Well since there are so many super US threads I decided to make an anti US anti-world thread/link, as suggested by Riot. Enjoy. The best is yet to come!

I am wondering if anybody even heard/cared about this. (Maybe after Hotel Rwanda, people did.) We let all these shit happen, but we do nothing although the US and the rest of the world think they are at peace. Why didn't they stop THIS genocide from happening? What makes this different from other genocides?

After I watched Hotel Rwanda it really hit me.. the slaughtering of women and children was just sickening. The mass graves.. it was between the Hutu's and Tutsi's am I right?

Yup, it's sad what's going on in Africa. We really need to direct some more attention to what's happening in Africa but what can you do? You can't just send money over there and you can't just send troops down there with no real mission. You'd have to take over countries and rebuild them which would cost triple the amount of the War in Iraq.

But you are right, Africa needs more attention and America and the world are really ignoring it. One of the things I disagree with Bush on.

I remember when this happened. I was only 8 years old, but it was shocking at the time. I remember seeing footage of the genocide, and it stunned me. The Rwandan genocide changed the way my young mind thought. It made me extremely compassionate for the less fortunate people.

I have never heard about this, I read most of that 100 day thing but i didnt really get he jist of it, anyone care to take the time and explain it briefly?

It was a really good movie, but it's a movie I can't watch again. Sad, and it just makes me curious to know if Riot have seen this movie.

Yeah, I probably should have but I was too busy playing Sim City 3000.

Yeah, it was a very powerful movie and honestly? It sucks monkey balls. I wish we could have done something to stop it. You guys know I don't like evil and I want the whole world to be free and have justice. It really does eat me up when I see people getting killed, opressed, tortured, ect and we don't do shit about it.

But at the same time, I think the middle east is a bigger issue to US than Africa is. And it's unforunate that we don't have the resources to fight every bad guy. It pisses me off that we can't help everyone that needs it. But you gotta start somwhere, right? And the middle east is our main concern right now because of 9/11 and all the terrorist cells and recruiting/training that goes on in there.

But yeah, it was a powerful movie.

I think most people don't know about it, and if it weren't for the movie, then probably it would be exponentially less. It's just sad...I don't think we even heard it on the news because people were probably busy covering other news. Probably some celebrity scandal or something else "newsworthy". No, after all that's happened, you cannot say that US went into Iraq to rid the world of all the terrorist activities going on in there. You didn't find the weapons you were looking for. You CAN say that you went in there to free the people of Iraq of Saddam's rule, but as far as I know, there is not a substantiated amount of evidence to support the fact that there was sufficient terrorist activities going on to threaten the rest of the world. In fact, do you guys even feel safer now that the US is in Iraq? I sure as hell don't.

It saddens me to see all the money wasted that went towards the efforts in Iraq, while an entire nation like Africa is on their knees. Especially with what is going on now with Darfur, is that genocide not enough of a cry for help?

Has anyone seen that new show "The Grid" ? It's all about Anti-Terrorism agencies around teh world and how the countries cooperate with eachother to find terrorists.. its insane.. cuz it shows the lives of the terrorists too.. verrrry interesting show.. i only got to watch a few minutes of it since i had dinner plans but wanna watch it next week.. its on Showcase (Canada) and probably HBO in the states.. wednesday at 10 ET I think.

The genocide was a mistake on the UN's part. It's ridiculous to blame the United States though there refusal to look at the situation as a "genocide" severely slowed down the process in giving aid.

I did Model United Nations during the spring last year, representing France in the Historical Security Council. We went back to 1994, dealing with the genocide in Rwanda, so just by doing research in preparation for the conference, I gained a lot of information on how much the UN really fucked up.

For anyone with the time, THIS is certainly a good read in getting a good understanding of what really happened that year.

Oh, and lets save the Iraq talk for an actual topic concerning it.

That's true.. you can see it in the movie.. how Nick Nolte's character was a UN seargent and how they couldnt help out the civilians at all.. they couldnt even provide that much security. The UN wasnt allowed to use their weapons unless they were being shot at.
