Here's what I've come up with. I followed Colin's 'Spiffy Avatar' tutorial, what do you think? I'd especially like comments from Colin.

Yeah, it is :P Thanks

I looked through some tutorials and made this. I didn't do much, that's the brushes that give that effect. Colin's avatar tutorial helped the most, it lead me to things I didn't know how to do, like gradient.

I was bored and I wanted to work on my skills, so I made this. Once again, I got the idea from Colin, he posted a bg like this. Thanks Colin

nice (Y) ,do you live close to there?

Sun Oct 02, 2005 12:18 pm

No, I live in Ontario, but I went there 2 years ago. I think that Newfoundland is the most beautiful place I've ever seen, I'd go back in a second. Has anyone else ever been there?

Sun Oct 02, 2005 1:04 pm

nah i havent, but it looks like a really nice place, judging by that sig (Y) (Y) 8-)

Trying to make an avatar like mine for that logo was a bad idea in the first place. Because you have three main colours. Red, yellow, and navy blue. And just grey wouldn't look good. It was doomed from the start. And you have very little contrast. Did you add a curves layer?

For the sig, using the channel mixer to get rid of some of the blue on the hill/cliff/rock formation would've been good as a lot of contrast doesn't always work in this kind of situation.

Thanks, I'll fix it when I get time.

About the avatar, no, I don't have a curves layer, I don't think Elements 2.0 has that option. And before I get the 'get something better than Elements' comments, I'm going to stick with Elements for a while at least, my dad and I are going to take some courses on how to use it.

About the sig, I don't remember if I changed that colour or not, but I'll fix it.

Mon Oct 03, 2005 12:09 pm

Curves is the best for that, followed by levels, followed by brightness/contrast.

Mon Oct 03, 2005 12:17 pm

Okay, thanks.

I fixed the sig, is this what you meant? or too much?

I think it's a little too red in the back, but that's the idea. I think it looks better now. I remember seeing this riduculously pro tutorial about taking the blue out of mountain pics...but where?

A have question for anyone who can answer, it's probably a really simple one, but I haven't figured it out yet.

How do you make the background different colours in a sig? Like this, and this (made by nbalive744)

Like I said, I've tried and can't figure it out. What I try to do is set a coloured layer to multply or overlay above the brushes, but then it affects all layers below it. So, to summerize, how do you change the colour of one or more layers of brushes without affecting other layers?
