X CLIPPED WINGS

Long time Hawks fans might remember Dominque Wilkins leading the Atlanta Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals back in the day. They might remember Dominque and Larry Legend trading baskets, both men refusing to let the other claim victory. But those were the wonder years of the Atlanta Hawks, things are a little bit different now. It seems that the Hawks are known for only one thing now, and that's just not doing good. The Hawks are known for aquiring all-star type players who still can't lead them to a winning record, and then those players end up being shipped to another team. Remember a couple years ago when the Hawks aquired Rasheed Wallace from the Blazers? How many games did he play? One! And then he went on to win a championship ring with the Detroit Pistons. Now let's go back to almost a year ago when Antoine Walker was aquired from the Dallas Mavericks. Things were looking bright for the franchise but things still ended up horrible, and 'Toine headed back to his old stompin' grounds in Boston. Kinda makes you wonder if there's some kind of curse on the Hawks, you know what I mean?

X LETS RISE UP

It's almost time for the 2005/2006 season and the Atlanta area has more hope in the Hawks than they have in a long time. Last year, rookies Josh Smith and Josh Childress proved that the Hawks had young talent that would lead them in the future. Earlier this year the Hawks drafted Marvin Williams from the University of North Carolina. This foward has the ability to be a star player in the league and you should plan on seeing him alot. But maybe the biggest move this offseason was the trade that sent Joe Johnson to the Hawks organization. Johnson was part of the Phoenix Suns team last year that had the best record in the whole National Basketball Association, hopefully some of that will rub off on the Hawks. Johnson is still young and has yet to hit the level that we believe he can, you better look out for Johnson and the Hawks this season.

Salim Stoudamire Retires
November 1, 2005

Image

Salim Stoudamire was the first pick in the second round of the 2005 draft and at one point seemed happy to be in the NBA and happy to be part of the Atlanta Hawks. But on ESPN radio the rookie guard said "I'm done with pro basketball, it doesn't excite me anymore.". To the suprise of the Hawks organization and fans of Stoudamire, he announced his retirement and said he was going on with his life. "Alot of people will think I'm being selfish, but I've gotta look out for myself.", asked Stoudamire to the media. The Hawks and Stoudamire have both completed paper work needed and his retirement should be official in a few days. "We wish him the best of luck in whatever he decides to do.", said the newly hired GM Keith Brown.

Hawks discuss upcoming season
November 2, 2005

Image

As the Hawks finished up training camp, there was one person the media just had to talk to. That person was none other than Joe Johnson, the Hawks starting point guard. "I just didn't like how that situation was going, it's nothing against Stevie and the rest of the guys." Those words came from Johnson who demanded to be traded to the Atlanta Hawks from the Phoenix Suns. "Just like everyone is making a big deal out of what Salim did, the guy is just doing what he has to just like I did." Just a couple days after the shocking retirement of Salim Stoudamire, Johnson and fellow teammates showed no hard feelings at all.

Image

"All the pieces are falling in place and I'm ready to slam in someone's face", said foward Josh Smith with a smile. Smith said that he was looking to follow-up his rookie season with even more monster jams. "I'm looking to make a few posters but that ain't the most important thing, the most important thing is us improving our record". The Hawks have alot of young talent on their squad including the second overall pick, Marvin Williams. "We plan on starting him this year, our staff has decided to play small ball", said head coach Mike Woodson. "We will try Marvin at the power foward position and see how that works out, it'll help us get all our best players on the court at one".

Image

Woodson also was asked numerous times about newly retired Salim Stoudamire, and his answer was pretty much the same as his players. "Salim is a great kid and I can respect his decision, I don"t understand why the media doesn't". Woodson said he has high hopes for this team but he wants to take it one game at a time. "I don't want any of our players thinking too far ahead, we've gotta think about what's in front of us.", said Woodson on if he thought his squad could make the playoffs. The Hawks open the season against Joe Johnson's old team, the Phoenix Suns. If the Hawks wanna prove that they're serious about winning, the season opener is no doubt the game to prove it.

JJ and Hawks open season against Suns
November 3, 2005

Image

Tonight is the night that Joe Johnson heads back to Phoenix to face his old teammates. Johnson was picked 10th overall in the 2001 draft and traded to the Phoenix Suns, soon after he became their starting shooting guard. But this summer he decided that he didn't want to deal with the Suns organization and was then traded to Atlanta. Usually people would look at this game and say "Oh, the Suns are gonna blow them out!" but this year things seem different. Not ony are the Hawks overall improved but you better believe Joe Johnson is gonna carry the team on his back.

"It's just a regular game to me, I'm gonna go out there and give it my all", said Johnson on facing his old team. "JJ is like a brother to me and there's no hard feelings at all, we still talk on the phone", said all-star Shawn Marion. The young Hawks will be tested coming out the gates as they face a revamped Phoenix team. Joe Johnson and Quentin Richardson no long sport the Phoenix orange but there's quite a few players who came over during the offseason to help improve this team.

Phoenix will be looking to run of course and we'll see if the Suns can keep up. Another thing to keep your eye on is the fact that Marvin Williams who is a natural small foward will be moving to the power foward. "It's gonna be tough on me but even tougher on Al, he's gotta move to the center position!", said rookie Marvin Williams on the teams small lineup.

Atlanta Hawks (0-0)
C- Al Harrington
PF - Marvin Williams
SF - Josh Smith
SG - Josh Childress
PG - Joe Johnson

Phoenix Suns (0-0)
C- Amare Stoudamire
PF - Kurt Thomas
SF - Shawn Marion
SG - Raja Bell
PG - Steve Nash

The key matchup of the night is the battle at the point guard position. We'll see last year's MVP go up against his former teammate Joe Johnson, who will lead their team to victory?

I acually like the Hawks this year, JJ, JS, and MW. The thing about 2k6, Keaf dont you think the way they run up the court is exactly the same from last year? And there arms are long to. The way they shoot, is alright shot stick is neat but superstar mode is better, but the shot stick lets u hit runners, and up-and-under layups etc... The Presentation is unbelievable for the game, when it loads it does player intro's it does a kick ass Toyota Key Matchup thing. Its a good game, but the graphics only look GREAT when you see a replay or somthing, theres somthing about the game that makes Live better imo

Sun Oct 09, 2005 3:45 am

I actually think the animations and movements are improved from last year. I hated 2k5 because the players moved all horrible but IMO they fixed it this year.

The first game recap will be up probably tomorrow because I've got a fantasy basketball draft today. :D

Sun Oct 09, 2005 4:44 am

Good luck with your lineup of all SF's.

Sun Oct 09, 2005 5:46 am

Hawks don't have any size so that's what I've got to work with.

Sun Oct 09, 2005 5:58 am

hawks are nice in this game.. in a game against the pistons i got 32, 7, 7 from JJ and 18, 10, 5 from marvin williams

Mon Oct 10, 2005 6:16 pm

Tue Oct 11, 2005 5:30 am

I like the Hawks yellow Alternate Jereys I think they look nasty. I was playing 2k6 earlier. Its a good game, but I probally will start an Assosiation after Im bored with Live.

Isn't nasty something negative?

Damn internet lingo that reverses everything.

Guy: I'm gonna kill you.
Girl: Really? You love me THAT much? Wow! *gushes*

Tch, saddening.

Anyways, nice dynasty, it's a change from all the Live 06 dynasties + I liked the retiring, that was a nifty/smooth (which means good, not the reverse of that) thing.

Tue Oct 11, 2005 11:46 am

Nasty nah its slag for sick, and sick is slang for cool

Tue Oct 11, 2005 12:45 pm

If someone called me sick, I'd spit on them.

Wait, is spitting on someone considered...sick?

Tue Oct 11, 2005 2:27 pm

Wed Oct 12, 2005 11:07 am

C'Mon man I want an update  I think I might start a Celtic one in 2k6. Hey KEAF, I was just doin a sim Assosiation, how do you go to the trade menu to trade people. It was only letting me stay on the schedule part. Thanks

Wed Oct 12, 2005 11:11 am

Press either LEFT or RIGHT on the right thumbstick. Use the right thumbstick to navigate the menu too. Then, I believe you go to General Manager tab and it should be in there.
