Letter to the President

Dear Mr. Bush:

Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.

Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with?

Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her!

I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike?

And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ!

On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that.

There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland.

No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!

You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit.

Yours,

Michael Moore

P.S. That annoying mother, Cindy Sheehan, is no longer at your ranch. She and dozens of other relatives of the Iraqi War dead are now driving across the country, stopping in many cities along the way. Maybe you can catch up with them before they get to DC on September 21st.

You Bush supports cant be serious...........yall cant see whats right in front of your eyes. Yeah, Michael Moore can be a lil extra with his sh*t, but has ANY of the facts hes put out there about your president been a lie? Keep believing in this guy.........and Santa Claus, and the Tooth Fairy, and Elvis is Alive too. :?

*Cue Bush defending from next post onwards*

Of course people will just bash Michael Moore, although personally I'd rather they disprove what he says instead but you know, it's a bit much to expect.

Sat Sep 03, 2005 10:46 pm

gotta love Moore's sarcasm though. He makes very good points.

Agree with Matt there . I never liked Bush , but I never have been old enough to vote . Next election , I'm voting.

Sun Sep 04, 2005 2:24 am

Aha! Michael Moore, I knew more about Bush from his book.. :o
First I thought Bush was just a nice president... But.... :x

Sun Sep 04, 2005 3:17 am

The evacuation of the city had nothing to do with President Bush. It had to do with the local government and the FEMA.

As for cutting the budget of the Corps of Engineers, they would have needed billions and the levees wouldn't have been built until 2009 (best case senario). Clinton actually STARTED THE CUTTING OF THE CORPS IN NEW ORLEANS in 1998 and Bush just continued it.

Once again, let's blame Bush for everything. He was at a party, so what? What the fuck were you doing?

Sun Sep 04, 2005 3:27 am

He's the president of the country, he should have a little bit more responsibility in going to the place of the disaster, don't you think?

A week ago, in some parts of Santiago we got massive amounts of rain, and a lot of the poorer homes flooded and there were a lot of people loosing their houses. The president went there and even helped out. If the president of a small country like Chile can do it, why can't Bush?

Sun Sep 04, 2005 3:32 am

lmfao, you want Bush to go in there and dig through the rubble and look for bodies and stuff? I'm sorry, but NO PRESIDENT would have done that. And I'm pretty sure his secret service wouldn't allow him to either.

Sun Sep 04, 2005 3:37 am

Whats so harmful about digging through rubble , hes gonna be surrounded by like 10 guys anyways.

Sun Sep 04, 2005 3:38 am

The fact that A. He might get in the way of the rescue crews, B. He is only there to offer moral support that's all the President does and C. it's not his job.

As sad as it is, not even the almighty Clinton would have helped.

Sun Sep 04, 2005 3:40 am

Riot , how old are you , it seems like you know alot about politics.

Sun Sep 04, 2005 3:55 am

His job is to lead the country, not look after his own interest by attending a get-together (especially just after it happened).
And what's so bad about going down there to show that he cares? Evidently he cares more about a get-together with his friends.

Also I doubt that he'd get in the way of rescue-workers, considering that there were not quite as many as it should have been for some odd reason.

Yet, he was able to at least take the time to visit New York City after 9/11? It kinda makes it funny how you defend him going to a party.

Sun Sep 04, 2005 6:08 am

He went to 9/11 2 days after 9/11 when the fires were mostly put out and it was all rubble. This is a completely different monster. The flooding, the chaos, the fires. Hell, he can't go in there and start cleaning up because even the rescue crews aren't cleaning up yet. We're still in a search and rescue and get everyone out mood. There is nothing Bush could have done to help them do that.

Bush went down there yesterday, met with some familes and surveyed the damage. That's all he really can do at this moment. He can't fly in a helicopter and take place in rescue missions and save thousands of people everyday by himself.

Sun Sep 04, 2005 6:21 am

I'm not expecting him to be a superhero, but to maybe just go down there ... and meet with families and hmm, let's say, survey the damage too?

Glad it took him 5 days to meet with families and survey the damage (y) That's about how long I expected, after seeing his reaction time when 9/11 took place ;)

Sun Sep 04, 2005 6:23 am

Everyone shutup.. you're all wrong. I am right. [/spam]

Sun Sep 04, 2005 6:25 am

If Bush would have gone down there before the supplies, food, and most of the rescue crews were they he would have gotten shot and raped.

I'd put him on the first plane down there then.

 I'm sure you aren't alone.

Very typical of a Michael Moore piece, should have known who wrote it before I even saw the name. Like much of his work, it raises a few valid points but I just don't like the way Moore presents some of his arguments. Often he acts like the voice of reason yet comes off as the opposite extreme, he does manipulate the truth to suit him and he doesn't respond well to anyone challenging his point of view, no matter how fairly or intellectually. He's just too self-righteous most of the time for my liking.

Everytime Andrew posts I gotta take out a dictionary and thesaurus.

If you needed a dictionary for that post you're about as thick as wisdom_kid  the biggest word was "intellectually"
