Hey guys i just read the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.I wanted to know how many of you read it as well and your favorite parts. My favorite part was when Leigh was revealed to be the teacher and killed his manservent with poisoned cognac.

I'm not going to be reading this thread then I guess. I don't want to spoil the story seeing as I haven't read it yet.

There's already a thread on this, I believe. I read it, I enjoyed it, but it's surprisingly not well written. I found the myths and historical "facts" interesting and to some extent, thought provoking. I don't really have any favorite parts, but the story as a whole was enjoyable.

I read it and thought it was a horrible book. The page-turning suspense factor is the only literary technique he uses along the novel, making it blunt and monotonous.
I did not like this book.

Most of the people that I know that read the book told me they really liked it. I seriously wanna read it and see how it is.

Can anyone explain the basic concept

Read a few months ago followed by Angels and Demons. Pretty fun book. Althought the two book are somewhat too similar in style and plot. I like how he uses many historical facts and twists it a little bit. Looking forward to the movie

The main character, Robert Langdon, discovers secrets that the Church have been hiding from the populace for years. He learns that Leonardo Da Vinci is a part of a secret organization that knows these secrets. He sets out to learn more of these secrets.
Oh, and there is murder involved.

Its basically just that. The author just pieced up together some historical myths and mixed them with facts to make the whole plot interesting.
Oh, and there is murder involved.

I liked both the books, I read Angels & Demons before the Da Vinci Code, I liked them both, they're quite different from "regular" books.

I think Angels and Demons is a FAR MORE superior book compared to Da Vinci code. I do think they're pretty good though. However, after reading 2 of his books, I was able to guess the twists for the other two...Digital Fortress and Deception Point that is. (He purposely puts twists in every book it seems, which is neat I guess, but sometimes predictable.) So I have a feeling I might not like his future books as much. Who knows. Good book anyhow.

After you read one of his books, you tend to notice his formula. Still haven't read Fortress and Deception Point. The Sci-fi, spacey environment doesn't really appeal to me
Mon Oct 24, 2005 2:44 pm
Digital Fortress is good...although it's a bit more "nerdy" since it has a lot of computer terms.
Deception point is just ok.
BTW, those two books are set in the present I believe...Digital Fortress reveals a ton of scary shit about the NSA...
Mon Oct 24, 2005 2:51 pm
Lol. For some reason, I'm a big computer guy but I never liked science fiction
Mon Oct 24, 2005 10:35 pm
Tried to get into it, but it's just not my kind of book.

My mom wants me and my dad to read the book, but were too lazy. We got the special edition picture version of Da Vinci Code, and Angels and Demons. It's pretty thick, so I dont wanna read it

.
Tue Oct 25, 2005 4:05 am
It's a fast read, if you're wondering. It looks long because of the thickness, but the print is actually bigger than standard.
Tue Oct 25, 2005 1:52 pm
Yeah...the margins on the pages are pretty big too. Plus it's very straightforward although tends to describe the surroundings a lot
Tue Oct 25, 2005 2:52 pm
ive read the book...it was good...dont really have any other comments..
deception point and digital fortress are good...
now on a totally different topic..australians should read matthew reilly

not exactly lol. if you read 2 of his books, then you notice he follows the same forumla
i had read angels and demons before da vince code became popular. i prefer A & D. both books are the same, just substitute the names of the characters lol
Fri Oct 28, 2005 9:24 am
I preferred AD too, it stuck with me longer than Vinci Code did.
Anyone into James Patterson books? (Morgan Freeman starrers: Along Came A Spider & Kiss The Girls.)

Totally agree...Reilly kicks ass in the page turning factor.
And he writes without the thought of having his books turn into movies, so the action is BIGGER.
I suggest reading the Scarecrow series, starting with Ice Station - very enjoyable. Of course, some twists you can see a mile away, but others are just downright shocking.

The worst part of that watered down excuse of culture is that it started a fucking avalanche of mythical-shit-from-the-fornlorn-times kind of books that floods the bookstores.
A fifth book on how YOU CRAKK THE DA VINCI CODE?! My life is complete!
No, I didn't like it. Some of the facts was intresting, but the book is horrible.
Fri Oct 28, 2005 8:55 pm
I just got the book this morning, read 4 chapters now.. Kinda confusing.. But it seems to be getting fun.
Thu Nov 03, 2005 12:41 am
Done with the book! I don't really get the last part... So the Holy Grail is nothing?
Thu Nov 03, 2005 2:09 pm
You mix the grail with sand, and cement. Viola! You have concrete.
