Pre Game: Jazz vs. Raptors

Key Matchup

Chris Bosh vs. Carlos Boozer
These two young power forwards have come into the league not too long ago. Both have matured and are ready to make an impact in the league. Boozer was out last year for a large portion of the year with an injury. Bosh has been absolutely brilliant since the Vince Carter trade and has become the franchaise player. Bosh is definitely quicker than Boozer, but Booz has more help from his teamates in terms of defensive presense (AK47). Whoever wins this matchup may affect the result of this game.

Inside the Raptors

The Raptors are rebuilding and have added youth from the draft (Charlie Villanueva and Joey Graham) and free agent signing (Jose Calderon). They also have proven veterans to lead the team and a new face of the franchaise in CB4. The loss of Donyell Marshall is definitely felt as he was a key component of the Raptors. We'll see if the youth can step up to their potential this year and help the Raptors make the playoffs.

Inside the Jazz

The Jazz, like the Raptors are rebuilding right now. They have traded two first round picks for the number 3 pick and selected Deron Williams from the University of Illinois. Alot is expected of him this young rookie who played in the Championship game against North Carolina. Given that Booz and AK47 stay healthy, the Jazz can definitely be a team that could sneak into the playoffs this year.

Projected Starters

Raptors:
C - Pape Sow
PF - Chris Bosh
SF - Jalen Rose
SG - Morris Peterson
PG - Rafer Alston

Jazz:
C - Mehment Okur
PF - Carlos Boozer
SF - Andrei Kirilenko
SG - Gordon Giricek
PG - Deron Williams

*Note - I'm playing around with the center position as I stated before. I'll try to start Pape first because he gives me more of a defensive presence on the floor.

Heh, I see you're using Mafia's style for your previews, which I see nothing wrong with. Good luck against the Jazz man. Can't wait for the recap.

Raptors Stun Everyone

Toronto (CP) - It looked like an Allstar team against the Jazz when you take a look at the score.

But it was the Raptors blew right by the Jazz 153 - 104. Bosh lead the Raptors with a career night (unfortunately it doesn't count as it is a preseason game) with 38 pts, 13 rebounds, 4 assist, 5 blocks and 2 steals. Bosh completly dominated inside, and limited Carlos Boozer to only 9 pts. The Jazz front court only managed to get 13 pts but did pull down 16 of the teams 30 rebounds.

Another note was the Raptors defense. Surprisingly, they outrebounded the Jazz 49 - 30 (15 and 15 in offensive rebounds). They also limited the Jazz to 42 percent shooting from the field, althought the Jazz did pass the century mark in scoring. In doing so, they had to hoist up 114 shots to make 49. Deron Williams was their only source of offense, as he carried the team with 31 pts. AK47 was a non factor in this game, putting up only 12 points and got 2 rebounds.

On the Raptors side, everything was going their way. They shot a sizzling 69.1% from the field and shot 42% from three. They also got an amazing 45 assists, compared to Utah's 15. Rafer Alston lead the way for the Raptors, recording 14 assists and helped get 7 players in double figures. Rookies Charlie Villanueva and Joey Graham played extremely well, putting up 21 and 19 pts respectively. Sophomore Pape Sow played very agressive defense on the Utah front court, and put up 12 pts and 9 rebounds on the scoreboard. The Raptors also got to the line 19 times, compared to Utah's 6. The Golden Graham took 10 of those 19 free throws, hitting 9 of them.

After the game, Coach Sam Mitchell said to the media "I am definitely shocked at the score and I'm impressed with our defense. We were able to make them take bad shots and shoot below 45%. We were also able to get Andrei in foul trouble and limit his effectiveness on the game. I also liked how Rafer played, getting his teammates involved. I think he understands how he needs to play for this team to suceed. " Jerry Sloan, on the other hand, was not impressed. "We allowed them to score at will and we didn't contest shots. How do you get a team that's rebuilding to score 150 pts and shoot 69% from the floor? That's inexcusable. It doesn't matter if it's only and preseason game. We have to play defense and contest shots. We didn't make good decisions either, forcing up 114 shots. If we play this way in the season, we're going right to the bottom in the standings."

Toronto visits the Boston Celtics on Oct. 14th.

**I will increase difficulty from Starter to All-Star and adjust my sliders to have more realistic scores. It was my first game in Live 06, so I put the difficulty a little low.

Damn.... That's one hell of a good recap. You're really discouraging me from doing a Raptors dynasty now that I've seen how good your recaps are  ....

Great win and fantastic recaps!

Just wondering, are you going to fiddle around with the lineups for the next preseason game?

thx for posting and I think you should buy nba live 06. my score is before I edited my sliders and I was playing on starter. Once I edit my sliders and difficulty, you will see much more realistic scores. Live 06 is byfar the best nba live ever. Graphics, animation, by far the best. Don't let my unedited sliders and degree of difficulty I played in discourage you to not buy nba live 06. Buy It, it's worth your money (Y)

thx, and for fiddling with the lineup, I think I will, especially @ the center position. I'm pretty big on Pape Sow right now (even though it was only one game). He's a monster on the glass. He grabbed 9 rebounds for me in only 24 minutes of play, also scoring 12 pts. Araujo was great too, grabbing 6 rebounds in lk 18 minutes of play (I play 12 min quarters btw), so I still have to decide. I'll probably rest each started atleast for 1 game.

Raptors Acquire Mike James

Image Image

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. (CP) -- The Toronto Raptors traded temperamental point guard Rafer Alston to the Houston Rockets in exchange for guard Mike James on Tuesday.

The move comes after Alston, 29, was involved in several controversies last season. He threatened to quit the team and the NBA after a Dec. 3 game in Boston and was suspended by the Raptors for two games for conduct detrimental to the club after he walked out during a practice.

But Raptors general manager Rob Babcock insisted the deal had nothing to do with Alston's attitude.

``Rafer's attitude has been terrific, and he's worked very hard, learned a lot from last year,'' said Babcock. ``He had a great attitude coming in here, so that has nothing to do with it at all. We feel this is a basketball trade that addresses our needs for the future and our plan moving forward.''

Babcock added that the trade will save the team as much as $16 million US over next three years.

``Rafer still would have been a good fit for our team, but we felt this was a better fit and certainly gives us more flexibility down the road in regards to the cap,'' he said.

James has two years left on his contract. The Raptors signed Alston to a six-year deal in July 2004.

Mitchell wouldn't address last season's issues with Alston.

``We're moving forward,'' said the coach. ``We appreciate everything Rafer did for us, and he worked hard, he's a good guy and we wish him well, but we're in the business of trying to do things to help us improve as a team.''

The deal was finalized Monday night and Alston was informed Tuesday in St. Catharines, where the Raptors are holding training camp.

James was expected to arrive Tuesday night and practise Wednesday.

``Mike James is a positive player,'' said Mitchell. ``He's got playoff experience, he's played for some good coaches and we're looking forward to bringing him in.''

The six-foot-two, 170-pound Alston averaged 14.2 points per game in 2004-05 with 3.5 rebounds and 6.4 assists.

James is a six-foot-two, 188-pound NBA journeyman who has played in Miami, Boston, Detroit, Milwaukee and Houston. In 248 career games, the 30-year-old has averaged 9.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

* This trade was an actual trade done between Raptors and Houston on Oct. 4th, 2005.
**My personal comment on the trade: I like the trade for the purpose of the dynasty. Like GM Babcock said (me in the dynasty), this trade relieves some cap space in the future. Mike James is a very good defender so he will help with perimeter defense. One bad thing is that I loose a playermaker in Live.

I am intersted as to why you made the trade for James? I don't know if I will do the same in my dynasty...

Because it really happened and he wants to keep it original.

Sorry I did.. I hope I didn't let you down in terms of keeping all of this original. Well, it was an official trade, so I just kept the article "original" in that sense I suppose. But don't worry, I wont go to copying and pasting like Theirry Henry did for his dynasty

It's alright if you just take an article for a trade or something, and it happened recently so I don't really mind. If you go around just copying material off of a website then I would be pretty.... Unhappy about that.

Pre Game - Raptors vs. Celtics

Image vs. Image

Key Matchup

Charlie Villanueva vs. Raef Lafrentz
Charlie V. will get the starting nod for the second preseason game. He played very well against the Jazz on Wed, scoring 21 points off the bench. He will be matched up against Raef LaFrentz. Raef has the ability to take you both inside and outside, and also has a very nice 3 point shooting touch. Villanueva can also do that, stating that he can play all front court positions. Neither are very big post up players, so this will be a very interesting match up @ the center position.

Inside the Raptors

The Raptors have just blown by the Jazz on Wed. Oct 12 and are looking to keep those winning ways going, even though it is only preseason. As well, the Raptors have just sent tempermental point guard Rafer Alston in exchange for Mike James. James is a very good 3 point shooter and a very good defender. He will be able to help out Mo Pete on the perimeter defense. He will be dressed for the Boston Game on the Road and is anticipated that he will get the starting nod.

Inside the Celtics

The Celtics have gotten an athletic rookie in the draft in Gerald Green. He is an explosive athlete who attacks the rim at any given chance possible. They also have sophomores in Al Jefferson and Delonte West, who have proven they are capabile of NBA status. Paul Pierce will be the leader offensively this year with the departure of Gary Payton and Antoine Walker both to Miami. Last year, he was moody alot of the time, and didn't play his best basketball. This year, he has got to carry the Boston Celtics on his back and bring the best out of the young talent in Beantown.

Projected Starters

Raptors:
C - Charlie Villanueva
PF - Chris Bosh
SF - Joey Graham
SG - Morris Peterson
PG - Mike James

Celtics:
C - Raef LaFrentz
PF - Al Jefferson
SF - Paul Pierce
SG - Tony Allen
PG - Marcus Banks

*Note: As you can see, I will be messing around with the lineup in the preseason. Each starter will come off the bench for atleast one game.
