A criminal, or a hero? I give him huge props for what he did... but apparently some people think otherwise.

Hero, dude saved 100 people with an abandoned bus. If he stole one planned for a legal trip that woulda been different, but what else would the bus have been used for? A coral reef? He did a great thing.

Now if he was white, it would read: "Thousands of refugees of Hurricane Katrina were transported to the Astrodome in Houston this week. In an extreme act of searching, one group actually found a bus to escape ravaged areas in Louisiana."

Well he's a hero in my eyes too, that's not right to do that to him. It's nice to see someone actually taking initiative to do something rather than wave cardboard signs and scream help.

Edit: The kid's 18 too!!!! Good gosh, cut the cat some slack. How many 18 year olds have the guts to step out like that and drive a BUS 7-hours into Texas, and he actually beat alot of other refugees scheduled to be there before him.

No doubt, preach on Ruff. He is most definitely a hero because just to think it could've been a 100 people killed instead of a 100 people alive right now. I mean for this to be his first time driving a bus made it dangerous, but he ensured them of their safety. He should get a reward of some sort one all of this is over, but since he's black he will probably be on house arrest

His acts were heroic, he should only be praised instead of being questioned. (Y)

OMFG, he saved 100 lives and people didn't want them to be safe (N)
His acts were heroic

"I dont care if I get blamed for it ," Gibson said, "as long as I saved my people."

I don't think there's any way you can't call this guy a hero.

Sun Sep 04, 2005 11:22 am

Wow, it's Jesus.

Sun Sep 04, 2005 11:45 am

Definetly a hero. He saved a 100 people, this shouldn't be debated.
Props to the guy (Y)

I saw the interview with the kid, he is a hero. He said there were about 80 people on the bus though. (Y)

Sun Sep 04, 2005 12:22 pm

sometimes someone has to bend the rules in order to do the right thing....definitely a hero (Y)

Sun Sep 04, 2005 12:45 pm

I have to agree with everyone who says his a hero, cos he is definitely a hero in my eyes. 18 year old who's never driven a bus before, i'm scared of buses

That's pretty amazing. Miracles happen I guess, that's truely amazing.

Sun Sep 04, 2005 2:07 pm

Thats amazing, but not heroic. Any1 who can drive can steal that bus and drive it there!

Sun Sep 04, 2005 2:11 pm

That is amazing . He's a hero like everyone said. sad to see the people in Houston don't think that way.

Sun Sep 04, 2005 2:12 pm

Hero, theres should be no argument. But all the black and white stuff that has come out of the aftermath of Katrina has really exposed america as the Everyone is treated the same home land.

Sun Sep 04, 2005 4:14 pm

I think the old adage of "desperate times call for desperate measures" applies here. As Colin already said, the fact the bus was abandoned means that he didn't save those people at the expense of others. Perhaps he didn't do the "right" thing as far as the law is concerned, but in terms of humanity he did a very noble thing. I think this is a situation where the end justifies the means.

Sun Sep 04, 2005 5:34 pm

I don't think he's a hero, but he's definitely the smartest person out of the lot. For him to take the initiative and think of something like that is fantastic (Y) it's alot better than staying in the area, looting stores and shooting at people.

Sun Sep 04, 2005 6:20 pm

Very noble. Heroic? not really. He did also save his ass which was probably his initial motive. Smart move though (Y)

Sun Sep 04, 2005 11:55 pm

That was good job. :D The bus was just lying there.
