"Overdrive in the Big Apple." A New York Knicks dynasty.
While i'd love to do a Nets dynasty, or a team that's a strong title contender, the NY Knicks intrigued me as a dysfunctional family that needs some guidance. My job is to clean up the mess that Isiah Thomas made, and work hand-in-hand with new top coach Larry Brown to revitalize this team back into the playoffs, and eventually to the top. I'll start the season when I buy the game for PC, which should be in 2-3 weeks.

2005-2006 Roster

Image
C: Jerome James

He made some noise during the postseason last year, averaging around 17/9/2. He fills the void in the center position and can block some shots, which should help us control the lane a bit. Zeke overpaid him (what a surprise) and if he isn't willing to work hard, then don't expect him to recieve more playing time than last year.
Image
PF: Malik Rose
A hardworking veteran, Rose brings that veteran leadership and toughness to the lineup. He's small, but makes up for it with his witty play around the basket. His experience and defensive capabilities are vital if the Knicks are to contend.
Image
SF: Quentin Richardson
Ever since Q-rich has been on board, Zeke has been pushing for him to start in the lineup. He's a good shooter who can run the floor, as well as post up on smaller guards. He's also a good rebounder, which'll help one of the worst rebounding teams in the league. His defense is his achilles heel, and don't be surprised if LB runs him off the starting lineup and push him to the bench for Ariza.
Image
SG: Stephon Marbury
Starbury's one heck of a player, and lights up the stat sheets on almost every given night. The knock on him though is it doesn't translate to wins, mainly because of his "me first" attitude that follows him onto the court. Hopefully Larry Brown, like he did with AI and the whole Pistons team, can change him, and also make him play defense. He also stated that Larry is experimenting in placing him in the off guard position, so don't be shocked if he's averaging 24+ ppg.
Image
PG: Jamal Crawford
Jamal Crawford has loads of talent, but hasn't been able to bring himself to his full potential. He's a good shooter and passer, and has one of the best handles in the league. He has the speed and athleticism to be a great defender, but just doesn't try. Hopefully with a man like LB directing him, he can be a more refined, unselfish, tamed player with solid defense.
Image
6m: Trevor Ariza
He's one of the few bright spots on the Knicks roster. He's an athletic, non-shooting version of Tayshaun Prince, and he's a lockdown defender. Brown doesn't usually put in young players, but he'll have to make an exception in this young talent. He'll get the nod as a starter if Q-Rich can't meet Larry Brown's high standards.

2: Nate Robinson
3: Tim Thomas
4: Allan Houston
5: Channing Frye
6: Mike Sweetney
7: David Lee
IR1:Maurice Taylor
IR2:Penny Hardaway
IR3:Jackie Butler

10/05/05 Knicks beef up, acquire Curry from the Bulls
Image
The Knicks have traded Michael Sweetney, Tim Thomas, and Jermaine Jackson to the Bulls in return for Eddy Curry and Antonio Davis. Terms of Curry's new contract were not disclosed. Curry averaged 16.1p and 5.4r per game last season to lead the Bulls in scoring. Davis, a former All-Star selection in 2001, is a seasoned vet who has no trouble grabbing rebounds and scoring in the post.

You can't except another thing from Zeke. :P By the way, I found Robinson, Frye and Lee's portraits...

Updated 9/23/05 12:02 am EDT. New interview with Trevor Ariza.

--------------------

Image

Trevor Time by Scoop Jackson.
The Big Apple. Bright lights, vast illumination, untamed cars and traffic. Every where you turn I hear the people squabbling about Marbury and the Knicks. Depicted as hometown superheroes, the New York Knickerbockers were a team that represented the heart and soul of the city. It seems that some of that heart and soul has drifted away ever since the departure and retirement of superstar Patrick Ewing. In 2004, Isiah Thomas caused a lot of controversy with his wild trades and transactions, and the Knicks were just a mess. They weren't winning any games, and they were well above the cap. Enter Trevor Ariza. After being drafted deep in the second round, he seized his rookie season and became the most well-known sleeper of the draft. He's the last glimpse of hope that was seen on the roster. After a sensational rookie season, Ariza hopes to work hand-in-hand with newly aquired coach Larry Brown, as well as the young new pieces to the puzzle, to take the Knicks straight to the top of the Empire State Building.

Scoop Jackson: We all know about your fantastic season last year with the Knicks. How was the experience?

Trevor Ariza: Oh man. All in all this experience has been wonderful for me. I learned a lot my first year, and with mentors like Marbury, it made an easy transition for me. It was hard at first, but I think i'll soon get the full grasp of what NBA life is all about.

SJ: Speaking of Marbury, how well do you get along with the other teammates? Do you have a best friend on the team?

TA: I love all the guys on the team, they've all made me feel comfortable, but at the same they all push me to the point where I can get better. Jackie Butler and I are real good friends, cause we know what it's like to enter the NBA at a real young age. Hopefully him and I can be teammates until the future, and we'll both develop together through the following years.

SJ: Yeah, I guess it must be cool to have someone on the team your age. The Knicks have signed Larry Brown as head coach. What are your expectations?

TA: I'm so excited to have him as our mentor. He's definitely one of the best coaches of all time, and to have a guy like him to guide me is just great.

SJ: What kind of role do you think you'll be having on the team this year?

TA: I'll be happy with whatever Larry Brown gives me. He knows whats best, and if that's me coming off the bench i'm fine with that. As long as I try to keep expanding my game, I'll be happy.

SJ: What do you hope to improve on your game, either on your own or with the help of Coach LB?

TA: Well I know my weaknesses, and that's the first step. Throughout the whole summer i've been practicing my jumpshot. I've made it a point to make at least 30-50 consecutive mid-range shots before I leave the gym. I know I can slash to the basket, but if I become repetitive the defense will adapt and they'll be able to stop me. So my goal is to improve my jump-shot, so if they give me space, i'll launch instead of drive.

SJ: I like that in a guy. You're humble. What do you think of the Thomas-Richardson trade on Draft Day earlier this summer? And the Jerome James signing?

TA: The team of course miss Kurt Thomas. He helped us a lot, and has contributed to the Knicks ever since he came. Richardson is great though. He'll definitely help up in the scoring department, and with him around we can run the floor a lot more this year. Jerome James is a big big man, and he'll be able to help us in the five spot a lot. I'm glad he's here to help.

SJ: Don't forget about the rookies too!

TA: Yeah! I've seen their abilities, and I have to say i'm really impressed. Nate Rob can get up there! David Lee too! Frye is a great player, and I can't wait to see him in action. With all the new talent mixing in with the old, we're going to be successful. I gaurantee it. Watch out for us in the playoffs!

SJ: You heard it first people. Thanks for taking your time to stop by, and I hope to see you in the future, man.

TA: My pleasure.

Steph: I'll be Larry's No. 2
August 4, 2005
BY FRANK ISOLA
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

The self-proclaimed best point guard in the NBA is ready for a career change.
Stephon Marbury revealed yesterday that he is prepared to move to shooting guard under new coach Larry Brown, a switch that Marbury believes is a "scary" proposition for the rest of the league.

"He told me a long time ago if I ever coach you I'll put you at the two because you're a two-guard," Marbury said during his camp at Basketball City in Manhattan. "To me, it don't matter. As long as I'm on the court playing, it don't matter who's the one or two.

"But if I play the two, it's going to be scary. It's going to be kind of scary because I can shoot whenever I want to shoot. I won't even have to think about it. I think I'll be more of a playmaker because I'll be playing behind the defense."

Brown switched Allen Iverson from a point guard to a shooting guard and Iverson eventually became the league's MVP. But Iverson also played alongside a classic point guard in Eric Snow, and if Brown is intent on making Marbury a two guard, the Knicks could be in the market for a starting point guard.

Source

He may or may not actually play the 2 this season, as there's no other legit one guard at the moment, but i'm willing to experiment with Crawford.

Thanks for all the comments/criticism everyone. Greatly appreciated.

The reason Crawford starts is because of his height. He'll be matching up on defense with the opposing team's 2guard, while Marbury'll probably match up on defense with the opposing team's 1guard. If Crawford doesn't improve his defense, then either Nate starts, or i'll bump Q-Rich to the 2 spot and Trevor to the 3. Sweetney will get more minutes then Rose, but Rose starts for his experience and D. Rose can run the floor better, so we can probably get some early fast break points and gain the lead early.
