game tied with five seconds left..

Mon Nov 07, 2005 8:18 am

here's a scenario, say you play for a highschool basketball team. score is tied 100-100 with only five seconds to go and you have possession. would you drive to the basket or try to get a jumpshot?

personally i would go for a jumpshot simply because i'm not that tall (5'8 and a half) and i got a couple ways to get my shot off. i think if i drove i'd either
a.) get stripped
b.) throw it too hard off the glass
c.) get blocked

anyone else?

I trust my jumpshot , but I would drive and try to draw a foul. "act" like i got hacked , go to the line , shoot my freethrows , miss them both , and then cry.

Nah i would drive to the basket, thats what i do normally

I'd pass it

Drive then pass.

Yup, you got it (Y)

I would pull up for the jumpshot AT the 5 second mark and if I miss then the big men will have an opportunity to tip it in off a scrap play.

I'd drive to the basket where six options could happen:

(a) score a layup
(b) draw a foul
(c) get the basket and the foul

(c) get blocked
(d) get stripped of the ball
(e) lose the ball and get a turnover

Assuming the last three doesn't happen, either one of the first three seems smarter than taking a jumper that might just miss under pressure.

I dunno why (B) turned into a beer , but it cracked me up.

Mon Nov 07, 2005 8:57 am

I'd run off crying before the final play went into play. That much pressure & me? Right...

I'd try to drive and if I didn't have an opening, I would shoot it with 3 ticks elft... just to make sure if I miss, it goes to OT.

Mon Nov 07, 2005 9:10 am

I would go for the lay-up, although my jump shot is my best skill, I cannot create it by myself. (N)

I would drive in and do something acrobatic.

Mon Nov 07, 2005 10:34 am

LOL acrobatics  ...

I'd take go near the freethrow line, but 2-3 meaters to the right, then I'd pump fake, jump into the person and release my shot. OR... Id do pick and roll and pass it. Or i could always do the "THree-man Weave" (Not sure if anyone knows that play, but if I had to inbound at my end Id probably do that or get a pick and take a jump shot.

Mon Nov 07, 2005 10:43 am

hm.. i actually had that happen to me. I just stepped out and made a 3 cause i was a good 3 pointer shooter back in like 9th grade. lol

Mon Nov 07, 2005 10:53 am

Drive the lane, jump stop, pump fake, get someone in the air, jump and get shoulder to chest contact, try to finish, get the free throws.

Mon Nov 07, 2005 11:08 am

I never get the ball in crunch time so I couldn't tell you.

But if I did, I'd probably do some amazing crossover and do a windmill dunk on all 5 guys.

Mon Nov 07, 2005 11:11 am

The few times I've been given the ball with a few seconds left I just shoot it. I've hit 4 from 6 buzzer beating 3's in my time (Y)

Mon Nov 07, 2005 11:45 am

the thing i hate about driving the ball is getting stripped. with the people i play with, if it's 5 on 5 for some reason people don't like to spread out. i've had scenarios where i was ontop of the key with one guy guarding me and everyone else clogging the fucking paint, making it impossible to drive. if the lane was open i would probably drive.

Mon Nov 07, 2005 12:36 pm

I consider myself as a slasher. So in that case I would drive it in. Although I wouldn't like to have the ball in crunch time.

Mon Nov 07, 2005 1:09 pm

I'd either dribble the ball off of my foot when driving, airballing the shot, or pass the ball to the opposing team. I'm the perfect guy to go to in crunch time. (Y)

It totally depends on the defense and the way the ref has been calling the game.

Personally, I would take the jumper, I'm not good and taking hits and still getting the bucket to go, plus refs aren't likely to give you much, they don't want to be scapegoats at the end of games, so they tend to swallow their whistle.

I sculpted my game after Reggie Miller's my whole life, how could I not try and win on a jumpshot :).

You mean you never want to win a championship?

(Sorry, couldn't resist. )

Actually, my traveling team won the championship in the summer after 6th grade, but I was on the bench in the 4th quarter, maybe that should have been the pacers strategy all along... :D

Your Reggie Miller impersonation wasn't accurate enough. I'm sorry Indy you'll have to retire from basketball forever, or decide to sculpt your game after Ron Artests...
