Official Civilization IV Thread

Mon Sep 26, 2005 11:25 am

It's been 4 years since the release of Civilization III, and I've been looking forward to Civilization IV for a long time now. Is anybody gushing over this game that's projected to come out at the end of October? I know Andrew enjoyed Pirates as it was a Sid Meier type of game. If anyone likes micromanagement, world domination, or history-based games similar to Empire Earth or Rise of Nations, you might really like this game (unless you hate turn-based games).

Screenshots can be found at http://www.civfanatics.com/gallery/

Here's some info from the official site (www.2kgames.com/civ4/):

Actually, it might be early November according to other sources. Amazon.com and .ca lists it as October 24, IIRC. Man, I'm gonna be so addicted to this game

this game sounds similar to age of empires. Age of Empires 3 is going to demand a good computer though lol

Is this the Official Sims Sexual Acts Fan club?

I installed and ran the demo, but it always restarted my computer. Apparently, a lot of people is having the same problem. I'll wait until they can find out what's causing the restarts.

Pre-ordered this today. Civ IV is going to take up half my time now, hehe.

Thu Oct 20, 2005 5:46 am

Did you get the special edition one with the black box?

Civ4 is coming out this coming Tuesday! :headbang:

I've seen a few of these type of games, never owned one though. Maybe I'll look into buying this, although I've pretty much banned myself from computer games since I began having computer problems (damn restarts )

It was released one day late, and while it was released on Wednesday, I called around, and they were all sold out to the people that pre-ordered it. No probs, though, I have a midterm today at 12:30pm, and I'll celebrate by getting this game after

But a big issue with a driver glitch has been reported for a whopping 50% of users who bought this game. Sounds really bad, so Firaxis is working on it to release a patch or recommendations. I hope this won't affect me. Other than that, reviews and reports have given this game superb ratings... Can't wait :D

I never got into the civilization series.. I was busy bangin cocktail waitresses..

The only computer game I ever owned was Starcraft and Starcraft : Brood War . God those games were the greatest . I remember I was in top 10 of the ladder at one point , but that only lasted a good hour or so.

Mon Oct 31, 2005 4:17 am

I just bought the game, and I'm fairly addicted to it  It's such an awesome improvement over Civ III, and that 4 years was worth the wait. Man, virtually every aspect of the game has improved, and I'm just glad I got this game! I gotta start doing homework and forget about that "one more turn." :x

Mon Oct 31, 2005 6:18 am

Do homework when it's not your turn Cyanide. When it's your turn again, play.

Mon Oct 31, 2005 3:19 pm

 Good point, except when it's my turn, it's almost instant, so I'm stuck to make the next move, then it's just a vicious cycle. I even forget to eat :x

The symptoms of gaming addiction.

Tue Nov 01, 2005 6:26 am

Well, they weren't kidding when they made a trailer (http://media.pc.ign.com/media/620/620513/vids_1.html) and a website (http://www.civanon.org/home.shtml) called Civilization Anonymous for those who are addicted to Civilization. It is said that this year's version is supposed to be the most addicting game of the series.

I haven't touched it since yesterday () so I'm gonna try to do nothing but homework tonight.

Civ

 at that site of Civilization Anonymous
Old Woman on the site wrote:I've been attending CivAnon meetings for approximately 18 months now. Partly because I began to get a perverse thrill out of wiping out entire civilizations with atomic intercontinental ballistic weaponry, and partly because they serve cake at the meetings. I like to kill, that's true. But I like cake even more.

WTF?

EDIT.

I don't think I've ever played the game. I might've played one of the earlier versions but I didn't really get into it... the game I'm thinking of, I just created alot of Robocop-looking robots and wiped everyone out.

I think that's also in the trailer. Funniest gaming trailer I've seen. Even George Bush is one of the addicts; his face is blurred, but you could tell it looks like him, and sounds like him.

What game is that? Is it a turn-based strategy game, or is it a realtime strategy game? First thing that comes to mind is Postal, even though that's a little off-topic

Wed Nov 02, 2005 6:18 am

Man the game is addictive. I just beat the game for the first time. (Space victory...)
One thing I don't like is how much RAM this game requires. Holy shit. It loads up forever when my Empire is big enough.

Even George Bush is one of the addicts

Yeah, he likes the religious fanaticism aspect of the game.

I forgot to buy that game during my recent bargain bin hunting. Damn.
