Suns Loss Thriller at Home!

Phoenix hosted the Dallas Mavericks and The big 7 footer Dirk Nowitzki to kick off the 2005/2006 NBA season and what a good game the fans were in for.

The Suns started the game with a 6-0 run thanks in large part to Amare Stoudemire. Stoudemire scored 6 straight points including an in your face dunk on Jerry Stackhouse, he also helped hold Nowitzki to 0 points in the run. Nowitzki came alive late in the quarter and helped spark a comeback for the Mavs who went on their own mini run but it wasn’t enough as the Suns closed out the quarter with a 5-0 run and took a 5 point lead in the 2nd quarter 20-15.

Image

The Mavs took the lead early in the 2nd after a great start by Josh Howard and Jason Terry wielded 8 points to the Suns 3. Shawn Marion had a very quiet 1st quarter scoring 0 points and pulling down only 1 board had a mini break out in the 2nd scoring 4 points but it was his defense that helped the Suns. Marion recorded 2 blocks on Nowitzki late in the 2nd quarter to help the Suns maintain a 6 point lead heading into half time 41-35.

Image

Jerry Stackhouse exploded in the 3rd quarter after going 0-6 in the 1st half he was 3-3 in the 3rd quarter and also recorded 2 steals and 2 assists. Keith Van Horn chipped in scoring 7 points and recording a block on Stoudemire in the dying seconds of the quarter. Dallas outscored the Suns 26-14 in the quarter James Jackson was 0-5 in the quarter and Shawn Marion was 0-3 the only positive in the quarter was Brian Grant who scored 9 points.

Phoenix finally got he ball rolling in the 4th quarter going on a 10-o run with Steve Nash scoring 6 of his 9 points in the quarter and Amare Stoudemire 4 points to cap off the drive. Dirk Nowitzki who was held scoreless in the 3rd quarter scored 9 of his 20 points in the 4th including what would be the game winner a 16 foot jumper over Shawn Marion. The Suns found them selves down by 2 points with 22 seconds remaining and after a Jason Terry miss Steve Nash found Jimmy Jackson up court who had a wide open shoot and clanked it off the rim for what would be the Suns final shot of the game.

Final Score Mavs 80 - Suns 76

Let's see if the Suns can still dominate the Mavs like in last year's playoffs after all those trades and players they signed.
Are you starting James Jones just because just like him/dislike Kurt Thomas or are you doing it to try to keep the run and gun style like last season?

Name: Matthias Carter
Pos: C
Age: 23
Height: 6'11
Weight: 242
Potential: Good
Projected: Top 20
Scouting: Offensive
My Thoughts: A big body that could be a viable back up to Amare Stoudemire or possible even play center.

Name: Anthony Rishon
Pos: SF
Age: 23
Height: 6'9
Weight: 227
Potential: Excellent
Projected: Early 2nd Round
Scouting: Offensive
My Thoughts: Should be a solid back up.

Name: Thomas Yourba
Pos: C
Age: 22
Height: 7'0
Weight: 282
Potential: Excellent
Projected: Top 15
Scouting: Offensive
My Thoughts: Would be a great addition to any team and has the size and height to be a solid center in the League.

ImageSuns Trade for Ellis and Taft Image

The Phoenix Suns today have swung a deal with the Golden State Warriors in witch the Suns will receive rookies SG Monta Ellis and PF Chris Taft and the Warriors will receive 2nd year man SG James Jones and PG Eddie House and a 2nd round draft pick.

The Suns who have been looking for a big man and a shooter rang the Warriors and asked Chris Mullins about the availability of Ellis and Taft in hopes of landing one of them. Mullins was looking for a SF to back up Mike Dunleavey Jr and a SG/PG who could score some points and add a spark off the bench.
