Transactions and Scouting

Horace Jenkins was released today, he had nothing to offer the team. Once Dale Davis and Maurice Evans came back from unjury, Jenkins was not needed, and there was not enough space for him on the roster. Hopefuly for him, another team sees potential in him and takes him off the free agent Market.

___________________________________________________________

Both Dale Davis and Maurice Evans came off the long-term injury list today, both proving their fitness after their respective injuries had them out of the side for the first months of the season. Hopefully they will be able to add to the excellent team assembled in Detroit.

____________________________________________________________

In the Pistons third trade of the season, they announce under-performing Richard Hamilton will be traded to Milwauke for the 2005 number-one draft pick, Andrew Bogut

With Elden Campbell retiring at the end of the year, the Pistons are lacking a centre to back up Ben Wallace. This is unnofficially called "Shaq Insurance," needed to help Pistons through the East Conference playoffs.
Bogut was not fitting in with the rest of the Wolves, and his heart clearly wasn’t in it. “Having him around any longer surely would have hurt the team more than it would have helped.” –Wolves GM.
“Whatever the wolves say, we are sure that Bogut will be a welcome addition to our team.” – Pistons GM
Richard Hamilton was scoring under 10points a game, and missing alot of easy shots. Corey Maggette will be able to fill the void that Rip left behind.

____________________________________________________________

Introducing, wearing #21 for the Pistons in 05-06, Corey Maggette
From the LA Clippers, Chauncey Billups was traded in order to get the Pistons a Shooting Guard who can really dunk the sh*t out of the ball. Hamilton will now be coming off the bench, supporting Magette.

Not without his own merit, wearing #2 for the 05-06 season, Joe Johnson!
Ronal Dupree and Carlos Arroyo both went to Phoenix in order for the Pistons to fill the whole left when Billups left. Johnson will now be the Pistons point guard, with Lindsay Hunter to back him up.

In the 2004-05 season Joe Johnson averaged 17.1 PPG, 5.1 RPG and 3.5 APG.
Corey Magette averaged 22.2 PPG, 6 RPG and 3.4 APG.

Welcome Magette and Johnson, show Detroit what you're made of.

Game 1 - Pistons v. 76ers

Box Scores - Detroit
Box Scores - Philly

Was only a 3min quarter game, on rookie, just to get me started on the new game

Billups played an awesome game - almost top scoring, yet lead the game in assists and steals.
Flip Saunders made a nice move bringing Milicic on in the second quarter, as he grabbed some nice boards, and scored 6 points in 3minutes.
Prince was dominating score wise, recieving some great passes and making them count for points.

Hamilton and Rasheed were both quiet tonight.

*Note: This recap isnt too good/long because I am not going to make good ones for short games

Game 2 - Detroit vs Miami

Box Scores - Detroit
Box Scores - Miami

12min Quarters - on Superstar

Final Score:
Miami: 41 44 39 42 / 166
Detroit: 33 40 47 41 / 161

This game was an absolute blinder - even though I lost, it is the first close game I've played in 13 dynasty years on 2005.

First Quarter
Both teams were killing in offensive rebounds, with more offensived being grabbed than defensive. The difference in the teams was the fact that Detroit was missing a lot more under the ring, resulting in Miami starting off with an 8 point lead.
Towards the end of the quarter, Detroit gave up alot of bad passes, many turnovers resulting in easy goals. The full court man we were playing just wasnt working, so Flip switched to a 1-3-1 zone defence, and Ben Wallace started to fire-up. He blocked 3 shots in succesion, and made some unvelieveable dunks.
Unfortuantely, the Pistons were getting tired, and had to make subs. The subs didnt play as well as was hoped, letting the team down, and giving Miami the lead.

Second Quarter
Rasheed came out firing, scoring 6points in under a minute, bringing Detroit to within 2 points of the lead. Quickly, the run was ended and we were down by 10. Billups brought his A-Game, shooting 3 goals from downtown in under a minute, before finally missing after his 5th straight for the game. He ended up getting only 2 from 20 after this point, a dismal performance.
O'Neal was showing the boys how it was down, he was on-fire under the ring bringing down offensive boards and then slamming then home.
A bonecrushing dunk put-down by Milicic started the Pistons run, scoring 8-0, which was followed up by Miami's 6-0, a result of their offensive boards.

Milicic starting the 8-0 run

Billups with one of his 3-pointers

Rasheed with one of his 6 points in succesion

Third Quarter
The third was point for point for three minutes, until Rasheed came off the bench and one again score 6 points in under a minute. McDyess was dissapointing, giving up easy goals and not grabbing the boards.
Detroit switched a full-court man, putting pressure on Miami who coughed up the ball three times in succesion to Billups, who scored off each one, getting 6 points in under 90 seconds.
With 4minutes left, the Pistons were in foul trouble, and this resulted in easy goals, especially for Jones who was on fire. Damon Jones from Miami took advantage of the Pistons lack-lustre defence scoring 8 points before missing.
Billups finished the quarter well, with a few steals and a goal on the buzzer.

One of Rasheeds great dunks, The Ally
And the Catch

Fourth Quarter
The Pistons were tired after a hard third quarter, so subs were brought on for the whole team. They performed magnificently, Campbell doing excellent against O'Neal. Wade was shooting like a man-possesed, hitting 4 from 4 in rapid time.
Three great steals from Detroit, resulting in goals got us within 1 point, the closest since the first quarter, and a great 3-point play from under the basket to Prince got us within 2 points (after a good 3 from Wade).
6.44min left - 2 Points in it
5.20 left - 3 points behind
4.44 left - Pistons finally hit the lead for the first time since halfway through the first with some awesome steals and assists from Billups.
- B. Wallace comes off the bench for Campbell. Ben then had a dismal performance, letting O'Neal get 2 easy goals. Campbell goes back on ASAP.
3.39 left - Wade smashes down a great dunk off a fast break to bring Miami within 1 point.
3.11 left - Rasheed slams down a glass-breaking dunk off the ally to get Detroit up by 3.
2.47 left - Hamilton FINALLY does something after a quiet game, hitting a 3 from downtown to give the Pistons a 4 point lead.
2.04 left - Miami hits another 2 points from the line, putting Campbell on 4, and giving Miami their 8th point in succesion from the line. Miami still down by 2.
1.23 left - Miami hits a 3 to snatch the lead. Detroit down by 1.
56.3seconds left - Billups misses what may have been the match losing 3-pointer, Detroit down by 3.
51.4 - Shaq gets fouled, and the goal to put detroit down by 5
22.7 left - Billups misses an OPEN 3-pointer, one which would have drawn the game level.
10.4 left - Billups once again misses an open 3-pointer, effectively losing the game for detroit.

What settings are you using ?

It looks like stealing has become very easy again. High scoring game and nice try. Good game though.

Game 3 - Detroit vs Chicago Bulls

Box Scores - Detroit
Box Scores - Chicago

6min Quarters - on Superstar

Final Score:
Chicago: 13 21 24 19 / 77
Detroit: 22 24 12 17 / 75

First Quarter
Big Ben started the game well - cleaning up the offensive and defensive boards, and also slapping some fantastic blocks in defence, showing why he is the defensive player of the year.
Johnson and Maggette, both recent additions to the Pistons showed why they were so important to the team, combining well with the team without fail, giving Maggette two quick assists, including a centimetre-perfect ally oop to Tayshaun Prince.
Johnson was excellent in defence, chipping in with a great steal resulting in a goal early on in the game.

One of Ben Wallaces great dunks.

Second Quarter
Maxiell came on for his first minutes of the year with a great steal, and a quick goal. He combined with Johnson to pressure the ball, resulting in a team steal.
Campbell had another great game coming off the bench, providing a great scoring option in close for Johnson's perfect passes, inclusing many ally's.
Hunter was bad early on, but showed signs as the games continued. Unfortunately, Eddy Curry was killing Detroit in both offence and defence, leading the Bulls in scoring and rebounds, Milicic wasnt doing his job in defence. Lucky for Darko, however, that he was scoring with ease in the second, as was Maxiell, who was also playing bad in defence.

Third Quarter
The Pistons were struggling in offence, every player trying to be the star and lift their team, every playing trying their best to drive in and perform a team-lifting dunk. No one succeeded.
Halfway through the third, Detroit couldnt hit the side of a barn, with 8 consecutive misses and a quarter FG% of only 0.133, miraculously we were up by one point.
Milicic and Campbell combined well in offence, proving to be too tall for the Bulls defence, and also performed will in Defence, with Milicic strong on the offensive and defensive boards.

Maggette showing Detroit what he is made of.

Fourth Quarter
Jump to 3min left in the game, and Big Ben once again proving he isnt done yet, with some earth-shattering blocks ratting down onto the court. Maggette was helping too, with some team-lifting steals in defence resulting in goals to Johnson, who was great in offence.
Milicic continued to shine offensively, and Joe Johnson made some critical steals in the dieing seconds to bring the Pistons to within 2 points, sadly it wasn't enough.

Once again the Pistons lose a close game after leading early, bringing their season to 1-2. Next match is vs. Sacramento.

Game 4 - Detroit vs Sacramento

Box Scores - Detroit
Box Scores - Sacramento

6min Quarters - on Superstar

Final Score:
Sacramento: 23 25 20 27 15 / 110
Detroit: 17 35 24 19 22 / 117

First Quarter
After Rasheeds dissapointing performance in Game 3, Flip Saunders decided to start Milicic, and bring Rasheed on to provide a good scoring option when the rest of the team is tired. This proved to be a good move, even though Detroit started on a bad foot.
The Pistons didnt even look like scoring early, having a terrible start and Joe Johnson was playing terribly. Ben Wallace was good early, however the Pistons couldnt keep up with Bibby, he dominated the first quarter.
Tayshaun Prince was our saviour, shooting some nice goals to keep us within range.

Tayshaun hitting a shot from downtown

Second Quarter
Joe Johnson came out firing, shooting 3points from the charity stripe after recieving an 'easy' foul outside. Stojakovic was yet to be outdone, however, shooting two 3's in a row to slow any momentum Detroit might have gained.
The young ones, Maxiell and Milicic were good in defence, with Maxiell at SF. Maggette was great inside with scoring and passing, including 3 assists in quick succesion.
Joe Johnson was something else altogether. His second quarter was match-winning, 12points, 2 rebounds and 4 steals to bring Detroit up by 4 at the half-time break.
Hunter was also outstanding, with 4 steals in 30 seconds. His offence was lacklustre.

Third Quarter
Hunter combined well with the Wallaces early putting some points on the board, without fail. Three and a half minutes into the quarter, Detroit was on fire, hitting 5 straight with 100% quarter FG percentage.
Peja, once again not to be outdone showed what he could do, hitting shot after shot from downtown, slowing the Pisons momentum once again.
Luckily for Detroit, nothing was going right for the Kings, problems in offence arrose with almost constant "3-seconds in the key" viloations, many resulting in Pistons goals, not to mention the countless passes they through away.
As Johnson dominated the second, Big Ben dominated the third, getting 12 points.

Fourth Quarter
As opposed to th third, Detroit started terribly, missing their first 5 shots, until finally Ben stood up with a great offensive rebound, then slammed home the dunk.
Jump forward to 3min 50 left on the clock, feeling as though this game is lost, even though Detroit was 3 points up, nothing was falling from inside or outside and the Kings had the momentum - with the last 5 goals consecutivley.
Maggette wasn't performing to his potential, missing two easy dunks until once again Ben stood up and grabbed the offensive boards, slamming home a dunk.
Johnson combined well with Tayshaun, giving him two nice ally-oops, with precision passing.
With 1.50min left, scores were level.
Maggette returned back to form, showing off with a huge dunk over Kenny Thomas.
1minute left, and scores were level once again, Johnson stepped up and stole the ball out of Bibbies hands, ending up with 2 points for his efforts.
With 16seconds left, and scores level, Detroit had the ball and were counting down the seconds before sending a last-ditch effort to get the win. A feeling that if this game went into overtime, we would win, was on the players minds.
Joe Johnson could not handle the pressure, sending a bad pass to Ben, posted up with seconds left. Sacramento did not have time to score and the game went to Overtime.

Maggette over Thomas

Ben rising above the rest, also raising the teams spirits after many misses.

Over Time
An easy miss by the Kings resulted in Rasheed sending home a massive dunk, lifting the Pistons spirits and taking them to a new level of intencity.
Joe Johnson once again snatched some critical steals, making up for his dissappointing end to the fourth, resulting in two easy points from the line.
Maggette showed he really is a superstar, freestyling over the opposition for an important goal.
Ben Wallace blocked one of Peja's 3-pointers, completly halting any chance the Kings had of a comeback. Ben and Rasheed both played excellent in OT defensively, sending many a shot back over the Kings heads after massive blocks.
Joe Johnson and Bibby were both fouled out late in OT.

Maggette, the superstar, flying high

Rasheed with one of his highlight dunks.

Finally, a close game where Detroit came out on top. Look for more nice wins later on in the season.
The Pistons are now 2-2.

You got heart-breaking losses against Heat and Bulls but you got a great win over the Kings... keep it up, nice trades (Y)

By the way, why Maggette uses #21? I don't see no one using #50...
