both reached out to their teammates and urged them to return. "You are both good guys and fun to work with, maybe we can work something out," Odom pleaded. Bryant added, "Maybe if you return, then you can prove why you shouldn't be traded away."

uh oh, it seems like a wrench has been thrown into your plans. I wonder what you have planned now?

Sat Nov 12, 2005 12:16 am

aww man...

and what will happen next ??

- If there's one player I ahte most on the Lakers, it's got to be Smush. I just hate it that everyone is so hyped over him after just 4 games... and then he does shit all in his fifth game. Although he's doing better than McKie in real life, I still don't like him.

Brad Feet wrote:by the way, got your pm that i won on the mvp voting and i replied to it..... and what's next?

- Basically at the end of this season, there will be another draw where I'll will pick out three names and I will add them to my dynasty. This means that since there are 29 games, you have another 27 chances to get into that final draw and maximise your chances of getting into the dynasty.

Sat Nov 12, 2005 9:26 am

boo, no trade... ah well.
get mcinnis or maybe u already have him lol

Sat Nov 12, 2005 11:51 am
