is it just me or is heart problems have become more often in the NBA recently??

not only in the NBA, in soccer there has been a lot of people dying too, last year a player had a heart attack in the middle of the game anmd passed away.

That's true.. but it's a problem that happens a little more in basketball, in european basketball too.

About Collier... i hope he will be in the NSLC Roster, just to honour his memory.

Damn. This was real surprising once I looked at my hotmail account. I thought it was a fake but the link said it all. It's very sad to see anyone die, especially a young man. Condolences to the Collier family, his wife/daughter and Jason's teammates. I hope the Hawks play hard to his memory.

thank you. the dna test has nothing to do with this heart... jeez. i wouldnt take a dna in his situation either. he took the tests required, and the tests he took gav all the info on his heart condition. y the hell would he take a dna test? giv me a break

Jason Collier was a solid, underrated center. He could definitely play, seriously rebound and was a shotblocking monster at times. The hawks will miss his abilities as well as his presence. At 28 his best years were still ahead of him. His situation on the center-thin hawks was perfect for his development. Playing at the pro level can put a strain on the body, who knows what went wrong, but it shows we should slow down and enjoy life now.

...And try using him in nba live, and you'll be surprised how many rebounds he could come up with in a short time.

I hope the hawks retire his jersey, he deserves it.

they should do what ive seen other teams do when a team mate died but they werent superstars. They should wear a patch with the number of the player that died for a season or whatever time they want, but i think retiring their jersey is a bit too much. But there has been one instance that one player wasnt a superstar, they died and his jersey got retired. Some guy from the toronto maple leafs (yes im talking hockey now), think his name was bill barilko or something, he scored an overtime winner to win the stanley cup for them, that same summer, he was in a personal plane (not sure if it was with someone else), plane disappeared, didnt find his remains until 12 years later (kinda creeps me out). They retired his number even though he wasnt a superstar, though he did score a very important goal.

Yeah I'm all for them paying tribute in some way like that, the patch or something would be a good idea. I just think retiring his number is a bit excessive, and if anything would be an emotional reaction to a tragic situation.

The Timberwolves retired Malik Sealy's jersey #2 after he died in May of 2000. It has a very long lasting effect on a community when a guy who helps out with charity and is in the local community spotlight passes away so tragically.

Retiring his number would show respect to his family. The Timberwolves also wore a #2 on their jerseys for that season. I expect Hawks will probably do the same.

I can't find anything about Jason Collier doing things for the community... I'm assuming he did the general NBA things, Read To Achieve and whatever else. I hope they wear his number or something, but jersey retirement is just too much. It's supposed to be an honour for players who have excelled for a certain team to have their jersey retired, when really all they'd have to do is die.

Anyways I don't want to continue with this it's pretty disrespectful, RIP.

why? collier doesn't share the same condition that curry has.

shiva- if you had a medical condition that could possibly lead to your death, wouldn't you try and gather as much information as possible? and "the DNA test does have something to do with this heart". while the results may be inconclusive or give false positives, it's still information
