2in1™: Irreversible (movie) and Opera 8 (web browser)

Wed Aug 31, 2005 1:16 am

Instead of making two separate threads, I'm using the patented 2in1™ technology to make a single cutting edge post that incorporates two threads in an efficient and resource-saving manner. Expect stocks to rise for the 2in1™ brand.

Irreversible

Oh. My. God. Has anyone seen this movie? I refuse to give out details of the movie because the scenes are shown in backward sequences (like Memento, btw, which you should also see), but I can tell you it's very disturbing. Requiem for a Dream was pretty disturbing, but my God, this one is like five to ten times worse. Extreme graphic violence and nudity, that's for sure. And Monica Bellucci is so fucking hot  But shit, that movie was disturbing.

Edit: The acting was terrific. A lot of these scenes weren't cut and they were continuous, so it's amazing how these actors pulled off their lines and acting for 10+ minutes without screwing up... especially in certain scenes.

Opera 8

I love FireFox, but I heard about Opera 8 and I wanted to give it a try, and I love that too! It's faster than FireFox and the fact you can change skins is really cool. I seem more comfortable with FireFox, but I love how fast Opera 8 is. Has anyone tried it out? It claims to be the fastest web browser on the internet, and I agree. I'm going to try to get used to it, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to bring up "text" history, like when I enter a keyword on Google and I want to reuse it, I can double click on the text field in FireFox and it'll give me a list, but I can't figure out how to do it on Opera.

Anyway, there's a bunch of subtle features that Opera has, and it's really sweet. For example, when typing somethig in the web address field, (i.e. www.blahblahblah.com), I can type in, "g Handwarmers" where the "g" represents a Google search. There's other letter shortcuts and they're all modifiable.

About Irreversible, that was by far one of the most shocking movies I've seen. I've seen a lot of gore and violent shit, but as far as this movie goes... never.

The face-bashing scene, wow... I just don't have words for that, I sat there like for 10 minutes after the movie , it was just crazy. The other scene, not minding the content, was brilliantly acted, wasn't it?

This movie just slaps you in the face, if you haven't seen it, rent it. (Y)

About Opera, I have nothing to say. I'm sticking to IE6. 8-)

Same here. You know all those corny horror movies that has a bunch of gore and stuff, it didn't have any impact on me, but in this movie, wow, the impact is mind numbing.

I thought the reverse sequence was well done, as it relates to what that fat guy said in the beginning, "time destroys everything" and how the ending (or beginning if you want to go by chronological order) is a sensationalist paradise that we always see in movies. This is realism at its worst.

It looked so realistic how that was done. I wonder how that scene was done since there weren't any cut scenes (from what I noticed).

As for the other scene, not minding the content, that was brilliantly done, considering it was done in 10 minutes straight.

Monica Belluci is hot. Yes, I know it was a completely useless post, but somebody had to say it.

Oh. You're right. Well, it doesn't hurt saying it one more time. I mean, she IS hot.

I gotta agree with VanK, I wouldn't hearing it one more time

I'm a FireFoxer, and you can change skins inte Firefox aswell. :)

But yeah, the speed impresses me, but the unstability doesn't. I'm going with Firefox until Opera beats it (never).

Wed Aug 31, 2005 4:20 am

I haven't seen any unstability issues.. which ones have you encountered?

When I get home, I'm gonna change some skins, yay!!

I did not notice any cuts either, it's impressive.
If you look closely, the most astonishing feature (of course) is the man's face. When the guy is halfway to the end of beating him, look at the poor guy's jaw, it moves in a very sickly way.

What a horrendous, yet sublime detail.

I didn't see that part, but I'm definitely going to watch that movie again, with Legend this time. I did notice that his hand was still twitching/moving even after the whole scene. I don't know if it was computer generated or whatever, or how it was done, but that scene was just

Wed Aug 31, 2005 6:17 am

Shit Monica Belucci is fuckin hot.. the whole time I thought Cy was talkin about the bitch in the matrix that falls in love with Neo.. man I'm off to get my vaseline.

Firefox>all.

It's really not a contest either.

i had just seen irreversible over the weekend. definitely very graphic. yeesh to that face bashing scene. just kept on going and going

it sort of reminds of the last 15 minutes of "audition".

Wed Aug 31, 2005 8:39 am

Is "Audition" a strange asian film, a pretty disturbing one?
I haven't heard much about it, what is it about? :?:

Wed Aug 31, 2005 8:48 am

you could say it's distrubing...

http://imdb.com/title/tt0295867/

some say the movie drags a little bit but i think the pace contributes to the buildup towards the last 15 minutes of the movie

Wed Aug 31, 2005 8:53 am

firefox kinda takes longer to load images than ie6 which i still use :|
