To those who were wondering, it was ME that asked COOLmac a question originally. (If you're curious, the question was, "Is there any Biblical support to the claim that a person doesn't have to be a professing Christian in order to get into Heaven?) I don't mind asking stuff here, I just didn't this time b/c I didn't want to revive this thread just for my question...but COOLmac decided to answer it here for others to follow as well...and that's alright with me.

Anyway, COOLmac, I have some comments & questions about your replies:

 First of all, thanks for the quick, thoughtful, and thorough reply. (Y)
 I see what you're saying about in order for a person to achieve salvation, they must follow the Gospel of Jesus. But what exactly does that mean? Just His teachings? Because many of his teachings talked about how people need to believe in Him in order to get into Heaven...Do you mean people just need to act a certain way? What about the concept of being saved by grace & faith, and not just by works?
 Is there anything in the Bible that talks about how people who never hear of Jesus or understand Him before they die are judged?

Thanks a lot for your help :)

Whatever I served since my birth  "Whatever" can be anything, so it's all open for interpretation. It's not, however, open to Legend's interpretation.

oh i am having a hardtime without my notes back home [a nephew of mine borrowed one of my bible, the notes were inside its casing] . so next week will be the most appropriate time for me to scavenge my lost knowledge. i came up with a few text which i think would be of help. i took time to see them online if they correspond to what you are looking for. pls do look this few text up and tell me if it helps a little

1peter 3:20

Luke 6:46, John 8:31

1Corinthians 14:37
1john 1:3
james 1:27
1 corinthians 13:13

actually when your pals debated that only Jesus can saved they are wrong. God saves too.
as a proof here. the past people never knew christ but God saved them!
Luke 17:26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. 27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. 30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

and this other thing where millions of poeple who never knew God were at the top of the mountain because they were saved during the opening of the book, many cried out because they strongly believe that their names should be there because they profess about God/Christ but their names weren't written. i'll
just have to remember it badly where it is located . till next time fellow faith hungered christians. peace

Those passages were just what I was hoping for, COOLmac, thanks a lot. In particular, John 8:31, 1 John 1:3-7, James 1:27, and 1 Corinthians 13:13 really surprised me, because such clear language is used.

Now the hard part is finding the balance between these and passages like John 3:18 and John 14:6, but I'm going to try to fit it all together...

Thanks again.

no probs man. i'll be heading back to the province this weekend and i might get hold of my beloved bible, so i might post by monday more stuff. till then pray hard and let the spirit guide you to spiritual wisdom. God bless (Y)

EDIT:added bonus. someone asked where in the bible is the proof the earth is round?

The Earth is Round

For centuries, men believed that the earth was flat. The Bible asserts otherwise. People in the 15th century feared sailing because they thought they would fall at the edge of the flat earth. Yet the Bible revealed the truth more than 1,000 years before man discovered it for himself.

It took a long time for science to discover what was recorded in the Bible more than 2,500 years ago. Copernicus invented the first globe in 1475 to demonstrate that the earth is a sphere. Galileo constructed the first astronomical telescope to study the sky. Columbus believed the earth was sphere with his voyage to North America in 1492. Finally, Magellan and his men sailed around the earth and proved it to be spherical in shape. These major events did not occur until the 15th century.

The fact of a spherical earth was clearly proclaimed in the Bible by the prophet Isaiah nearly twenty-eight centuries ago. In chapter 40 verse 22 of the book of Isaiah we read:

“It is He that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.” (KJV)

When Isaiah wrote this verse, he used the Hebrew word “khug” to describe the shape of the earth. Although this word is commonly translated into the English word “circle,” the literal meaning of this word is “a sphere.” It is also used in Proverbs 8:27:

“When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: (KJV)

The word “khug” here is translated “compass”, referring to the surface of the ocean taking on a spherical shape. The earth is also said to be spherical as other verses like Job 26:10, and Amos 9:6 states:

(Job 26:10, KJV) “He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.”

(Amos 9:6, KJV)

“It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven, and hath founded his troop in the earth; he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name.”

Only idiots thought that the world was flat. They knew in Ancient Greece. Your idea is flat from there.

First as we have tackled all the way since time memorial that noone with sin can enter heaven, as said in

1corinthians 15:50-57
50: Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
51: Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52: In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53: For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54: So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
55: O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
56: The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
57: But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

so before we can enter the kindom of God we must be forgiven and cleanse from our sins. There are so many many ways to be cleanse from sins example will be

colossians 3:1-11
1: If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2: Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3: For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4: When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
5: Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6: For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8: But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9: Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10: And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
11: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

but the big question is what about those who don’t believed in christ Jesus? Those that have never heard of christianity and those who don’t have legion with God?
Well according to the bible there are people who do good, even when they don’t have a basis of God, and since they do good they don’t sin

James 4:17
17: Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Why is this so? Why do people do good? Even when they havent hear the word of God? Since God created man, His goodness is tattoed to men, this is evident when he put a seed and a treasure in all our hearts which is his commandments, take a read from these passages:

Luke 8:11
Matther 6:20
Proverbs 7:1-3

But people do sin because noone is exempted to sin

Romans 3:23

So if everyone else sins, how and who will saved them?
Kindly take heart this passages

John 6:44
1 John 3:1-11

so from the beginning God has been saving us, everyone is born of God. Imagine a baby born with guns in his hand, a ciggarette on his mouth and evil in his heart? No noone is born that way, we are a perfect image of God, all innocent and pure. So it is only true that the one who can save us is God also, since he is the one in charge of everything, if you happen to fall during the time when Jesus was not yet preaching, or you don’t believe in Jesus but deep inside you do what God’s will, then God will surely save you. Salvation is not closed for a few people only, take note to that. God is a merciful God, ever giving. Salvation is open to all who are willing to be saved

Acts 15:17-20
Acts 15:28-29

So whenever someone or some group claimed that they are just going to be the only ones to be saved, just pray for them. And if you are an unbeliever and have this belief that as long as you did right, continue to do right maybe someday God will bring you back to his love, you are already touched just by doing Good. Another few quotes before we close for the week thanks for your continued patronage. AMEN

1 john 5:2-3
1 john 5: 18

and some verses that would be of help

ephesians 4:2-24
proverbs 8:8
