TOO MUCH KOBE FOR THE KNICKS

Kenny Smith said before the game: "I think that the key of this game is how able is going to be Jamal Crawford on containing Kobe". The game showed that not so much. Kobe poured in 46 points, including 19 in the first quarter, leading the Lakers to a 93-83 victory.
The Lakers used a strong start for building a 13-point first quarter lead. Quentin Richardson was called for 2 fouls in the first minute of the match, so Jerome Williams played unexpected minutes at the start of the game. Caron Butler (guarded by Williams) added 10 more points in the first. The score was 33-20 for the Lakers after 12 minutes. In the second quarter the story was nearly the same: Kobe scoring a lot and the Knicks trailing by more than 10. New York only had consistent play on Marbury and Mike Sweetney off the bench. At the half, Kobe had 31 and the Lakers led by 11, 51-40. The Knicks react in the 3rd period. Jamal Crawford scored 10 points and Mo´ Taylor added 8 more. New York also played good defense and started to run, which allow them fast-break points. Knicks cut the deficit to 5, 69-64 with one more quarter to play. In the fourth, Kobe scored 9 more in his way to 46 and Marbury was unable to direct correctly his teammates, comitting several turnovers and not assisting. He scored 22 but dished out only 3 assists. New York tried to play with Crawford as the point, but Allan Houston didn´t play well as SG. He was 2-10 FG and managed just 4 points. Another key of the game was the free throw percentage. The Knicks scored only 50% of their attempts on a 8 of 16 series. The Lakers controlled completely the game in the fourth and leaded by as many as 14 points.

KNICKS OFFENSE COLLAPSE, PACERS TAKE MSG WIN

The Indiana Pacers used his trademark defense for allowing the Knicks score only 71 points, in a 84-71 victory. New York was unable to found ways to easily score and were forced most of the times to spend nearly the entire 24-second possession. The true key of the game was the horrible effort from the Knicks´ starting backcourt. Jamal Crawford scored only 8 points and was limited to take only 8 shots and Stephon Marbury was excellently defended by Jamaal Tinsley. Marbury finished with 8 points and an awful 4/18 FG. "It´s so frustrating man. You know, it´s one of those days in which you cannot do anythin´ right. We have to bounce back from this loss and execute much better the plays down the stretch. We´re not playing good basketball".
Indiana built an early lead that capped on a long 2-point jumper by Reggie Miller at the end of the 1st quarter. 21-11 Pacers. In the 2nd quarter the Knicks come back to the game, thanks to great minutes of the bench from Penny Hardaway, who scored 9 points and get his teammates involved in the offensive end. This allow the Knicks to cut the deficit. At the half the Pacers lead by 3, 40-37. But in the 3rd Indiana again played strong defense and held the Knicks to 16 points. Jamaal Tinsley hit back-to-back 3 pointers for opening a 10-point lead at the end of the period, 63-53. Two consecutive treys at the beginning of 4th (Crawford and Richardson) cut the deficit to just 4 points, 63-59, but Jermaine O´Neal led the Pacers offense scoring the next 10 points of his team and opened an 11-point rent, 73-62. Pacers hold this margin until the end of the game.

KNICKS GET MUCH-NEEDED WIN IN SALT LAKE CITY

The New York Knicks won their second game of the season against the Jazz yesterday. The Knicks used a big fourth quarter effort for returning home with a much-needed victory. "We wanted this badly, and we got it now. It has been a hard teamwork"- said Marbury. The Knicks started behind in the scoreboard, 26-22 at the end of the first. Keith McLeod scored 11 points. In the 2nd quarter Raja Bell stepped up offensively for 14 points at the half. The Jazz led by 7, 53-46. But Quentin Richardson and Marbury exploded in the second half. Richardson scored 15 of his 18 points in the 2nd half and Marbury dished 8 of his 10 assists. At the end of the 3rd the score was tied at 65. In the 4th the Knicks got unexpected help. Allan Houston, who was shooting a horrible 27% this season, scored 9 points off the bench on 4/4 FG.
Michael Sweetney scored two huge baskets down the stretch in the final minutes and some good defense by N.Y. allow them to win this game.

Q-RICH BRINGS TO GARDEN FIRST HOME VICTORY

Quentin Richardson played another terrific game. Despite a 69-point combo between Webber and Iverson, New York was able to notch its first home victory of the season. Crawford and Marbury played solid games, but the decisive factor was Q-Rich, who knocked down shot after shot in the 4th and then went for the two winning free throws.
During the first two quarters C-Webb guided the Sixers to a 4-point halftime lead, 50-46. Webber had 20-5-3 at the half. But the Knicks bounced back scoring 34 points in the 3rd quarter under the leadership of Marbury, who played a solid game and had 19 points and 8 assists. The Knicks entered the 4th with a 78-74 lead and never trailed in the quarter, but the Sixers tied the score several times in the final minutes. After a timeout, Allen Iverson scored all of his team points in an 8-0 run that made a 101-99 with less than 1:30 to go. Richardson scored a long jumper and Webber went for the monster jam at the other side. Jamal Crawford missed the layup, but Ilgauskas slammed down the miss. Iguodala and Korver scored on 76ers next two possessions for the tie at 105 with 15 seconds remaining. Marbury looked for the opened Richardson, who faked a jump shot and dribbled past Korver. He was fouled in his way to the basket by Dalembert and converted both free throws with 6.2 to play. Iverson jumper didn´t go in and Ilgauskas grabbed the rebound as time expired.
