Hamilton sparks early Pistons' run in victory

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 13 (Ticker) -- The Detroit Pistons know they are going to eventually lose a game.

They are just enjoying delaying the inevitable as long as possible.

The Pistons routed the Milwaukee Bucks 104-72 Thursday night to move to a 2-0 preseason.

"We were playing well in the preseason and we really wanted to win this game before we go to battle Minny,'' said Richard Hamilton, who led Detroit with 25 points. "We were focused tonight and we really played well.''

Detroit took Milwaukee out right from the opening tip.

"They were the aggressors on both ends of the floor, and we never challenged them,'' Bucks coach Terry Stotts said. "Obviously, we aren't ready to play with a hardworking team like that. They do what they are supposed to do, and we just weren't physical enough for them.''

Tayshaun Prince added 21 points for Detroit, which also got 21 points from Rasheed Wallace and 15 points and 16 rebounds from Ben Wallace.

"This was a very good team effort,'' Prince said. "We wanted to take them out of their tempo by going inside and making the Bucks work for their shots, and we were able to do that.''

Play Of The Game >> Big Ben blocks Redd

Desmond Mason and 1st pick overall Andrew Bogut led Milwaukee with 18 and 14 points, respectively.

"I just don't understand this,'' Mason said. "We've played a good team, but it is hard for me to accept this loss. We've got good players, but our defense just isn't real good.''

Bucks star Michael Redd, who averaged 23.0 points last season, had just seven against Detroit. He shot 2-of-14.

"I spent a lot of time watching tapes to make sure Redd didn't do that to me,'' Hamilton added.

The Pistons took control with a 31-12 first-quarter. Hamilton had ten points, when Prince had nine.

"Getting off to a good start is always going to be a key for us,'' Pistons coach Flip Saunders said. "Tonight, that was really good and it let us play from ahead.''

Detroit kept up the pressure with a 29-14 second period, en route to a 60-26 halftime lead. Prince had 14 for the Pistons, while Mason had 11 for the Bucks.

"Anytime you get down by 34 points, it's going to be really tough to come back in this league,'' Jason Williams said. "No good team is going to let you come back from 30 down and win.''

Nice recap dude, good win as well, I like that Big Ben is getting those rebound numbers up as well. What length quarters are you playing? If you are playing 12 you are doing well to get scores and stats like that.

Keep it up (Y)

Oh just noticed...... YAY!!! :bday:  1000th Post, not a very big accomplishment when you look at how long ive been a member, but im just a dynasty lurker so the majority of them have been in these threads (Y):beer:

One-On-One | Carlos Arroyo

Postby kibaxx7 on Sat Oct 01, 2005 2:24 am

Pistons.com Exclusive Interviews With Players and Coaches - A Pistons.com Exclusive
One-On-One: Carlos Arroyo

Image

Carlos Arroyo was acquired from the Utah Jazz in exchange for Elden Campbell and a future first-round draft pick on January 21, 2005. Undrafted out of Florida International, The Puerto Rican native landed a spot with the Toronto Raptors during training camp. After half a season with the Raptors and Denver Nuggets, Arroyo was appointed John Stockton's successor in Utah. Now a Detroit Piston, Arroyo will help strengthen one of the best backcourts in the NBA in Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton. Pistons.com sat down with Arroyo to find out about his impressions of Detroit and what he expects to contribute in this one-on-one exclusive.

What were your original thoughts on coming to Detroit following the trade?
I knew I was going to come to a team that was going to be a little bit different for me. The opportunity I had in Utah to start and to come to a team like this and have Chauncey at the one and Rip at the two, I understand I’ll be playing one and two with Chauncey. It’s a great opportunity for me to learn from them and for me to get better with such great talent that this team has.

What is your impressions on the city of Detroit?
It has been snowing too much. I haven’t been able to check out the city or nothing like that. I know downtown Detroit is like 45, 50 minutes away, but so far, so good. I haven’t had time to do much yet.

Did Mehmet Okur have any advice for you as you left Utah?
He misses his teammates and the people here. They were great with him, and so far for me, it’s been great. They have welcomed me into a great environment and the guys get along great. That’s good for team chemistry.

What expectations do you have of yourself? What do you expect to contribute to this team?
Everything. I believe they brought me here to help the team and that’s what my goals should be. Help the team as much as possible, control the temple of the game, run things whenever I am out there.

Image Image

What do you enjoy doing away from basketball?
I like to go to the movies, have a nice dinner at a restaurant with my wife. I like to spend time with my wife. Most of my hobbies I do during the summer when it’s sunny and I am back home with my family. I’m a low-key guy. I like to relax, watch TV, go to the movies.

How about music? What do you enjoy listening to?
Everything. From my country's music, regaton to hip-hop and R&B. I also like Gospel music.

Where do you live during the offseason?
I have a home in Miami. It’s similar to Puerto Rico, but my whole family is from Puerto Rico and they all live over there. I go there every summer to visit.

Who was your favorite player growing up?
Favorite player growing up was Michael Jordan, but I use to watch Isiah and Joe Dumars a lot. Pistons. That was basically my team – Detroit.

Image Image

Something exciting happened to you this offseason. Puerto Rico defeated Team USA in the opening round of the 2004 Summer Olympics. Describe that feeling.
It was a great feeling. It was a big accomplishment for our country and for our basketball team. It was great. People respect the job that we do every time we step out of the island and represent our country. That means a lot to us and it means a lot to them. It’s an honor for us to represent our country.

Have you and Larry Brown been able to sit down and discuss the Olympics?
He just mentions sometimes that the plays are similar to what we use to run in the summer and stuff like that.

Like Ben Wallace you went undrafted. What does that say about yourself that you’ve made it and you are still playing in the NBA today?
Dreams do come true. If you work hard and stay focused on your dreams, you will achieve them. You have to understand that nobody is going to give you anything. You have to work for everything you want and hard work pays off. I’ve been through struggles, not being drafted and trying to make a team and I understand. That’s why I respect this league so much. I understand tat this is a privilege, not a right to be here. For me to have the opportunity to be on an NBA team, it’s a great opportunity that not a lot of people get to have. I’m the chosen one.

Pistons go up big, survive furious Wolves rally

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 16 (Ticker) -- Tayshaun Prince scored 25 points and Detroit held off the Minnesota Timberwolves 113-105 Sunday night.

''We should be a zone attack team with the personnel we have,'' coach Flip Saunders said, ''and we will be.''

Chauncey Billups also scored 25 points, and 10 assists. Prince (10 rebounds), Billups and Rasheed Wallace (18-10) all got double-doubles.

Wally Szczerbiak had 37 points and 8 rebounds for Minnesota, shooting 5-for-8 3-pointers. Kevin Garnett added 24 points on 11-for-20 shooting from the field. Michael Olowokandi had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Trailing by 8 with 4:38 to play, the Wolves outscored the Pistons 10-2 to tie the game at 102.

Billups then sank a 3-pointer and started a 11-3 run and win the game.

Garnett, a good friend of Billups, remembered being beaten by a Chauncey's 3-pointer last season.

''Chauncey's a clutch player,'' Kevin said. ''He's done it his whole career and he'll continue to do it. Me knowing him real good personally, I knew that that's the thing he thrives on.''

Saunders designed the play for Billups to make the shot.

''I think I had a good look,'' Billups said. ''The best part about taking a shot of that caliber is that you want to take it.''

Wolves reserve Eddie Griffin notched 10 points.

Pistons rookie Jason Maxiell added 4 points and 2 rebounds, when offseason signee Maurice Evans had 5 points and 2 assists.

'Sheed's late 3-pointer leads Pistons over Mavs

Image

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 18 (Ticker) -- The Detroit Pistons were happy that Rasheed Wallace didn't take a rare night off to rest and recover from a large practice.

Wallace hit a 3-pointer with 21.4 seconds left as Detroit rallied to beat the revamped Dallas Mavericks 87-83 last night.

"I just kind of made up my mind. If I was open, I was going to take it,'' he said. "The more I miss, the better the chance that the next one is going in.''

Chauncey Billups had 19 points and Richard Hamilton added 17 for the Pistons, who won when Josh Howard and Marquis Daniels' tying attempts were way off.

"We didn't go away,'' said Flip Saunders. "They had us down by four and we were struggling. We were able to maintain our composure, get the stops that we needed and make some big shots, that lifted us to the win."

Ben Wallace had 5 points but posted 19 rebounds.

Detroit was 32-for-80 from the field, for a .400 shooting.

"Rasheed had the looks on some shots that he usually hits, and then he stepped right back in there and hit a big-time 3,'' Saunders added.

Jerry Stackhouse started for Dallas and led the team in scoring with 19 points, when Dirk Nowitzki had a double-double of 16 points and 17 rebounds in 42 minutes.

Keith Van Horn finished with 6 points and 13 rebounds; when Jason Terry had 14 points and 6 assists.
